Chapter 139 · The attendants' release · Verses 1–

Seeing the sage go on his way free of delusion and glad, Hara's attendants came to Nārada in great fear and caught his feet. 'Rishi, we are not brahmins, we are Śiva's attendants. We did great wrong and have got our reward. Be kind and lift the curse.' Nārada, who is kind to the poor, said, 'Go and become demons. You will have great wealth, glory and strength. When you have won the world by the strength of your arms, Viṣṇu will take a human form. You will die in battle at Hari's hand, and be freed, and not be born again.' The two bowed to the sage's feet and left; in time they became demons. For this reason, in one age, the Lord took a human birth, to please the gods and give joy to the good and to lift the burden of the earth.
