Chapter 135·The garland goes to the Lord·Verses 1–
The princess would not even look in the direction where Nārada sat, swollen with pride. Again and again the sage fidgeted and fretted, and Śiva's attendants smiled at the sight. The merciful Lord came in the form of a king, and the princess gladly put the garland round his neck. He took his bride off to Lakṣmī's home, and all the kings were left in despair. The sage was in great distress, his mind lost, as if the jewel had slipped from the knot. Then Śiva's attendants said with a smile, 'Go and see your own face in a mirror.' Saying this they ran off in great fear. The sage looked in water and saw his face. Seeing his form, anger rose in him and he gave them a heavy curse: 'Go, you sinful tricksters, become demons. You laughed at me; take the fruit. Do not laugh at a sage again.'
