जलंधर और वृंदा
Though the Lord killed them, those two were not freed, because the brahmin's word held for three births. Once, out of love for them, the Lord took a body as Rāma to Daśaratha and Kausalyā, and in another age as the child of Kaśyapa and Aditi; so his holy deeds purified the world. In another age the gods, beaten by the demon Jalandhara, found that even Śiva could not kill him, because his wife's great virtue protected him. The Lord broke her vow by trickery and did the gods' work. When she understood, she cursed him in anger.प्रभु के हाथों मारे जाने पर भी वे दोनों मुक्त नहीं हुए, क्योंकि ब्राह्मण का वचन तीन जन्मों तक मान्य रहना था। एक बार प्रभु ने भक्त के प्रेम में उन्हीं के हित के लिए शरीर धरा, जिसमें कश्यप और अदिति पिता-माता थे, और दशरथ और कौसल्या भी विख्यात हुए; इस प्रकार एक कल्प में अवतार लेकर उन्होंने पवित्र चरित से संसार को पवित्र किया। एक और कल्प में देवता जलंधर से युद्ध में हार गए, और शिव का अपार युद्ध भी उस महाबली दानव को नहीं मार सका, क्योंकि उसकी पत्नी परम सती थी। प्रभु ने छल से उसका व्रत तोड़कर देवताओं का काम किया। जब उसने यह भेद जाना, तब क्रोध करके श्राप दे दिया।

वहाँ कश्यप और अदिति पिता-माता थे, जो आगे दशरथ और कौसल्या के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुए। एक कल्प में इस प्रकार अवतार हुआ और उनके पवित्र चरितों ने संसार को पवित्र किया।
