The Lord's birth has many causes, each stranger than the last. Śiva tells one or two. Jaya and Vijaya, the two dear doorkeepers of Hari, were cursed by brahmins and took demon bodies as two brothers, Hiraṇyakaśipu and Hiraṇyākṣa, who humbled even Indra. One was killed by the Lord as a boar and the other by Narasiṁha, who spread the fame of his devotee Prahlāda.
