Śambhu comforted his mother-in-law in many ways, and she bowed at his feet and went home. Then the mother called Umā, took her on her lap and gave her good advice: always worship Śaṅkara's feet, for a woman's duty is her husband, her only god. As she spoke her eyes filled with water, and she held her daughter to her heart again. The Maker made women in the world; the dependent do not find joy even in dreams. Mother was overcome with love, but steadied herself, thinking of the wrong time. Again and again she meets and falls at her feet; their love cannot be told. Bhavānī embraced all the women and went to her mother, clung to her breast. After meeting her mother again, she went; all gave fitting blessings, and, looking back at her mother again and again, her friends took her to Śiva. Satisfying the beggars, Śaṅkara went home with Umā; all the gods were glad, flowers rained and drums sounded well. Himālaya went along with great love to see them off; with many kinds of comfort, he sent the bull-bannered Lord away.
