विवाह-संस्कार और दहेज
The great sages carried out all the marriage rites as the Veda describes. The lord of mountains took the kuśa grass and water, and, knowing her to be Bhavānī, gave his daughter to Bhava. When Maheśa took her hand, the gods were glad in their hearts; the sages recited Vedic mantras and the gods cried victory, victory, to Śaṅkara. Many kinds of instruments sounded, flowers rained from the sky in many ways, and the marriage of Hara and Girijā filled all the worlds with joy. Maids and servants, horses, chariots, elephants, cows, clothes, jewels and all kinds of things, grain and golden vessels in carts: the dowry was beyond telling. After many kinds of dowry, Himālaya folded his hands and said: what can I give you, who are complete in every wish? Holding the lotus feet of Śaṅkara he stood. Śiva, ocean of mercy, satisfied his father-in-law in every way; then Mainā, her heart brimful of love, held his lotus feet: Lord, think of Umā as dear to your mind and life as your own, make her your house's maid, forgive all her faults, and be pleased to grant me this boon.महामुनियों ने वेद की गाई विधि से सब विवाह-संस्कार करवाए। गिरिराज ने कुश और जल हाथ में लेकर कन्या को भवानी जानकर भव को समर्पित किया। महेश ने पाणिग्रहण किया तो देवता हर्षित हुए, मुनि वेद-मंत्र पढ़ने लगे और देवता शंकर की जय बोले। अनेक बाजे बजे, आकाश से फूल बरसे और शिव-गिरिजा के विवाह से सब लोकों में उत्सव छा गया। दासियाँ, दास, घोड़े, रथ, हाथी, गायें, वस्त्र, मणियाँ, अन्न और सोने के पात्र गाड़ियों में भरकर दिए गए; दहेज का वर्णन नहीं हो सकता। फिर हिमालय ने हाथ जोड़कर कहा कि हे पूर्णकाम शंकर, मैं क्या दूँ? और चरण पकड़ लिए। कृपासागर शिव ने ससुर को सब प्रकार संतुष्ट किया। तब मैना ने भी चरण पकड़कर कहा कि उमा को अपने प्राणों के समान प्यारी जानिए, घर की दासी बनाइए, उसके सब अपराध क्षमा कीजिए और मुझे यह वर दीजिए।

जब महेश ने पाणिग्रहण किया तो सब देवेश्वर हृदय में हर्षित हुए। श्रेष्ठ मुनि वेद-मंत्र उच्चारण करने लगे और देवता 'शंकर की जय हो, जय हो, जय हो' कहने लगे।
When Maheśa took her hand in marriage, all the lords of the gods were glad in their hearts. The great sages recited Vedic mantras, and the gods cried, 'Victory, victory, victory, Śaṅkara!'

अनेक प्रकार के बाजे बजे और आकाश से अनेक प्रकार के फूलों की वर्षा हुई। शिव और पार्वती का विवाह सम्पन्न हुआ और सब लोकों में उत्सव छा गया।
Many kinds of instruments sounded, and flowers rained from the sky in many ways. The marriage of Hara and Girijā was done, and joy filled all the worlds.

दासियाँ, दास, घोड़े, रथ, हाथी, गायें, वस्त्र, मणियाँ और अनेक वस्तुएँ, अन्न तथा सोने के पात्र गाड़ियों में भरकर दिए गए; उस दहेज का वर्णन नहीं हो सकता।
Maids and servants, horses, chariots, elephants, cows, clothes, jewels and things of every kind, grain and golden vessels filling the carts: the dowry given cannot be described.

बहुत प्रकार से दहेज देकर हिमालय ने हाथ जोड़कर कहा, 'हे पूर्णकाम शंकर, मैं आपको क्या दूँ?' और शंकर के चरण-कमल पकड़कर खड़े रहे। कृपा के सागर शिव ने ससुर को सब प्रकार से संतुष्ट किया। फिर प्रेम से भरे हृदय वाली मैना ने भी उनके चरण-कमल पकड़ लिए।
After giving the dowry in many ways, the mountain folded his hands and said, 'What can I give you, who are complete in every desire?' and held the lotus feet of Śaṅkara. Śiva, the ocean of mercy, satisfied his father-in-law in every way. Then Mainā, her heart full of love, held his lotus feet too.

दोहा १०१दोहा 101नाथ उमा मन प्रान सम गृहकिंकरी करेहु।छमेहु सकल अपराध अब होइ प्रसन्न बरु देहु ॥ १०१ ॥
