Chapter 257·The sage lost in Bharata's love·Verses 1–
Hearing Bharata's words and seeing his love, the sage and the whole assembly forget their bodies. Bharata's great glory is an ocean, and the sage's mind stands at its shore like a helpless woman. She wants to cross, searches her heart for a way, but finds no boat or ferry. Who else will praise Bharata? Can a pond or an oyster shell hold the sea? The sage is pleased with Bharata in his heart, and with the company they come to Rāma. The Lord bows and gives them good seats, and all sit at the sage's word. The great sage speaks thoughtfully, suited to place, time and occasion: 'Listen, Rāma, all-knowing and wise, treasure of dharma, policy, virtue and knowledge. You live in every heart and know good and bad feeling; say what will be best for the townspeople, the mothers and Bharata.'
