Vasiṣṭha says: 'Dear one, by Rāma's grace what you say is true; without Rāma there is no success even in a dream. I hesitate to say one thing: the wise give up half when all is about to be lost. You two brothers go to the forest, and let Lakṣmaṇa, Sītā and Raghurāī be turned back.' Hearing the good words both brothers are glad, every limb full of joy. Their minds are content and their bodies shine, as if Rāma had become king in their hearts. For the people it is much gain and little loss, though the queens weep with grief and joy equal. Bharata says that doing what the sage has said gives the world's creatures the fruit they desire. 'I will live in the forest all my life; I want no greater comfort than this. Rāma and Sītā know all hearts, and you are all-knowing and wise; if you speak truly, Lord, make your own word hold.'
