Chapter 247·Rāma hears of his father's death·Verses 1–दोहा 247
भोरु भएँ रघुनंदनहि
Sītā and all the queens are distraught with love, and the wise teacher asks them all to sit. He speaks of the world's course as illusion and tells some tales of the highest truth. Then he tells Rāma of the king's going to heaven, and Rāma feels unbearable grief. Thinking that love for him was the cause of his father's death, the steady Rāma is greatly shaken. Hearing the hard words, bitter as thunder, Lakṣmaṇa, Sītā and all the queens weep, and the whole company is overcome with sorrow, as if the king had died only that day. The sage consoles Rāma, and with the company he bathes in the lovely river. The Lord keeps a waterless fast that day, and though the sage urges him, no one takes even water. At dawn, whatever the sage commands Raghunandana, he does with faith and devotion and respect.सीता और सब रानियाँ स्नेह से व्याकुल थीं; ज्ञानी गुरु ने सबको बैठने को कहा। मुनिनाथ ने संसार की गति को मायिक बताया और परमार्थ की कुछ कथा कही। उन्होंने राजा के स्वर्ग जाने की बात सुनाई, जिसे सुनकर रघुनाथ को असह्य दुःख हुआ। पिता के मरण का कारण अपना स्नेह समझकर धैर्य की धुरी धारण करने वाले राम बहुत व्याकुल हुए। वज्र जैसी कठोर कड़वी बात सुनकर लक्ष्मण, सीता और सब रानियाँ विलाप करने लगीं। सारा समाज शोक से अत्यन्त व्याकुल हो गया, मानो आज ही राजा की मृत्यु हुई हो। फिर मुनिश्रेष्ठ ने राम को समझाया और सबने समाज सहित सुन्दर नदी में स्नान किया। प्रभु ने उस दिन निर्जल व्रत रखा; मुनि के कहने पर भी किसी ने जल नहीं लिया। सवेरा होने पर मुनि ने रघुनन्दन को जो आज्ञा दी, प्रभु ने श्रद्धा और भक्ति सहित आदर से वह सब किया।

उन्होंने राजा के स्वर्ग जाने की बात सुनाई, जिसे सुनकर रघुनाथ को असह्य दुःख हुआ। पिता के मरण का कारण अपना स्नेह विचारकर धैर्य की धुरी धारण करने वाले राम बहुत व्याकुल हुए।
He told of the king's going to heaven, and hearing it Raghunātha felt unbearable grief. Thinking that his own love was the cause of his father's death, Rāma, the bearer of steadiness, was greatly shaken.

३3कुलिस कठोर सुनत कटु बानी। बिलपत लखन सीय सब रानी ॥सोक बिकल अति सकल समाजू। मानहुँ राजु अकाजेउ आजू ॥

Hearing the bitter words, hard as thunder, Lakṣmaṇa, Sītā and all the queens wept. The whole company was overcome with sorrow, as if the king had died only that day.

४4मुनिबर बहुरि राम समुझाए। सहित समाज सुसरित नहाए ॥ब्रतु निरंबु तेहि दिन प्रभु कीन्हा। मुनिहु कहें जलु काहुँ न लीन्हा ॥

फिर मुनिश्रेष्ठ ने राम को समझाया और समाज सहित सबने सुन्दर नदी में स्नान किया। प्रभु ने उस दिन निर्जल व्रत रखा; मुनि के कहने पर भी किसी ने जल नहीं लिया।
Then the great sage consoled Rāma, and with the company they bathed in the lovely river. The Lord kept a waterless fast that day; though the sage urged them, no one took even water.

दोहा २४७दोहा 247भोरु भएँ रघुनंदनहि जो मुनि आयसु दीन्ह।श्रद्धा भगति समेत प्रभु सो सबु सादरु कीन्ह ॥ २४७ ॥

सवेरा होने पर मुनि ने रघुनन्दन को जो आज्ञा दी, प्रभु ने श्रद्धा और भक्ति सहित वह सब आदर से किया।
At dawn, whatever the sage commanded Raghunandana, the Lord did all of it with faith, devotion and respect.
