Lakṣmaṇa rises, folds his hands and asks for leave, as if the heroic mood had woken from sleep. He binds up his hair, ties the quiver at his waist and takes bow and arrow in hand. He says that today he will earn the name of Rāma's servant and teach Bharata in battle. For insulting Rāma, let both brothers sleep on a bed of war. The whole company has come together well, and today he will show the anger he has held back. As a lion crushes a herd of elephants or a hawk seizes a quail, he will cut down Bharata with his army and brother. Even if Śaṅkara comes to help, he will kill him in battle, by Rāma's oath. Seeing Lakṣmaṇa so angry and hearing his oath, the people are afraid and the guardians of the worlds want to flee in panic.लक्ष्मण उठकर हाथ जोड़कर आज्ञा माँगते हैं, मानो वीर रस सोते से जाग उठा हो। उन्होंने सिर पर जटा बाँधी, कमर में तरकश कसा और हाथ में धनुष-बाण सजा लिए। वे कहते हैं कि आज मैं राम के सेवक का यश लूँगा और भरत को रण में सिखावन दूँगा। राम के निरादर का फल पाकर दोनों भाई रण की शय्या पर सोएँ। सारा समाज अच्छा आ बना है; मैं पिछला रोष आज प्रकट करूँगा। जैसे सिंह हाथियों के झुंड को कुचलता है और बाज लवे को लपेट लेता है, वैसे ही भरत को सेना और भाई सहित अनादर से रण में गिरा दूँगा। यदि शंकर आकर सहायता करें तो भी राम की दुहाई, मैं उन्हें रण में मार दूँगा। लक्ष्मण को अत्यन्त क्रोध में देखकर और उनकी पक्की शपथ सुनकर सब लोक भयभीत हुए और लोकपाल घबराकर भागना चाहने लगे।
