Chapter 216·Bharata sets out for Citrakūṭa·Verses 1–
Bharata bathes at Prayāga, bows to the sage with his company, takes the sage's command and blessing on his head, and sets out for Citrakūṭa with those who know the roads. Guha walks beside him, holding his hand, and Bharata looks like love itself walking in a body. He has no shoes and no shade, keeping his vow of love without pretence. He asks his friend about Lakṣmaṇa, Rāma and Sītā's journey, and Guha tells it gently. Seeing the trees where Rāma stayed, Bharata cannot hold back his love. The gods rain flowers and the earth turns soft and the road a source of blessing. Clouds shade him and a cool breeze blows, better than the road was for Rāma.

Seeing the trees where Rāma had stayed, the love in his heart could not be held back. Seeing his state, the gods rained flowers, and the earth became soft and the road a root of blessing.

Clouds made shade as he went, a cool pleasant breeze blew; the road was not as kind to Rāma as it was to Bharata going.
