Chapter 217·Indra fears the meeting·Verses 1–
Every living thing along the road, moving or still, that the Lord had looked at or that had seen him became fit for the highest state, and the sight of Bharata cured the disease of rebirth. That is no great thing for Bharata; even those who say Rāma's name once become able to cross and carry others across. Bharata is dear to Rāma and is his younger brother, so how could the road not be a giver of blessing? Siddhas and sages say so, and are glad on seeing him. Seeing his power, Indra is troubled: the world is good to the good and base to the base. He says to his teacher that something must be done so that Rāma and Bharata do not meet. Rāma is shy and bound by love; Bharata is an ocean of love; the work in hand may be spoiled, so a trick must be found.
