Chapter 169·Kausalyā's trust in Bharata·Verses 1–
Kausalyā tells Bharata that Rāma's life is dearer than life to him and that Bharata is dearer than life to Rāma. She says the moon may drip poison, frost may burn, water creatures may turn from water and delusion may stay even after knowledge, but Bharata can never be against Rāma. Whoever holds the view that the world accuses him of will not gain happiness or a good end even in a dream. Saying this, she holds Bharata to her heart, milk flows from her breasts and her eyes fill. They lament so long that the whole night passes sitting. Then Vāmadeva and Vasiṣṭha come, and call the ministers and all the great men. The sage teaches Bharata in many ways with good words on the highest truth. In the dohā he tells Bharata to take heart and do what is needed today, and Bharata rises and orders all to be prepared.
