Chapter 121·Women weep for Sītā's tender feet·Verses 1–
Women, overcome with love, are restless, like cakravākī birds at evening. They think of the lotus feet, tender, and the road, hard. With heavy hearts they say fine words: the earth shrinks, as our hearts do, to touch her soft red feet. If the Lord of the world has given them the forest, why did he not make the road flowers? If we could get from fate whatever we ask, we would keep these two in our eyes. Those men and women who did not come at the time, did not get to see Sītā and Rāma. Hearing of their beauty, they ask anxiously: how far have they gone by now? The strong run and see them, and return glad, having won the fruit of their birth. The dohā: helpless women, children and old people wring their hands and regret; so, in love, the people are overcome wherever Rāma goes.
