Chapter 112 · Travellers on the road · Verses 1–

Sītā, Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa folded their hands and bowed to the Yamunā again, then set out glad, praising the Sun's daughter. Many travellers met them on the road and, seeing the two brothers, said lovingly: all the marks of kingship are on your body, Lakṣmaṇa; seeing it we are much troubled. You walk the road on foot; astrology seems false to us. The way is hard, with hills and great forest, and with you a tender woman. Elephants and lions roam the forest and cannot be looked at; if you allow, we will go with you, and take you wherever you go, then return, bowing to you. The dohā: so they ask, in love, with thrilled bodies and tears in their eyes, and the sea of mercy sends them back with humble, gentle words.

So they ask in love, their bodies thrilled and their eyes in tears; and the sea of mercy turns them back, speaking gently and humbly.
