Chapter Eight·Śarabhaṅga gives up his body·Verses 1–दोहा 8
कह मुनि सुनु रघुबीर
The sage says he was on his way to Brahmā's world when he heard that Rāma would come to the forest, and has waited day and night since. Now that he has seen the Lord his heart is cool. He says he has no means of his own, only the grace shown to the poor. Rāma asks him to stay on until they meet again. The sage has offered all his yoga, sacrifice, prayer and vows to Rāma and taken devotion in exchange. He builds a pyre and sits in it, free of attachment, and prays for the dark-cloud Rāma, with Sītā and his brother, to live in his heart.मुनि कहते हैं कि मैं ब्रह्मलोक जा रहा था, तभी सुना कि राम वन में आएँगे; तब से दिन-रात रास्ता देखता रहा। अब प्रभु को देखकर छाती ठंडी हुई। मैं सब साधनों से हीन हूँ, पर आपने दीन जानकर कृपा की। राम ने कहा कि जब तक मैं तुमसे मिलूँ तब तक रहो। मुनि ने योग, यज्ञ, जप, तप, व्रत सब प्रभु को अर्पित कर भक्ति का वर लिया। फिर चिता रचकर वे सब आसक्ति छोड़कर बैठे और यह माँगा कि सीता और छोटे भाई सहित नील मेघ जैसे राम मेरे हृदय में सदा बसें।

मुनि ने कहा, 'सुनिए कृपालु रघुवीर, आप शंकर के मन-सरोवर के राजहंस हैं। मैं ब्रह्मलोक जा रहा था, तब सुना कि राम वन में आएँगे।

मैं दिन-रात रास्ता देखता रहा। अब प्रभु को देखकर मेरी छाती ठंडी हुई। नाथ, मैं सब साधनों से रहित था और आपने मुझे दीन सेवक जानकर कृपा की।
I have watched the road day and night. Now that I have seen the Lord, my heart is cool. Lord, I lack every means, and you have shown grace, knowing I am a poor servant.

३3सो कछु देव न मोहि निहोरा। निज पन राखेउ जन मन चोरा ॥तब लगि रहहु दीन हित लागी। जब लगि मिलौं तुम्हहि तनु त्यागी ॥

हे देव, यह मुझ पर कोई उपकार नहीं है; आप तो अपना प्रण निभाते हैं, आप जन के मन को चुराने वाले हैं। जब तक मैं शरीर छोड़कर आपसे न मिलूँ, तब तक आप दीनों के हित के लिए यहाँ रहिए।'

योग, यज्ञ, जप, तप और व्रत उसने प्रभु को सौंप दिए और बदले में भक्ति का वर ले लिया। इस प्रकार शरभंग मुनि ने चिता रचकर हृदय के सब संग छोड़ दिए और उसमें बैठ गए।
He gave up yoga, sacrifice, prayer, austerity and vows, offering them to the Lord, and took the boon of devotion in return. So the sage Śarabhaṅga built a pyre, and sat in it, leaving every attachment of the heart.

दोहा ८दोहा 8सीता अनुज समेत प्रभु नील जलद तनु स्याम।मम हियँ बसहु निरंतर सगुनरुप श्रीराम ॥ ८ ॥

'हे प्रभु, सीता और छोटे भाई सहित, नीले मेघ जैसे श्याम तन वाले अपने सगुण रूप में, श्रीराम, आप सदा मेरे हृदय में निवास कीजिए।'
