Chapter Nine·Rāma's vow to rid the earth of demons·Verses 1–
The sage burns his body in the fire of yoga and goes to Vaikuṇṭha by Rāma's grace. He did not merge in Hari, because he had first taken the boon of devotion. The other sages are glad and praise Rāma. Rāma goes on with a crowd of sages and sees a heap of bones. He asks about them, and the sages say that demons have eaten the sages. Tears fill Rāma's eyes. He lifts his arm and vows to free the earth of demons, and goes to each hermitage to comfort the sages.
