Sutīkṣṇa, a wise disciple of Agastya, serves Rāma in thought, word and deed and trusts no one else. He hears that the Lord is coming and runs out, wondering if Rāma will be kind to a fool like him. He thinks he has neither devotion, detachment, knowledge nor good company, but only one thing, that Rāma loves the one who has no other support. He is so lost in love that he does not know direction, and dances and sings. Rāma hides behind a tree and watches, and when the sage sits still as a jackfruit, Rāma shows his four-armed form in his heart. The sage opens his eyes, sees Rāma before him, and falls at his feet. Rāma lifts him and holds him close.
