Chapter Four·The Teaching of the Yoga of Freedom·Verses 1–43
Chapter 18 of the Mahābhāgavata, the fourth chapter of the Pārvatī Gītā. Himavān asks how to take refuge in the Goddess and how she is to be meditated on. Pārvatī says that of thousands, hardly one strives, and of those hardly one knows her truly. Her subtle form has no parts, is beyond speech, spotless, without qualities, the highest light, spread through all, the one cause. It is to be meditated on for freedom from the bonds of the body. She then names herself in the things of the world: the mind of the minded, the scent of earth, the taste in water, the light of the moon, the strength of the strong, the Gāyatrī among metres, the sacred syllable Om among seeds. She is not ruled by anything that comes from her. She has made her own form twofold, female and male, Śiva and Śakti, and she makes the world as Brahmā, ends it as Mahārudra, and keeps it as Viṣṇu, who comes down again and again as Rāma and others. Her gross forms are easier to approach than her subtle form, so a seeker should first worship them by rite and then reflect on the subtle. She names ten great forms, Mahākālī and the rest, as each giving freedom. She says that those who worship other gods worship her too, that all done is to be given to her, that even one of bad conduct who turns to her alone is soon freed, and that she carries across the ocean of birth anyone who bows to her with a settled mind.

He soon becomes righteous of heart, and he too slowly crosses over. For those who have devotion to me, freedom is easy to gain, lord of mountains.

"Without qualities" means beyond the three strands of nature, not lacking in goodness.
