A hymn to Tripurā Bhairavī in vasantatilakā stanzas. The poet vows to praise her for the fruit he desires and the fortune men win through her. Since even Brahmā and the gods with hundreds of hymns cannot know her subtle, beginningless form, he praises her gross form: her breasts, her body red as fresh saffron and vermilion, her three lotus eyes, her pearl necklace, her hands holding the book, rosary, boon and fearlessness — the form that only merit earned in earlier births can reach and that dull minds quarrelling over doctrines cannot. Sages call her gross, the Vedas subtle, some the home of speech, others the root of the worlds; the poet calls her a boundless ocean of compassion. The wise meditate on her as the fifty letters, moon-crested, white as the autumn moon, holding book, rosary, nectar-pot and the gesture of teaching; she is Śiva with Pārvatī as half his body, Viṣṇu embraced by Lakṣmī, Brahmā the seat of speech, and all their works; she utters the four levels of speech from parā onwards through the organs of the throat; yogins who restrain the breath and conquer the six enemies see her form, moon-crested, the friend of the young sun, at the tip of the nose; the Veda says that as half of Śiva's body she creates the worlds, and without her nothing would stand; siddha women sing to her in the golden caves of Meru; she goes from her own house to Śiva's capital, opening the lotuses on the suṣumnā path, her limbs wet with the supreme nectar; she is the birthplace of bliss, the home of the Vedas, pure consciousness, whose lotus feet Brahmā, Śiva and Viṣṇu worship; as the moon she creates the world of word and meaning, as the sun she sustains it, as fire she withdraws it at the end of the age; men call her Nārāyaṇī, saviour from the hell-ocean, Gaurī, remover of grief, Sarasvatī, giver of knowledge, three-eyed. Whoever praises the mother of the world with these twelve verses gains mastery of speech and fortune.

She who in the form of the moon creates the world of word and meaning, who again in the body of the sun sustains it by her own power, and who as fire withdraws it entire at the end of the age — that Śāradā I never forget in my mind.

Daughter of the king of mountains, they worship you in many ways — as Nārāyaṇī, as the saviour from the ocean of hell, as Gaurī, as the remover of grief, as Sarasvatī, as the giver of knowledge, as the one adorned with three eyes.
