Chapter Seven · The Marriage of Arundhatī and Vasiṣṭha · Verses 1–27

Brahmā tells how Sandhyā, unseen by anyone through Śiva's grace, held Vasiṣṭha in her heart as her chosen husband and entered the blazing fire of the sage Medhātithi's great sacrifice. Her body, consumed, became the morning and evening twilights; her life-breath, given a divine body by compassionate Śiva, was born from that same fire as Medhātithi's daughter, radiant as molten gold, whom he named Arundhatī for how she never obstructs dharma. Growing up in his hermitage on the Candrabhāgā, she was given in marriage — arranged by Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Maheśvara together — to Vasiṣṭha, and bore him illustrious sons beginning with Śakti. Brahmā closes the story of Sandhyā here, promising its fruit to any who hear it.

O sage, when Śambhu, having granted the boon, had vanished, Sandhyā too went to that very place where the sage Medhātithi was.
