Continuing his account to Nārada, Brahmā describes how Himālaya, having heard Vasiṣṭha's words, turns astonished to his fellow mountains — Meru, Sahya, Gandhamādana, Mandara, Mainā ka, Vindhya, and the rest — and asks them to deliberate on what he should do about giving Pārvatī in marriage to Śiva. The mountains, having conferred, tell Himālaya that further deliberation is pointless: the girl was born for the very purpose of the gods' work, to be given to Śiva, and Rudra himself has, as it were, already accepted her devotion. Delighted at this counsel, Himālaya's heart rejoices and Girijā smiles inwardly; Arundhatī then persuades Menā with various arguments and old stories, and Menā, once convinced, joyfully feeds the sages, Arundhatī, and Himālaya himself before eating. Free of doubt and filled with reverence, Himālaya addresses the seven great sages, declaring that his own body, his wife Menā, his sons and daughter, his prosperity and accomplishments — all belong to Śiva and none other; he adorns his daughter and seats her in the lap of the sage, announcing that he has resolved to give this portion to Śiva. The sages reply that since Śiva himself is a mendicant, Himālaya the giver, and Pārvatī herself the very alms bestowed, nothing could be more fitting — just as Himālaya's peaks tower supreme above all others, so is he supreme and blessed among the lords of mountains. Blessing the girl with a touch of the hand, the sages wish that she bring good fortune to Śiva and that her virtues wax like the moon in the bright fortnight, then joyfully offer Himālaya flowers and fruit as a token of good faith. Arundhatī further wins over Menā by praising Śiva's virtues, and Himālaya, following worldly custom, has his beard anointed with turmeric and vermilion as an auspicious rite. On the fourth day, an auspicious hour having been fixed, all repair with mutual satisfaction to Śiva's presence, bow to him, praise him with many hymns, and — addressing him as God of gods, Great God, supreme Lord, greatest Master — report with delight what his servants have accomplished: Himālaya and Menā have been won over through many fine words and old tales, and Himālaya has, beyond doubt, pledged Pārvatī in marriage. The sages urge Śiva to go at once, with his hosts and the gods, to Himālaya's house and duly wed Pārvatī for the sake of begetting a son. Delighted and mindful of worldly custom, Maheśa laughingly confesses that he has never witnessed or heard of a wedding and asks the sages to prescribe its rites as known of old. The sages, laughing in turn at this worldly reply from the Lord of lords, ask him to summon at once Viṣṇu with his whole assembly, Brahmā with his son, Indra of a hundred sacrifices, all the hosts of sages, yakṣas, gandharvas, kinnaras, siddhas, vidyādharas, and apsarases, assuring him that all these, brought together with due honour, will without doubt accomplish his task. Having said this, the seven sages, receiving Śiva's assent, joyfully depart each to his own abode, proclaiming as they go the glory of Śaṅkara's ways.

vasiṣṭho hi vadatyevaṃ kiṃ me kāryaṃ vicāryate | yathā tathā ca śaṃsadhvaṃ nirṇīya manasākhilam 3 ||
For Vasiṣṭha speaks thus — what then is my proper course, that you should deliberate upon it? Whatever it may be, decide it fully in your minds and declare it to me.

Hearing his words, those mountains headed by Sumeru, having reached a firm decision, lovingly replied to Himālaya.

What use is deliberation now? The matter is already settled. O illustrious one, this girl was born for the very purpose of the gods' work.

She must be given to Śiva, for she descended [to this world] for Śiva's sake; by her Rudra has been worshipped, and by Rudra she has, as it were, already been spoken for.
NoteThe second line's syntax is compressed and elliptical in the printed source (rudreṇa yadi bhāṣitā, literally 'by Rudra, if spoken to/declared'). It is rendered here by sense, following the printed text verbatim without alteration.

NoteLine 1 (śikharāṇānte yaddhetoḥ sadṛśī gatiḥ) is tersely phrased in the source; it is rendered here by sense, following the received reading that Himavat's peaks' supremacy among all peaks is the ground for calling him blessed.
