न हि जानन्ति देवेशि (na hi jānanti deveśi) — not even do they know, O queen of the godsnot even do they know, O queen of the gods·वेदाः शास्त्राणि कृत्स्नशः (vedāḥ śāstrāṇi kṛtsnaśaḥ) — the Vedas and all the scriptures fullythe Vedas and all the scriptures fully·अतीतो महिमा ध्यानं (atīto mahimā dhyānaṃ) — your glory and meditation lie beyondyour glory and meditation lie beyond·तव वाङ्मनसोः शिवे (tava vāṅmanasoḥ śive) — your speech and mind, O Śivāyour speech and mind, O Śivā

अतद्व्यावृत्तितस्त्वां वै (atadvyāvṛttitastvāṃ vai) — by excluding what you are notby excluding what you are not·चकितं चकितं सदा (cakitaṃ cakitaṃ sadā) — ever startled, again and againever startled, again and again·अभिधत्ते श्रुतिरपि (abhidhatte śrutirapi) — even the Śruti describes youeven the Śruti describes you·परेषां का कथा मता (pareṣāṃ kā kathā matā) — what then to say of otherswhat then to say of others

जानन्ति बहवो भक्ताः (jānanti bahavo bhaktāḥ) — many devotees do come to know youmany devotees do come to know you·त्वत्कृपां प्राप्य भक्तितः (tvatkṛpāṃ prāpya bhaktitaḥ) — having obtained your grace through devotionhaving obtained your grace through devotion·शरणागतभक्तानां (śaraṇāgatabhaktānāṃ) — for devotees who have taken refugefor devotees who have taken refuge·न कुत्रापि भयादिकम् (na kutrāpi bhayādikam) — there is no fear anywhere at allthere is no fear anywhere at all

न हि जातं प्रपूर्णं (na hi jātaṃ prapūrṇaṃ) — it has not yet been fulfilledit has not yet been fulfilled·तद्देवकार्यं महेश्वरि (taddevakāryaṃ maheśvari) — that work of the gods, O Maheśvarīthat work of the gods, O Maheśvarī·व्याकुला मुनयो देवाः (vyākulā munayo devāḥ) — distressed, sages and godsdistressed, sages and gods·शरणं त्वां गता वयम् (śaraṇaṃ tvāṃ gatā vayam) — we have come to you for refugewe have come to you for refuge

सुखी स्यादेवि रुद्रोऽपि (sukhī syādevi rudro'pi) — may Rudra too be happy, O Devīmay Rudra too be happy, O Devī·कैलासाचलसंस्थितः (kailāsācalasaṃsthitaḥ) — dwelling on Mount Kailāsadwelling on Mount Kailāsa·सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनो (sarve bhavantu sukhino) — may all become happymay all become happy·दुःखं नश्यतु कृत्स्नशः (duḥkhaṃ naśyatu kṛtsnaśaḥ) — may sorrow perish entirelymay sorrow perish entirely

इति प्रोच्यामराः सर्वे (iti procyāmarāḥ sarve) — having thus spoken, all the immortalshaving thus spoken, all the immortals·विष्ण्वाद्या प्रेमसंकुलाः (viṣṇvādyā premasaṃkulāḥ) — headed by Viṣṇu, overcome with loveheaded by Viṣṇu, overcome with love·मौनमास्थाय संतस्थुः (maunamāsthāya saṃtasthuḥ) — fell silent and stood stillfell silent and stood still·भक्तिनम्रात्ममूर्तयः (bhaktinamrātmamūrtayaḥ) — their forms bowed low in devotiontheir forms bowed low in devotion

हे हरे हे विधे (he hare he vidhe) — O Hari, O VidhiO Hari, O Vidhi·देवा मुनयश्च गतव्यथाः (devā munayaśca gatavyathāḥ) — O gods and sages, be free of distressO gods and sages, be free of distress·सर्वे शृणुत मद्वाक्यं (sarve śṛṇuta madvākyaṃ) — all of you, hear my wordall of you, hear my word·प्रसन्नाहं न संशयः (prasannāhaṃ na saṃśayaḥ) — I am pleased, there is no doubtI am pleased, there is no doubt

चरितं मम सर्वत्र (caritaṃ mama sarvatra) — my conduct everywheremy conduct everywhere·त्रैलोक्यस्य सुखावहम् (trailokyasya sukhāvaham) — brings happiness to the three worldsbrings happiness to the three worlds·कृतं मयैव सकलं (kṛtaṃ mayaiva sakalaṃ) — it was I alone who wrought allit was I alone who wrought all·दक्षमोहादिकं च तत् (dakṣamohādikaṃ ca tat) — Dakṣa's delusion and the restDakṣa's delusion and the rest

अवतारं करिष्यामि क्षितौ (avatāraṃ kariṣyāmi kṣitau) — I shall take incarnation on this earthI shall take incarnation on this earth·पूर्णं न संशयः (pūrṇaṃ na saṃśayaḥ) — in full, there is no doubtin full, there is no doubt·बहवो हेतवोऽप्यत्र (bahavo hetavo'pyatra) — there are many reasons for this toothere are many reasons for this too·तद्ददामि महादरात् (taddadāmi mahādarāt) — I state it with great regardI state it with great regard

पुरा हिमाचलो देवा (purā himācalo devā) — formerly, O gods, Himācalaformerly, O gods, Himācala·मेना चातिसुभक्तितः (menā cātisubhaktitaḥ) — and Menā, with the greatest devotionand Menā, with the greatest devotion·सेवां मे चक्रतुः (sevāṃ me cakratuḥ) — served meserved me·तातजननीवत्सतीतनोः (tātajananīvatsatītanoḥ) — as a father and mother serve their child, [me] having Satī's bodyas a father and mother serve their child, [me] having Satī's body

इदानीं कुरुतः सेवां (idānīṃ kurutaḥ sevāṃ) — even now the two of them serveeven now the two of them serve·सुभक्त्या मम नित्यशः (subhaktyā mama nityaśaḥ) — me daily with great devotionme daily with great devotion·मेना विशेषतस्तत्र (menā viśeṣatastatra) — Menā especially, in this matterMenā especially, in this matter·सुतात्वे नात्र संशयः (sutātve nātra saṃśayaḥ) — for me as a daughter, there is no doubtfor me as a daughter, there is no doubt

रुद्रो गच्छतु यूयं च (rudro gacchatu yūyaṃ ca) — let Rudra go, and you toolet Rudra go, and you too·अवतारं हिमवद्गृहे (avatāraṃ himavadgṛhe) — [I shall take] incarnation in Himavat's house[I shall take] incarnation in Himavat's house·अतश्चावतरिष्यामि (ataścāvatariṣyāmi) — thus I shall descendthus I shall descend·दुःखनाशो भविष्यति (duḥkhanāśo bhaviṣyati) — sorrow shall be destroyedsorrow shall be destroyed

सर्वे गच्छत धाम स्वं स्वं (sarve gacchata dhāma svaṃ svaṃ) — go, all of you, each to your own abodego, all of you, each to your own abode·सुखं लभतां चिरम् (sukhaṃ labhatāṃ ciram) — and long enjoy happinessand long enjoy happiness·अवतीर्य सुता भूत्वा (avatīrya sutā bhūtvā) — having descended and become her daughterhaving descended and become her daughter·मेनाया दास्य उत्सुखम् (menāyā dāsya utsukham) — I shall grant Menā great joyI shall grant Menā great joy

यावत्प्रभृति मे त्यक्ता (yāvatprabhṛti me tyaktā) — from the very time when I gave upfrom the very time when I gave up·स्वतनुर्दक्षजा सुराः (svatanurdakṣajā surāḥ) — my own body, O gods, I, Dakṣa's daughtermy own body, O gods, I, Dakṣa's daughter·पितृतोऽनादरं दृष्ट्वा (pitṛto'nādaraṃ dṛṣṭvā) — having seen dishonour from my fatherhaving seen dishonour from my father·स्वामिनस्तत्क्रतौ गता (svāminastatkratau gatā) — toward my husband, in that sacrificetoward my husband, in that sacrifice

तदाप्रभृति स स्वामी (tadāprabhṛti sa svāmī) — since that very time, that lordsince that very time, that lord·रुद्रः कालाग्निसंज्ञकः (rudraḥ kālāgnisaṃjñakaḥ) — Rudra, called KālāgniRudra, called Kālāgni·दिगम्बरो बभूवाशु (digambaro babhūvāśu) — at once became sky-cladat once became sky-clad·मच्चिन्तनपरायणः (maccintanaparāyaṇaḥ) — wholly devoted to thinking of mewholly devoted to thinking of me

मम रोषं क्रतौ दृष्ट्वा (mama roṣaṃ kratau dṛṣṭvā) — having seen my anger at the sacrificehaving seen my anger at the sacrifice·पितुस्तत्र गता सती (pitustatra gatā satī) — Satī, having gone there, at her father'sSatī, having gone there, at her father's·अत्यजत्स्वतनुं प्रीत्या (atyajatsvatanuṃ prītyā) — gave up her own body out of lovegave up her own body out of love·धर्मज्ञेति विचारतः (dharmajñeti vicārataḥ) — thinking, thus I know my dutythinking, thus I know my duty

विधाय मालां सुप्रीत्या (vidhāya mālāṃ suprītyā) — having, out of great love, made a garlandhaving, out of great love, made a garland·ममास्थ्नां विरहाकुलः (mamāsthnāṃ virahākulaḥ) — of my bones, tormented by separationof my bones, tormented by separation·न शान्तिं प्राप कुत्रापि (na śāntiṃ prāpa kutrāpi) — he found peace nowhere at allhe found peace nowhere at all·प्रबुद्धोऽप्येक एव सः (prabuddho'pyeka eva saḥ) — that one alone, though awakenedthat one alone, though awakened

इत्थं लीलां हरोऽकार्षीत् (itthaṃ līlāṃ haro'kārṣīt) — thus Hara enacted his playthus Hara enacted his play·दर्शयन्कामिनां प्रभुः (darśayankāmināṃ prabhuḥ) — the lord, showing the ways of loversthe lord, showing the ways of lovers·ऊचे कामुकवद्वाणीं (ūce kāmukavadvāṇīṃ) — he speaks words like one who is love-struckhe speaks words like one who is love-struck·विरहव्याकुलामिव (virahavyākulāmiva) — as though racked by separationas though racked by separation

वस्तुतोऽविकृतोऽदीनः (vastuto'vikṛto'dīnaḥ) — in truth he is unchanged, undistressedin truth he is unchanged, undistressed·अस्त्यजितः परमेश्वरः (astyajitaḥ parameśvaraḥ) — he is unconquered, the supreme lordhe is unconquered, the supreme lord·परिपूर्णः शिवः स्वामी (paripūrṇaḥ śivaḥ svāmī) — perfect and entire, Śiva, the masterperfect and entire, Śiva, the master·मायाधीशोऽखिलेश्वरः (māyādhīśo'khileśvaraḥ) — ruler of māyā, lord of allruler of māyā, lord of all

भक्ता रुद्रप्रिया भूत्वा (bhaktā rudrapriyā bhūtvā) — having become a devotee, dear to Rudrahaving become a devotee, dear to Rudra·तपः कृत्वा सुदुस्सहम् (tapaḥ kṛtvā sudussaham) — and performed a most unbearable austerityand performed a most unbearable austerity·देवकार्यं करिष्यामि (devakāryaṃ kariṣyāmi) — I shall accomplish the gods' workI shall accomplish the gods' work·सत्यं सत्यं न संशयः (satyaṃ satyaṃ na saṃśayaḥ) — this is true, true, there is no doubtthis is true, true, there is no doubt

गच्छत स्वगृहं सर्वे (gacchata svagṛhaṃ sarve) — go, all of you, to your own homesgo, all of you, to your own homes·भवं भजत नित्यशः (bhavaṃ bhajata nityaśaḥ) — and worship Bhava alwaysand worship Bhava always·तत्कृपातोऽखिलं दुःखं (tatkṛpāto'khilaṃ duḥkhaṃ) — by his grace all sorrowby his grace all sorrow·विनश्यति न संशयः (vinaśyati na saṃśayaḥ) — shall be destroyed, there is no doubtshall be destroyed, there is no doubt

भविष्यति कृपालोस्तु (bhaviṣyati kṛpālostu) — by the compassionate one's graceby the compassionate one's grace·कृपया मङ्गलं सदा (kṛpayā maṅgalaṃ sadā) — good fortune shall be forevergood fortune shall be forever·वन्द्या पूज्या त्रिलोकेऽहं (vandyā pūjyā triloke'haṃ) — I shall be revered and worshipped in the three worldsI shall be revered and worshipped in the three worlds·तज्जायेति च हेतुतः (tajjāyeti ca hetutaḥ) — for that reason, being born as his wifefor that reason, being born as his wife

इत्युक्त्वा जगदम्बा सा (ityuktvā jagadambā sā) — having said this, that Jagadambāhaving said this, that Jagadambā·देवानां पश्यतां तदा (devānāṃ paśyatāṃ tadā) — then, even as the gods watchedthen, even as the gods watched·अन्तर्दधे शिवा तात (antardadhe śivā tāta) — Śivā vanished, O dear oneŚivā vanished, O dear one·स्वं लोकं प्राप वै द्रुतम् (svaṃ lokaṃ prāpa vai drutam) — and swiftly reached her own realmand swiftly reached her own realm

विष्णवादयः सुराः सर्वे (viṣṇavādayaḥ surāḥ sarve) — all the gods headed by Viṣṇuall the gods headed by Viṣṇu·मुनयश्च मुदान्विताः (munayaśca mudānvitāḥ) — and the sages too, filled with joyand the sages too, filled with joy·कृत्वा तद्दिशि सन्नामं (kṛtvā taddiśi sannāmaṃ) — having bowed toward that directionhaving bowed toward that direction·स्वस्वधामानि संययुः (svasvadhāmāni saṃyayuḥ) — went off to their own respective abodeswent off to their own respective abodes
