रुद्रसंहिता — पार्वतीखण्डअथैकपञ्चाशत्तमोऽध्यायः
Continuing his narration to Nārada, Brahmā tells how, amid the joy of the wedding, Rati, grieving for her husband Kāma whom Śiva had earlier burnt to ashes, approached Śaṅkara and begged him to restore Kāma to life, protesting that she alone was sorrowful amid the festivities and that only Śiva, all-capable, could end her grief. Handing him the ash-relic of Kāma tied in a knot, she wept before him, and, hearing her cries, Sarasvatī and the other goddesses wept and pleaded with Śiva as well, praising him as tender to his devotees and begging him to revive Kāma and restore Rati's spirit. Moved to compassion, Maheśvara cast his merciful glance upon the ashes, and Kāma emerged from them in his former beautiful form, bow and arrow in hand; Rati, overjoyed, bowed to her living husband and to Maheśvara, and praised Śiva for reuniting her with the lord of her life. Pleased by Kāma's and Rati's praise, Śaṅkara offered Kāma a boon; Kāma, overcome with joy, asked only to be forgiven his past offence and granted love and devotion toward Śiva's own people. Śiva granted this gladly and sent Kāma to wait upon Viṣṇu outside; there the gods welcomed him with blessings, reflecting that no one but oneself is the true cause of one's own joy or sorrow, and that protection, marriage and conception each come in their own time, beyond anyone's power to prevent. All the gods, their wishes fulfilled, remained there content, and Kāma too dwelt there by Śiva's command amid cries of victory and praise. Śambhu then fed Pārvatī in his dwelling and was fed by her in turn; following worldly custom, he took leave of Menā and the mountain-lord and, amid Vedic chant and music, went with the wedding party to the guest-lodging, where he bowed to the sages, to Viṣṇu and to Brahmā, and was in turn honoured by the gods. Viṣṇu, Brahmā, Indra, the gods, sages, siddhas, demigods and nāgas each praised Śiva separately, extolling him as the formless, qualityless support of all who yet assumes form through his own sport and through the qualities of Māyā, as friend of the lowly and ocean of compassion, beyond speech and mind. Pleased with their praise, Śambhu Maheśāna, lord of Girijā, bestowed his gracious regard upon them all; and the gods, having received his leave, returned to their own abodes overjoyed. ब्रह्माजी नारदजीको आगेकी कथा सुनाते हुए बताते हैं कि विवाहोत्सवके बीच रति अपने भस्म हुए पति कामदेवके लिये शोकाकुल होकर शंकरजीसे उन्हें जीवित करनेकी प्रार्थना करने लगीं, यह कहते हुए कि इस उत्सवमें सभी सुखी हैं, केवल वे ही दुःखी हैं, और शिवके सिवा कोई इस दुःखको दूर नहीं कर सकता। गाँठमें बँधी हुई कामकी भस्म शिवजीके सामने रखकर रति रोने लगीं; उनके रुदनको सुनकर सरस्वती आदि देवियाँ भी रो पड़ीं और शिवसे दीन वचन बोलते हुए भक्तवत्सल प्रभुसे कामदेवको जीवित करने तथा रतिको पुनः प्रसन्न करनेकी प्रार्थना करने लगीं। इस करुण पुकारको सुनकर करुणासागर महेश्वर प्रसन्न हो गये और अपनी कृपादृष्टिसे भस्मसे कामदेवको पूर्वरूपमें प्रकट कर दिया; रति तथा कामदेवने शिवकी स्तुति की, जिससे प्रसन्न होकर शिवजीने कामदेवसे वर माँगनेको कहा; कामदेवने अपने पूर्वापराधकी क्षमा तथा शिवके भक्तोंमें प्रीति-भक्ति माँगी, जिसे शिवजीने सहर्ष स्वीकार करते हुए उन्हें विष्णुके पास भेज दिया। वहाँ देवताओंने कामदेवका स्वागत किया और यह बताते हुए शुभाशीष दी कि सुख-दुःखका कारण मनुष्य स्वयं ही है, और रक्षा, विवाह तथा गर्भाधान समय आनेपर ही होते हैं, जिन्हें कोई रोक नहीं सकता। सभी देवता अपना मनोरथ पाकर सुखपूर्वक वहीं ठहर गये और कामदेव भी शिवकी आज्ञासे वहीं निवास करने लगे। तत्पश्चात् शम्भुने अपने निवासगृहमें पार्वतीको भोजन कराया और स्वयं भी उनके हाथसे भोजन किया; इसके बाद लोकाचारका पालन करते हुए मेना तथा हिमालयसे आज्ञा लेकर वे वेदध्वनि तथा वाद्योंके बीच बरातके साथ जनवासको चले गये। वहाँ शम्भुने मुनियों, विष्णु तथा ब्रह्माको प्रणाम किया और लोकाचारवश देवताओंने भी उनका वन्दन किया; जय-जयकार तथा वेदध्वनिसे सभी विघ्न दूर हो गये। तत्पश्चात् विष्णु, ब्रह्मा, इन्द्र, समस्त देवगण, ऋषि, सिद्ध, उपसुर तथा नागोंने पृथक्-पृथक् शिवकी स्तुति की—उन्हें अखिलाधार, निर्गुण, कारणातीत, सर्वव्यापी, तथा लीलासे रूप धारण करनेवाला, मायाके गुणोंसे आकृतिधारी, दीनबन्धु एवं करुणानिधि बताया। इस स्तुतिसे प्रसन्न होकर गिरिजानायक महेशानने सबको यथोचित सम्मान प्रदान किया, और आज्ञा पाकर सभी देवता अत्यन्त हर्षित तथा प्रसन्नचित्त होकर अपने-अपने स्थानको लौट गये।
१ तस्मिन्नवसरे ज्ञात्वानुकूलं समयं रतिः। सुप्रसन्ना च तं प्राह शङ्करं दीनवत्सलम्॥ १
tasminnavasare jñātvānukūlaṃ samayaṃ ratiḥ | suprasannā ca taṃ prāha śaṅkaraṃ dīnavatsalam 1 ||
उस अवसरपर अनुकूल समय जानकर अत्यन्त प्रसन्न रतिने दीनवत्सल शंकरजीसे कहा।
On that occasion, Rati, perceiving the moment to be favourable, well pleased, spoke to Śaṅkara, who is tender toward the lowly.
तस्मिन्नवसरे ज्ञात्वा (tasminnavasare jñātvā) — on that occasion, knowingअनुकूलं समयं रतिः (anukūlaṃ samayaṃ ratiḥ) — the moment to be favourable, Ratiसुप्रसन्ना च तं प्राह (suprasannā ca taṃ prāha) — well pleased, said to himशङ्करं दीनवत्सलम् (śaṅkaraṃ dīnavatsalam) — to Śaṅkara, tender toward the lowly
२ गृहीत्वा पार्वतीं प्राप्तं सौभाग्यमतिदुर्लभम्। किमर्थं प्राणनाथो मे निस्स्वार्थं भस्मसात्कृतः॥ २
gṛhītvā pārvatīṃ prāptaṃ saubhāgyamatidurlabham | kimarthaṃ prāṇanātho me nissvārthaṃ bhasmasātkṛtaḥ 2 ||
पार्वतीको पाकर आपने अत्यन्त दुर्लभ सौभाग्य प्राप्त किया, फिर बिना किसी स्वार्थके मेरे प्राणनाथको आपने भस्म क्यों कर दिया?
"Having gained Pārvatī, you have won a good fortune most hard to attain — why then, without any gain to yourself, have you reduced the lord of my life to ashes?"
गृहीत्वा पार्वतीं (gṛhītvā pārvatīṃ) — by taking Pārvatīप्राप्तं सौभाग्यमतिदुर्लभम् (prāptaṃ saubhāgyamatidurlabham) — you have obtained a good fortune most hard to attainकिमर्थं प्राणनाथो मे (kimarthaṃ prāṇanātho me) — why then, the lord of my lifeनिस्स्वार्थं भस्मसात्कृतः (nissvārthaṃ bhasmasātkṛtaḥ) — without any gain [to yourself], reduced to ashes
३ जीवयात्र पतिं मे हि कामव्यापारमात्मनि। कुरु दूरं च सन्तापं समविश्लेषहेतुकम्॥ ३
jīvayātra patiṃ me hi kāmavyāpāramātmani | kuru dūraṃ ca santāpaṃ samaviśleṣahetukam 3 ||
यहाँ मेरे पतिको जीवित कीजिये तथा अपनेमें कामकी क्रियाको भी [पुनः जाग्रत् कीजिये], और हम दोनोंके समान वियोगसे उत्पन्न इस सन्तापको दूर कीजिये।
"Revive my husband here, and with him the working of desire in yourself; drive far away this anguish caused by a parting that has struck us both alike."
Noteसमविश्लेषहेतुकम् is a compact compound; rendered as "the anguish whose cause is a parting shared alike [by Rati and by Śiva-Pārvatī's own delayed union]" — the precise referent of sama- is left implicit in the Sanskrit.
जीवय अत्र पतिं मे हि (jīvaya atra patiṃ me hi) — revive here my husbandकामव्यापारमात्मनि (kāmavyāpāramātmani) — [and] the working of desire in yourselfकुरु दूरं च सन्तापं (kuru dūraṃ ca santāpaṃ) — and drive far away the anguishसमविश्लेषहेतुकम् (samaviśleṣahetukam) — whose cause is [this] parting that has struck us both alike
४ विवाहोत्सव एतस्मिन् सुखिनो निखिला जनाः। अहमेका महेशान दुःखिनी स्वपतिं विना॥ ४
vivāhotsava etasmin sukhino nikhilā janāḥ | ahamekā maheśāna duḥkhinī svapatiṃ vinā 4 ||
हे महेश्वर! इस विवाहोत्सवमें सभी लोग सुखी हैं, केवल मैं ही अपने पतिके बिना दुःखी हूँ।
"In this wedding festival all people are joyful; I alone, O great lord, am sorrowful, without my own husband."
विवाहोत्सव एतस्मिन् (vivāhotsava etasmin) — in this wedding-festivalसुखिनो निखिला जनाः (sukhino nikhilā janāḥ) — all people are joyfulअहमेका महेशान (ahamekā maheśāna) — I alone, O great lordदुःखिनी स्वपतिं विना (duḥkhinī svapatiṃ vinā) — am sorrowful, without my own husband
५ सनाथां कुरु मां देव प्रसन्नो भव शङ्कर। स्वोक्तं सत्यं विधेहि त्वं दीनबन्धो पर प्रभो॥ ५
sanāthāṃ kuru māṃ deva prasanno bhava śaṅkara | svoktaṃ satyaṃ vidhehi tvaṃ dīnabandho para prabho 5 ||
हे देव! मुझे सनाथ कीजिये, हे शंकर! प्रसन्न होइये। हे दीनबन्धो! हे परम प्रभो! अपने कहे हुए वचनको सत्य कीजिये।
"Give me a protector, O god; be pleased, O Śaṅkara. Make your own word true, O friend of the lowly, O supreme lord."
सनाथां कुरु मां देव (sanāthāṃ kuru māṃ deva) — make me one with a protector, O godप्रसन्नो भव शङ्कर (prasanno bhava śaṅkara) — be pleased, O Śaṅkaraस्वोक्तं सत्यं विधेहि त्वं (svoktaṃ satyaṃ vidhehi tvaṃ) — make your own word trueदीनबन्धो पर प्रभो (dīnabandho para prabho) — O friend of the lowly, O supreme lord
६ त्वां विना कः समर्थोऽत्र त्रैलोक्ये सचराचरे। नाशने मम दुःखस्य ज्ञात्वेति करुणां कुरु॥ ६
tvāṃ vinā kaḥ samartho'tra trailokye sacarācare | nāśane mama duḥkhasya jñātveti karuṇāṃ kuru 6 ||
आपके बिना इस चराचर त्रिलोकमें मेरे दुःखको नष्ट करनेमें कौन समर्थ है? यह जानकर मुझपर करुणा कीजिये।
"Without you, who in this triple world of moving and unmoving beings is able to destroy my sorrow? Knowing this, show compassion."
त्वां विना कः समर्थोऽत्र (tvāṃ vinā kaḥ samartho'tra) — without you, who here is ableत्रैलोक्ये सचराचरे (trailokye sacarācare) — in this triple world with its moving and unmoving beingsनाशने मम दुःखस्य (nāśane mama duḥkhasya) — in the destroying of my sorrowज्ञात्वेति करुणां कुरु (jñātveti karuṇāṃ kuru) — knowing this, show compassion
७ सोत्सवे स्वविवाहेऽस्मिन्सर्वानन्दप्रदायिनि। सोत्सवामपि मां नाथ कुरु दीनकृपाकर॥ ७
sotsave svavivāhe'sminsarvānandapradāyini | sotsavāmapi māṃ nātha kuru dīnakṛpākara 7 ||
हे नाथ! हे दीनोंपर कृपा करनेवाले! सबको आनन्द देनेवाले अपने इस उत्सवमय विवाहमें मुझे भी आनन्दित कीजिये।
"In this festive wedding of your own, which gives joy to everyone, make me too joyful, O lord, O merciful one to the lowly."
सोत्सवे स्वविवाहे अस्मिन् (sotsave svavivāhe asmin) — in this festive wedding of your ownसर्वानन्दप्रदायिनि (sarvānandapradāyini) — which gives joy to allसोत्सवाम् अपि मां नाथ (sotsavām api māṃ nātha) — me too, [make] festive, O lordकुरु दीनकृपाकर (kuru dīnakṛpākara) — O merciful one to the lowly
८ जीविते मम नाथे हि पार्वत्या प्रियया सह। सुविहारः प्रपूर्णश्च भविष्यति न संशयः॥ ८
jīvite mama nāthe hi pārvatyā priyayā saha | suvihāraḥ prapūrṇaśca bhaviṣyati na saṃśayaḥ 8 ||
मेरे पतिके जीवित रहनेपर ही प्रिया पार्वतीके साथ आपका विहार पूर्ण होगा, इसमें सन्देह नहीं।
"When my lord lives, then, with your beloved Pārvatī, your delightful sport will be wholly complete — of this there is no doubt."
जीविते मम नाथे हि (jīvite mama nāthe hi) — when my lord is aliveपार्वत्या प्रियया सह (pārvatyā priyayā saha) — together with your beloved Pārvatīसुविहारः प्रपूर्णश्च (suvihāraḥ prapūrṇaśca) — [your] delightful sport will be utterly completeभविष्यति न संशयः (bhaviṣyati na saṃśayaḥ) — there is no doubt of this
९ सर्वं कर्तुं समर्थोऽसि यतस्त्वं परमेश्वरः। किं बहूक्त्यात्र सर्वेश जीवयाशु पतिं मम॥ ९
sarvaṃ kartuṃ samartho'si yatastvaṃ parameśvaraḥ | kiṃ bahūktyātra sarveśa jīvayāśu patiṃ mama 9 ||
आप सब कुछ करनेमें समर्थ हैं, क्योंकि आप परमेश्वर हैं; हे सर्वेश! अधिक कहनेसे क्या, शीघ्र ही मेरे पतिको जीवित कीजिये।
"You are able to do anything, since you are the supreme lord; what use is much talk here, O lord of all — swiftly revive my husband."
सर्वं कर्तुं समर्थोऽसि (sarvaṃ kartuṃ samartho'si) — you are able to do everythingयतस्त्वं परमेश्वरः (yatastvaṃ parameśvaraḥ) — since you are the supreme lordकिं बहूक्त्यात्र सर्वेश (kiṃ bahūktyātra sarveśa) — what use is much speech here, O lord of allजीवयाशु पतिं मम (jīvayāśu patiṃ mama) — swiftly revive my husband
१० तदित्युक्त्वा कामभस्म ददौ सग्रन्थिबन्धनम्। रुरोद पुरतः शम्भोर्नाथ नाथेत्युदीर्य च॥ १०
tadityuktvā kāmabhasma dadau sagranthibandhanam | ruroda purataḥ śambhornātha nāthetyudīrya ca 10 ||
ऐसा कहकर उसने गाँठमें बाँधी हुई कामकी भस्म [शिवके सामने] रख दी और "हे नाथ! हे नाथ!" कहती हुई शम्भुके सामने रोने लगी।
Having said this, she offered up Kāma's ashes, bound in a knotted cloth, and wept before Śambhu, crying out again and again, "O lord! O lord!"
तदित्युक्त्वा कामभस्म (tadityuktvā kāmabhasma) — having said this, [she offered] Kāma's ashesददौ सग्रन्थिबन्धनम् (dadau sagranthibandhanam) — she gave, tied up in a knot [of cloth]रुरोद पुरतः शम्भोः (ruroda purataḥ śambhoḥ) — she wept before Śambhuनाथ नाथेत्युदीर्य च (nātha nāthetyudīrya ca) — and crying out, "O lord! O lord!"
११ रतिरोदनमाकर्ण्य सरस्वत्यादयः स्त्रियः। रुरुदुः सकला देव्यः प्रोचुर्दीनतरं वचः॥ ११
ratirodanamākarṇya sarasvatyādayaḥ striyaḥ | ruruduḥ sakalā devyaḥ procurdīnataraṃ vacaḥ 11 ||
रतिके रुदनको सुनकर सरस्वती आदि सभी देवियाँ रोने लगीं और अत्यन्त दीन वचन कहने लगीं।
Hearing Rati's weeping, the women headed by Sarasvatī — all the goddesses — wept, and spoke words of deep distress.
रतिरोदनमाकर्ण्य (ratirodanamākarṇya) — hearing Rati's weepingसरस्वत्यादयः स्त्रियः (sarasvatyādayaḥ striyaḥ) — the women headed by Sarasvatīरुरुदुः सकला देव्यः (ruruduḥ sakalā devyaḥ) — all the goddesses weptप्रोचुर्दीनतरं वचः (procurdīnataraṃ vacaḥ) — and spoke most piteous words
१२ भक्तवत्सलनामा त्वं दीनबन्धुर्दयानिधिः। कामं जीवय सोत्साहां रतिं कुरु नमोऽस्तु ते॥ १२
bhaktavatsalanāmā tvaṃ dīnabandhurdayānidhiḥ | kāmaṃ jīvaya sotsāhāṃ ratiṃ kuru namo'stu te 12 ||
आप भक्तवत्सल नामवाले, दीनबन्धु तथा दयानिधि हैं; कामको जीवित कीजिये और रतिको उत्साहयुक्त कीजिये, आपको नमस्कार है।
"You bear the name 'tender toward your devotees', friend of the lowly, treasury of mercy; revive Kāma, and make Rati full of zeal once more — homage to you."
भक्तवत्सलनामा त्वं (bhaktavatsalanāmā tvaṃ) — you bear the name 'tender to your devotees'दीनबन्धुर्दयानिधिः (dīnabandhurdayānidhiḥ) — friend of the lowly, treasury of mercyकामं जीवय सोत्साहां (kāmaṃ jīvaya sotsāhāṃ) — revive Kāma, and full of zealरतिं कुरु नमोऽस्तु ते (ratiṃ kuru namo'stu te) — make Rati [again] — homage to you
१३ इति तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा प्रसन्नोऽभून्महेश्वरः। कृपादृष्टिं चकाराशु करुणासागरः प्रभुः॥ १३
iti tadvacanaṃ śrutvā prasanno'bhūnmaheśvaraḥ | kṛpādṛṣṭiṃ cakārāśu karuṇāsāgaraḥ prabhuḥ 13 ||
यह वचन सुनकर महेश्वर प्रसन्न हो गये; करुणासागर प्रभुने शीघ्र ही कृपादृष्टि की।
Hearing this speech, Maheśvara became pleased; the lord, an ocean of compassion, swiftly cast his glance of mercy.
इति तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा (iti tadvacanaṃ śrutvā) — hearing this speechप्रसन्नोऽभून्महेश्वरः (prasanno'bhūnmaheśvaraḥ) — Maheśvara became pleasedकृपादृष्टिं चकाराशु (kṛpādṛṣṭiṃ cakārāśu) — he swiftly cast a glance of mercyकरुणासागरः प्रभुः (karuṇāsāgaraḥ prabhuḥ) — the lord, an ocean of compassion
१४ सुधादृष्ट्या शूलभृतो भस्मतो निर्गतः स्मरः। तद्रूपवेषचिह्नात्मा सुन्दरोऽद्भुतमूर्तिमान्॥ १४
sudhādṛṣṭyā śūlabhṛto bhasmato nirgataḥ smaraḥ | tadrūpaveṣacihnātmā sundaro'dbhutamūrtimān 14 ||
शूलधारी शिवकी अमृतमयी दृष्टिसे कामदेव भस्मसे प्रकट हो गये, वे उसी रूप-वेष-चिह्नवाले, सुन्दर तथा अद्भुत शरीरवाले थे।
By the nectar-like glance of the trident-bearer, Smara emerged from the ashes, bearing that same form, dress and marks, beautiful, his body a wonder to behold.
सुधादृष्ट्या शूलभृतो (sudhādṛṣṭyā śūlabhṛto) — by the nectar-like glance of the trident-bearerभस्मतो निर्गतः स्मरः (bhasmato nirgataḥ smaraḥ) — Smara emerged from the ashesतद्रूपवेषचिह्नात्मा (tadrūpaveṣacihnātmā) — of that same form, guise and marksसुन्दरोऽद्भुतमूर्तिमान् (sundaro'dbhutamūrtimān) — beautiful, of wondrous body
१५ तद्रूपं च तदाकारं सस्मितं सधनुश्शरम्। दृष्ट्वा पतिं रतिस्तं च प्रणनाम महेश्वरम्॥ १५
tadrūpaṃ ca tadākāraṃ sasmitaṃ sadhanuśśaram | dṛṣṭvā patiṃ ratistaṃ ca praṇanāma maheśvaram 15 ||
उसी रूप तथा आकारवाले, मुस्कराते हुए, धनुष-बाणसहित अपने पतिको देखकर रतिने उन्हें तथा महेश्वरको प्रणाम किया।
Seeing her husband of that same form and shape, smiling, bow and arrow in hand, Rati bowed down to him and to Maheśvara.
तद्रूपं च तदाकारं (tadrūpaṃ ca tadākāraṃ) — of that same form and that same shapeसस्मितं सधनुश्शरम् (sasmitaṃ sadhanuśśaram) — smiling, with bow and arrowदृष्ट्वा पतिं रतिस्तं च (dṛṣṭvā patiṃ ratistaṃ ca) — seeing her husband, Rati [bowed] to himप्रणनाम महेश्वरम् (praṇanāma maheśvaram) — and bowed down to Maheśvara
१६ कृतार्थाभूच्छिवं देवं तुष्टाव च कृताञ्जलिः। प्राणनाथप्रदं पत्या जीवितेन पुनः पुनः॥ १६
kṛtārthābhūcchivaṃ devaṃ tuṣṭāva ca kṛtāñjaliḥ | prāṇanāthapradaṃ patyā jīvitena punaḥ punaḥ 16 ||
वह कृतार्थ हो गयी और हाथ जोड़कर, अपने जीवित पतिके साथ, प्राणनाथको प्रदान करनेवाले शिवदेवकी बार-बार स्तुति करने लगी।
She became fulfilled, and with folded hands praised the god Śiva, who had restored the lord of her life to her — again and again she praised him, with her husband now alive.
कृतार्था अभूत् शिवं देवं (kṛtārthā abhūt śivaṃ devaṃ) — she became fulfilled, [and praised] the god Śivaतुष्टाव च कृताञ्जलिः (tuṣṭāva ca kṛtāñjaliḥ) — and praised him with folded handsप्राणनाथप्रदं पत्या (prāṇanāthapradaṃ patyā) — who had given [back] the lord of her life, together with her husbandजीवितेन पुनः पुनः (jīvitena punaḥ punaḥ) — now living, again and again
१७ कामस्य स्तुतिमाकर्ण्य सनारीकस्य शङ्करः। प्रसन्नोऽभवदत्यन्तमुवाच करुणार्द्रधीः॥ १७
kāmasya stutimākarṇya sanārīkasya śaṅkaraḥ | prasanno'bhavadatyantamuvāca karuṇārdradhīḥ 17 ||
पत्नीसहित कामकी स्तुति सुनकर शंकर अत्यन्त प्रसन्न हो गये और करुणासे आर्द्र होकर कहने लगे।
Hearing the praise of Kāma, offered together with his wife, Śaṅkara became exceedingly pleased, and, his heart melted with compassion, spoke.
Noteसनारीकस्य (repeated in verse 18) is an unusual formation from नारी + क, printed thus in the source, meaning "together with his wife"; kept verbatim.
कामस्य स्तुतिमाकर्ण्य (kāmasya stutimākarṇya) — hearing Kāma's praiseसनारीकस्य शङ्करः (sanārīkasya śaṅkaraḥ) — together with his wife — Śaṅkaraप्रसन्नोऽभवदत्यन्तम् (prasanno'bhavadatyantam) — became exceedingly pleasedउवाच करुणार्द्रधीः (uvāca karuṇārdradhīḥ) — and, his mind melted with compassion, spoke
१८ प्रसन्नोऽहं तव स्तुत्या सनारीकस्य चित्तज। स्वयंभव वरं ब्रूहि वाञ्छितं तद् ददामि ते॥ १८
prasanno'haṃ tava stutyā sanārīkasya cittaja | svayaṃbhava varaṃ brūhi vāñchitaṃ tad dadāmi te 18 ||
हे मनोजरूप कामदेव! पत्नीसहित तुम्हारी स्तुतिसे मैं प्रसन्न हूँ; हे स्वयम्भव! अभीष्ट वर माँगो, मैं वह तुम्हें देता हूँ।
"I am pleased, O mind-born one, by your praise offered together with your wife; O self-born one, name the boon you desire — I grant it to you."
प्रसन्नोऽहं तव स्तुत्या (prasanno'haṃ tava stutyā) — I am pleased by your praiseसनारीकस्य चित्तज (sanārīkasya cittaja) — offered together with your wife, O mind-born oneस्वयंभव वरं ब्रूहि (svayaṃbhava varaṃ brūhi) — O self-born, name your boonवाञ्छितं तद् ददामि ते (vāñchitaṃ tad dadāmi te) — whatever you desire, that I grant to you
१९ इति शम्भुवचः श्रुत्वा महानन्दः स्मरस्तदा। उवाच साञ्जलिर्नम्रो गद्गदाक्षरया गिरा॥ १९
iti śambhuvacaḥ śrutvā mahānandaḥ smarastadā | uvāca sāñjalirnamro gadgadākṣarayā girā 19 ||
शम्भुके इस वचनको सुनकर अत्यन्त आनन्दित कामदेव हाथ जोड़कर, विनम्र होकर, गद्गद वाणीमें बोले।
Hearing these words of Śambhu, Smara, greatly delighted, then spoke, with folded hands, bowed low, his voice choked with emotion.
इति शम्भुवचः श्रुत्वा (iti śambhuvacaḥ śrutvā) — hearing these words of Śambhuमहानन्दः स्मरस्तदा (mahānandaḥ smarastadā) — Smara, then greatly delightedउवाच साञ्जलिर्नम्रो (uvāca sāñjalirnamro) — spoke, with folded hands, bowed lowगद्गदाक्षरया गिरा (gadgadākṣarayā girā) — in a voice choked with emotion
२० देवदेव महादेव करुणासागर प्रभो। यदि प्रसन्नः सर्वेश ममानन्दकरो भव॥ २०
devadeva mahādeva karuṇāsāgara prabho | yadi prasannaḥ sarveśa mamānandakaro bhava 20 ||
हे देवदेव! हे महादेव! हे करुणासागर! हे प्रभो! यदि आप प्रसन्न हैं तो हे सर्वेश! मेरे आनन्दके कारण बनिये।
"O god of gods, great god, ocean of compassion, O lord; if you are pleased, O lord of all, be the source of my joy."
देवदेव महादेव (devadeva mahādeva) — O god of gods, O great godकरुणासागर प्रभो (karuṇāsāgara prabho) — O ocean of compassion, O lordयदि प्रसन्नः सर्वेश (yadi prasannaḥ sarveśa) — if you are pleased, O lord of allममानन्दकरो भव (mamānandakaro bhava) — be the giver of my joy
२१ क्षमस्व मेऽपराधं हि यत्कृतश्च पुरा प्रभो। स्वजनेषु परां प्रीतिं भक्तिं देहि स्वपादयोः॥ २१
kṣamasva me'parādhaṃ hi yatkṛtaśca purā prabho | svajaneṣu parāṃ prītiṃ bhaktiṃ dehi svapādayoḥ 21 ||
हे प्रभो! मैंने पहले जो अपराध किया है, उसे क्षमा कीजिये; अपने जनोंमें परम प्रीति तथा अपने चरणोंमें भक्ति प्रदान कीजिये।
"Forgive, O lord, the offence I committed before; grant supreme love toward your own people, and devotion at your feet."
क्षमस्व मेऽपराधं हि (kṣamasva me'parādhaṃ hi) — forgive my offenceयत्कृतश्च पुरा प्रभो (yatkṛtaśca purā prabho) — which was committed before, O lordस्वजनेषु परां प्रीतिं (svajaneṣu parāṃ prītiṃ) — supreme love toward your own peopleभक्तिं देहि स्वपादयोः (bhaktiṃ dehi svapādayoḥ) — and devotion at your own feet — grant [these]
२२ इत्याकर्ण्य स्मरवचः प्रसन्नः परमेश्वरः। ओमित्युक्त्वाब्रवीत्तं वै विहसन्करुणानिधिः॥ २२
ityākarṇya smaravacaḥ prasannaḥ parameśvaraḥ | omityuktvābravīttaṃ vai vihasankaruṇānidhiḥ 22 ||
कामदेवके इस वचनको सुनकर प्रसन्न हुए परमेश्वरने "ॐ तथास्तु" कहकर, हँसते हुए करुणानिधिने उनसे कहा।
Hearing Smara's words, the supreme lord, pleased, said, "Om, so be it," and, smiling, the ocean of mercy spoke to him.
इत्याकर्ण्य स्मरवचः (ityākarṇya smaravacaḥ) — hearing Smara's wordsप्रसन्नः परमेश्वरः (prasannaḥ parameśvaraḥ) — the supreme lord, pleasedओमित्युक्त्वाब्रवीत्तं वै (omityuktvābravīttaṃ vai) — having said "Om, so be it," spoke to himविहसन्करुणानिधिः (vihasankaruṇānidhiḥ) — the ocean of mercy, smiling
२३ हे कामाहं प्रसन्नोऽस्मि भयं त्यज महामते। गच्छ विष्णुसमीपं च बहिःस्थाने स्थितो भव॥ २३
he kāmāhaṃ prasanno'smi bhayaṃ tyaja mahāmate | gaccha viṣṇusamīpaṃ ca bahiḥsthāne sthito bhava 23 ||
हे काम! मैं प्रसन्न हूँ, हे महामते! भयका त्याग करो। विष्णुके समीप जाओ और बाहरके स्थानमें स्थित हो जाओ।
"O Kāma, I am pleased; abandon fear, O great-minded one. Go to Viṣṇu's presence, and remain stationed outside."
हे कामाहं प्रसन्नोऽस्मि (he kāmāhaṃ prasanno'smi) — O Kāma, I am pleasedभयं त्यज महामते (bhayaṃ tyaja mahāmate) — abandon fear, O great-minded oneगच्छ विष्णुसमीपं च (gaccha viṣṇusamīpaṃ ca) — go to the presence of Viṣṇuबहिःस्थाने स्थितो भव (bahiḥsthāne sthito bhava) — and remain stationed outside
२४ तच्छ्रुत्वा शिरसा नत्वा परिक्रम्य स्तुवन्विभुम्। बहिर्गत्वा हरिं देवान् प्रणम्य समुपास्त सः॥ २४
tacchrutvā śirasā natvā parikramya stuvanvibhum | bahirgatvā hariṃ devān praṇamya samupāsta saḥ 24 ||
यह सुनकर, सिरसे प्रणामकर तथा प्रभुकी परिक्रमा करते हुए स्तुतिकर, वे बाहर जाकर विष्णु तथा देवताओंको प्रणामकर उनकी सेवामें उपस्थित हो गये।
Hearing this, bowing his head, circling the lord in praise, he went outside, and, having saluted Hari and the gods, he waited upon them.
तच्छ्रुत्वा शिरसा नत्वा (tacchrutvā śirasā natvā) — hearing this, bowing his headपरिक्रम्य स्तुवन्विभुम् (parikramya stuvanvibhum) — circling round the lord, praising himबहिर्गत्वा हरिं देवान् (bahirgatvā hariṃ devān) — going outside, [and saluting] Hari and the godsप्रणम्य समुपास्त सः (praṇamya samupāsta saḥ) — having bowed, he waited upon them
२५ कामं सम्भाष्य देवाश्च ददुस्तस्मै शुभाशिषम्। विष्णवादयः प्रसन्नास्ते प्रोचुः स्मृत्वा शिवं हृदि॥ २५
kāmaṃ sambhāṣya devāśca dadustasmai śubhāśiṣam | viṣṇavādayaḥ prasannāste procuḥ smṛtvā śivaṃ hṛdi 25 ||
देवताओंने कामसे वार्तालाप करके उन्हें शुभ आशीर्वाद दिया; विष्णु आदि प्रसन्न होकर, हृदयमें शिवका स्मरण करते हुए बोले।
The gods, conversing with Kāma, gave him their auspicious blessing; Viṣṇu and the others, pleased, spoke, calling Śiva to mind in their hearts.
कामं सम्भाष्य देवाश्च (kāmaṃ sambhāṣya devāśca) — the gods, conversing with Kāmaददुस्तस्मै शुभाशिषम् (dadustasmai śubhāśiṣam) — gave him their auspicious blessingविष्णवादयः प्रसन्नास्ते (viṣṇavādayaḥ prasannāste) — Viṣṇu and the rest, pleased,प्रोचुः स्मृत्वा शिवं हृदि (procuḥ smṛtvā śivaṃ hṛdi) — spoke, having called Śiva to mind in their hearts
२६ धन्यस्त्वं स्मर सन्दग्धः शिवेनानुग्रहीकृतः। जीवयामास सत्त्वांशकृपादृष्ट्याखिलेश्वरः॥ २६
dhanyastvaṃ smara sandagdhaḥ śivenānugrahīkṛtaḥ | jīvayāmāsa sattvāṃśakṛpādṛṣṭyākhileśvaraḥ 26 ||
हे स्मर! तुम धन्य हो, जो भस्म होकर भी शिवके द्वारा अनुगृहीत किये गये; अखिलेश्वरने अपने सत्त्वांशरूप कृपादृष्टिसे तुम्हें जीवित कर दिया।
"Blessed are you, O Smara, who, though burnt to ashes, were made an object of Śiva's grace; the lord of all revived you with the compassionate glance of his own being."
धन्यस्त्वं स्मर सन्दग्धः (dhanyastvaṃ smara sandagdhaḥ) — blessed are you, O Smara, though burntशिवेनानुग्रहीकृतः (śivenānugrahīkṛtaḥ) — made an object of grace by Śivaजीवयामास (jīvayāmāsa) — he revived [you]सत्त्वांशकृपादृष्ट्याखिलेश्वरः (sattvāṃśakṛpādṛṣṭyākhileśvaraḥ) — the lord of all, by a compassionate glance [born] of a portion of his own being
२७ सुखदुःखदो न चान्योऽस्ति यतः स्वकृतभुक् पुमान्। काले रक्षा विवाहश्च निषेकः केन वार्यते॥ २७
sukhaduḥkhado na cānyo'sti yataḥ svakṛtabhuk pumān | kāle rakṣā vivāhaśca niṣekaḥ kena vāryate 27 ||
कोई दूसरा सुख-दुःख देनेवाला नहीं है, क्योंकि पुरुष अपने ही किये हुए कर्मका फल भोगता है; समय आनेपर रक्षा, विवाह तथा गर्भाधान होते हैं, इन्हें कौन रोक सकता है?
"There is no other giver of joy or sorrow, for a man reaps only what he himself has done; protection, marriage, and conception come each in their own time — by whom can they be prevented?"
सुखदुःखदो न चान्योऽस्ति (sukhaduḥkhado na cānyo'sti) — there is no other giver of joy and sorrowयतः स्वकृतभुक् पुमान् (yataḥ svakṛtabhuk pumān) — since a man reaps [only] what he himself has doneकाले रक्षा विवाहश्च (kāle rakṣā vivāhaśca) — protection and marriage, in their [own] time,निषेकः केन वार्यते (niṣekaḥ kena vāryate) — and conception — by whom can they be prevented
२८ इत्युक्त्वा ते च सम्मान्य तं सुखेनामरास्तदा। सन्तस्थुस्तत्र विश्वाद्याः सर्वे लब्धमनोरथाः॥ २८
ityuktvā te ca sammānya taṃ sukhenāmarāstadā | santasthustatra viśvādyāḥ sarve labdhamanorathāḥ 28 ||
ऐसा कहकर तथा उनका सम्मान करके, वे देवता वहाँ सुखपूर्वक ठहर गये; विश्वेदेव आदि सभी अपने मनोरथको प्राप्त हो गये।
Having said this, and having honoured him, those immortals remained there at ease; the Viśvedevas and the rest, all with their desires fulfilled.
इत्युक्त्वा ते च सम्मान्य (ityuktvā te ca sammānya) — having said this, and having honouredतं सुखेनामरास्तदा (taṃ sukhenāmarāstadā) — him, those immortals then, at ease,सन्तस्थुस्तत्र विश्वाद्याः (santasthustatra viśvādyāḥ) — remained there — the Viśvedevas and the restसर्वे लब्धमनोरथाः (sarve labdhamanorathāḥ) — all with their desires fulfilled
२९ सोऽपि प्रमुदितस्तत्र समुवास शिवाज्ञया। जयशब्दो नमःशब्दः साधुशब्दो बभूव ह॥ २९
so'pi pramuditastatra samuvāsa śivājñayā | jayaśabdo namaḥśabdaḥ sādhuśabdo babhūva ha 29 ||
वे कामदेव भी अत्यन्त प्रसन्न होकर शिवकी आज्ञासे वहीं निवास करने लगे; उस समय जय-शब्द, नमः-शब्द तथा साधु-शब्द होने लगा।
He too, greatly delighted, dwelt there by Śiva's command; and there arose the cry of "victory", the cry of "homage", and the cry of "well done".
सोऽपि प्रमुदितस्तत्र (so'pi pramuditastatra) — he too, greatly delighted, thereसमुवास शिवाज्ञया (samuvāsa śivājñayā) — dwelt, by Śiva's commandजयशब्दो नमःशब्दः (jayaśabdo namaḥśabdaḥ) — the cry of 'victory', the cry of 'homage',साधुशब्दो बभूव ह (sādhuśabdo babhūva ha) — and the cry of 'well done' arose
३० ततः शम्भुर्वासगेहे वामे संस्थाप्य पार्वतीम्। मिष्टान्नं भोजयामास तं च सा च मुदान्विता॥ ३०
tataḥ śambhurvāsagehe vāme saṃsthāpya pārvatīm | miṣṭānnaṃ bhojayāmāsa taṃ ca sā ca mudānvitā 30 ||
तत्पश्चात् शम्भुने अपने निवासगृहमें पार्वतीको बायीं ओर बैठाकर उन्हें मिष्टान्नका भोजन कराया, और वे भी प्रसन्नतापूर्वक उन्हें भोजन कराने लगीं।
Then Śambhu, in his dwelling, having seated Pārvatī on his left, fed her sweet food; and she, filled with delight, fed him in turn.
ततः शम्भुर्वासगेहे (tataḥ śambhurvāsagehe) — then Śambhu, in his dwelling-house,वामे संस्थाप्य पार्वतीम् (vāme saṃsthāpya pārvatīm) — having seated Pārvatī on his left,मिष्टान्नं भोजयामास (miṣṭānnaṃ bhojayāmāsa) — fed her sweet food,तं च सा च मुदान्विता (taṃ ca sā ca mudānvitā) — and she, delighted, fed him in turn
३१ अथ शम्भुर्भवाचारी तत्र कृत्यं विधाय तत्। मेनामामन्त्र्य शैलं च जनवासं जगाम सः॥ ३१
atha śambhurbhavācārī tatra kṛtyaṃ vidhāya tat | menāmāmantrya śailaṃ ca janavāsaṃ jagāma saḥ 31 ||
इसके बाद लोकाचारका पालन करनेवाले शम्भुने वहाँका कृत्य सम्पन्न करके मेना तथा पर्वतराजसे आज्ञा लेकर जनवासमें प्रस्थान किया।
Then Śambhu, following worldly custom, having performed that rite there, took leave of Menā and the mountain-lord, and went to the guest-lodging.
अथ शम्भुर्भवाचारी (atha śambhurbhavācārī) — then Śambhu, following worldly custom,तत्र कृत्यं विधाय तत् (tatra kṛtyaṃ vidhāya tat) — having there performed that rite,मेनामामन्त्र्य शैलं च (menāmāmantrya śailaṃ ca) — having taken leave of Menā and the mountain-lord,जनवासं जगाम सः (janavāsaṃ jagāma saḥ) — went to the guest-lodging
३२ महोत्सवस्तदा चासीद् वेदध्वनिरभून्मुने। वाद्यानि वादयामासुर्जनाश्चतुर्विधानि च॥ ३२
mahotsavastadā cāsīd vedadhvanirabhūnmune | vādyāni vādayāmāsurjanāścaturvidhāni ca 32 ||
हे मुने! उस समय महोत्सव हुआ और वेदध्वनि होने लगी; लोग चारों प्रकारके वाद्य बजाने लगे।
Then, O sage, there was a great festival, and the sound of the Veda arose; the people played instruments of the four kinds.
महोत्सवस्तदा चासीद् (mahotsavastadā cāsīd) — then there was a great festivalवेदध्वनिरभून्मुने (vedadhvanirabhūnmune) — and the sound of the Veda arose, O sageवाद्यानि वादयामासुः (vādyāni vādayāmāsuḥ) — instruments were playedजनाश्चतुर्विधानि च (janāścaturvidhāni ca) — by the people, of the four kinds
३३ शम्भुरागत्य स्वस्थानं ववन्दे च मुनींस्तदा। हरिं च मां भवाचाराद्वन्दितोऽभूत्सुरादिभिः॥ ३३
śambhurāgatya svasthānaṃ vavande ca munīṃstadā | hariṃ ca māṃ bhavācārādvandito'bhūtsurādibhiḥ 33 ||
शम्भुने अपने स्थानपर आकर उस समय मुनियोंको तथा विष्णु और मुझको प्रणाम किया; और लोकाचारके कारण देवता आदिने भी उनका वन्दन किया।
Śambhu, having come to his own place, then bowed to the sages, and to Hari and to me; and, by the custom of the world, he in turn was honoured by the gods and the rest.
शम्भुरागत्य स्वस्थानं (śambhurāgatya svasthānaṃ) — Śambhu, having come to his own place,ववन्दे च मुनींस्तदा (vavande ca munīṃstadā) — then bowed to the sages,हरिं च मां भवाचारात् (hariṃ ca māṃ bhavācārāt) — and to Hari and to me — and, by worldly custom,वन्दितोऽभूत्सुरादिभिः (vandito'bhūtsurādibhiḥ) — he in turn was honoured by the gods and the rest
३४ जयशब्दो बभूवाथ नमश्शब्दस्तथैव च। वेदध्वनिश्च शुभदः सर्वविघ्नविदारणः॥ ३४
jayaśabdo babhūvātha namaśśabdastathaiva ca | vedadhvaniśca śubhadaḥ sarvavighnavidāraṇaḥ 34 ||
तब जय-शब्द तथा नमः-शब्द हुआ, और सभी विघ्नोंको दूर करनेवाली मंगलमयी वेदध्वनि भी हुई।
Then there arose the cry of "victory", and likewise the cry of "homage", and the auspicious sound of the Veda that tears apart every obstacle.
जयशब्दो बभूवाथ (jayaśabdo babhūvātha) — then arose the cry of 'victory'नमश्शब्दस्तथैव च (namaśśabdastathaiva ca) — and likewise the cry of 'homage'वेदध्वनिश्च शुभदः (vedadhvaniśca śubhadaḥ) — and the auspicious sound of the Vedaसर्वविघ्नविदारणः (sarvavighnavidāraṇaḥ) — that tears apart every obstacle
३५ अथ विष्णुरहं शक्रः सर्वे देवाश्च सर्षयः। सिद्धा उपसुरा नागास्तुष्टुवुस्ते पृथक्पृथक्॥ ३५
atha viṣṇurahaṃ śakraḥ sarve devāśca sarṣayaḥ | siddhā upasurā nāgāstuṣṭuvuste pṛthakpṛthak 35 ||
तब विष्णु, मैं, इन्द्र, ऋषियोंसहित समस्त देवगण, सिद्ध, उपसुर तथा नाग — इन सबने अलग-अलग उनकी स्तुति की।
Then Viṣṇu, I myself, Śakra, all the gods together with the sages, the siddhas, the demigods, and the nāgas — each of them praised him separately.
अथ विष्णुरहं शक्रः (atha viṣṇurahaṃ śakraḥ) — then Viṣṇu, I [Brahmā], Śakra,सर्वे देवाश्च सर्षयः (sarve devāśca sarṣayaḥ) — all the gods, together with the sages,सिद्धा उपसुरा नागाः (siddhā upasurā nāgāḥ) — the siddhas, the demigods, the nāgas —तुष्टुवुस्ते पृथक्पृथक् (tuṣṭuvuste pṛthakpṛthak) — they praised him, each separately
३६ जय शम्भोऽखिलाधार जय नाम महेश्वर। जय रुद्र महादेव जय विश्वम्भर प्रभो॥ ३६
jaya śambho'khilādhāra jaya nāma maheśvara | jaya rudra mahādeva jaya viśvambhara prabho 36 ||
हे शम्भो! हे अखिलाधार! आपकी जय हो। हे महेश्वर! आपकी जय हो। हे रुद्र! हे महादेव! आपकी जय हो। हे विश्वम्भर प्रभो! आपकी जय हो।
"Victory to you, O Śambhu, support of all! Victory, O great lord! Victory, O Rudra, great god! Victory, O sustainer of the universe, O lord!"
जय शम्भोऽखिलाधार (jaya śambho'khilādhāra) — victory, O Śambhu, support of all,जय नाम महेश्वर (jaya nāma maheśvara) — victory, O great lord, of that very name,जय रुद्र महादेव (jaya rudra mahādeva) — victory, O Rudra, great god,जय विश्वम्भर प्रभो (jaya viśvambhara prabho) — victory, O sustainer of the universe, O lord
३७ जय कालीपते स्वामिन् जयानन्दप्रवर्धक। जय त्र्यम्बक सर्वेश जय मायापते विभो॥ ३७
jaya kālīpate svāmin jayānandapravardhaka | jaya tryambaka sarveśa jaya māyāpate vibho 37 ||
हे कालीपते! हे स्वामिन्! आपकी जय हो। हे आनन्दप्रवर्धक! आपकी जय हो। हे त्र्यम्बक! हे सर्वेश! आपकी जय हो। हे मायापते! हे विभो! आपकी जय हो।
"Victory, O lord of Kālī, O master! Victory, O increaser of bliss! Victory, O three-eyed one, lord of all! Victory, O master of Māyā, O mighty one!"
जय कालीपते स्वामिन् (jaya kālīpate svāmin) — victory, O lord of Kālī, O master,जयानन्दप्रवर्धक (jayānandapravardhaka) — victory, O increaser of bliss,जय त्र्यम्बक सर्वेश (jaya tryambaka sarveśa) — victory, O three-eyed one, lord of all,जय मायापते विभो (jaya māyāpate vibho) — victory, O master of Māyā, O mighty one
३८ जय निर्गुण निष्काम कारणातीत सर्वग। जय लीलाखिलाधार धृतरूप नमोऽस्तु ते॥ ३८
jaya nirguṇa niṣkāma kāraṇātīta sarvaga | jaya līlākhilādhāra dhṛtarūpa namo'stu te 38 ||
हे निर्गुण! हे निष्काम! हे कारणातीत! हे सर्वग! आपकी जय हो। हे लीलासे सम्पूर्ण जगत्के आधार तथा रूप धारण करनेवाले! आपको नमस्कार है।
"Victory, O qualityless, desireless one, beyond all causes, all-pervading! Victory, O support of the universe through your sport, who take on form — homage to you!"
जय निर्गुण निष्काम (jaya nirguṇa niṣkāma) — victory, O qualityless, desireless one,कारणातीत सर्वग (kāraṇātīta sarvaga) — O one beyond all causes, all-pervading,जय लीलाखिलाधार (jaya līlākhilādhāra) — victory, O support of all through your sport,धृतरूप नमोऽस्तु ते (dhṛtarūpa namo'stu te) — O bearer of form — homage to you
३९ जय स्वभक्तसत्कामप्रदेश करुणाकर। जय सानन्दसद्रूप जय मायागुणाकृते॥ ३९
jaya svabhaktasatkāmapradeśa karuṇākara | jaya sānandasadrūpa jaya māyāguṇākṛte 39 ||
हे स्वभक्तोंकी सत्-कामनाओंको प्रदान करनेवाले! हे करुणाकर! आपकी जय हो। हे आनन्दयुक्त सद्रूप! आपकी जय हो। हे मायाके गुणोंसे आकृति धारण करनेवाले! आपकी जय हो।
"Victory, O grantor of your own devotees' good desires, O fount of compassion! Victory, O one of blissful, true form! Victory, O you who take on shape through the qualities of Māyā!"

४० जयोग्र मृड सर्वात्मन् दीनबन्धो दयानिधे। जयाविकार मायेश वाङ्मनोऽतीतविग्रह॥ ४०

हे उग्र! हे मृड! हे सर्वात्मन्! हे दीनबन्धो! हे दयानिधे! आपकी जय हो। हे अविकार! हे मायेश! हे वाणी-मनसे अतीत स्वरूपवाले! आपकी जय हो।
"Victory, O fierce one, O gentle one, O soul of all, O friend of the lowly, O treasury of mercy! Victory, O changeless lord of Māyā, whose form is beyond speech and mind!"

४१ इति स्तुत्वा महेशानं गिरिजानायकं प्रभुम्। सिषेविरे परप्रीत्या विश्ववाद्यास्ते यथोचितम्॥ ४१
iti stutvā maheśānaṃ girijānāyakaṃ prabhum | siṣevire paraprītyā viśvavādyāste yathocitam 41 ||
इस प्रकार गिरिजानायक महेशान प्रभुकी स्तुति करके, विश्वेदेव आदि उन सभी देवताओंने परम प्रीतिसे यथोचित रीतिसे उनकी सेवा की।
Having thus praised the great lord Maheśāna, the leader of Girijā, all of them — the Viśvedevas and the rest — waited upon him with great love, as was fitting.
इति स्तुत्वा महेशानं (iti stutvā maheśānaṃ) — having thus praised the great lord Maheśāna,गिरिजानायकं प्रभुम् (girijānāyakaṃ prabhum) — the leader of Girijā, the lord,सिषेविरे परप्रीत्या (siṣevire paraprītyā) — they waited upon him with great love —विश्ववाद्यास्ते यथोचितम् (viśvavādyāste yathocitam) — those Viśvedevas and the rest, as was fitting
४२ अथ शम्भुर्महेशानो लीलात्ततनुरीश्वरः। ददौ मानवरं तेषां सर्वेषां तत्र नारद॥ ४२
atha śambhurmaheśāno līlāttatanurīśvaraḥ | dadau mānavaraṃ teṣāṃ sarveṣāṃ tatra nārada 42 ||
हे नारद! तब लीलासे शरीर धारण करनेवाले महेशान शम्भुने वहाँ उन सभी देवताओंको सम्मानरूप वर प्रदान किया।
Then Śambhu Maheśāna, the lord who has taken a body through his own sport, O Nārada, granted the gift of his gracious regard to all of them there.
अथ शम्भुर्महेशानो (atha śambhurmaheśāno) — then Śambhu Maheśāna,लीलात्ततनुरीश्वरः (līlāttatanurīśvaraḥ) — the lord who has taken a body through his own sport,ददौ मानवरं तेषां (dadau mānavaraṃ teṣāṃ) — granted the gift of honour to them,सर्वेषां तत्र नारद (sarveṣāṃ tatra nārada) — to all of them there, O Nārada
४३ विश्ववाद्यास्तेऽखिलास्तात प्राप्याज्ञां परमेशितुः। अतिहृष्टाः प्रसन्नास्याः स्वस्थानं जग्मुरादृताः॥ ४३
viśvavādyāste'khilāstāta prāpyājñāṃ parameśituḥ | atihṛṣṭāḥ prasannāsyāḥ svasthānaṃ jagmurādṛtāḥ 43 ||
हे तात! वे विश्वेदेव आदि सभी देवता परमेश्वरकी आज्ञा पाकर अत्यन्त हर्षित तथा प्रसन्नमुख होकर सम्मानपूर्वक अपने-अपने स्थानको चले गये।
Those Viśvedevas and all the rest, O father, having received the command of the supreme lord, greatly delighted and joyful of face, went, duly honoured, to their own abodes.
विश्ववाद्यास्तेऽखिलास्तात (viśvavādyāste'khilāstāta) — those Viśvedevas and all the rest, O father,प्राप्याज्ञां परमेशितुः (prāpyājñāṃ parameśituḥ) — having received the command of the supreme lord,अतिहृष्टाः प्रसन्नास्याः (atihṛṣṭāḥ prasannāsyāḥ) — greatly delighted, their faces joyful,स्वस्थानं जग्मुरादृताः (svasthānaṃ jagmurādṛtāḥ) — went, honoured, to their own abodes
इति श्रीशिवमहापुराणे ब्रह्मनारदसंवादे द्वितीयायां रुद्रसंहितायां तृतीये पार्वतीखण्डे कामसंजीवनवर्णनं नामैकपञ्चाशत्तमोऽध्यायः॥ ५१॥
Thus ends the fifty-first chapter, called "The Description of the Revival of Kāma," in the dialogue of Brahmā and Nārada, in the Pārvatī-khaṇḍa of the second Rudra-saṃhitā, in the glorious Śiva Mahāpurāṇa.
इस प्रकार श्रीशिवमहापुराणके अन्तर्गत ब्रह्मा-नारदसंवादमें द्वितीय रुद्रसंहिताके तृतीय पार्वतीखण्डमें कामसंजीवनवर्णन नामक इक्यावनवाँ अध्याय पूर्ण हुआ॥ ५१॥
