Brahmā continues his narration to Nārada: the brāhmaṇī, having finished teaching the goddess the pativratā-vrata, told Menā to see to Pārvatī's send-off; Menā, overcome with love, called Kālī and, distraught at the coming separation, wept aloud, embracing her daughter again and again. Pārvatī too wept loudly, uttering words of compassion, and the mountain-dear Śivā swooned in grief; the wives of the gods swooned along with her, all the women wept, and everything seemed to lose consciousness, while even the great Yogīśvara himself wept as he was about to depart — for who else could be greater than him? At that moment Himālaya arrived swiftly with all his sons, ministers, and other brāhmaṇas, and himself wept in bewilderment, clasping his daughter to his chest and crying out again and again, "Where are you going?" Then the family priest, wiser through spiritual knowledge, comforted everyone with the help of the brāhmaṇas. Pārvatī reverently bowed to her mother, father, and preceptor, and the great Māyā, in accordance with worldly custom, wept aloud again and again; at her weeping all the women wept, above all her mother Menā and her sisters-in-law and brothers. Then the brāhmaṇas came and consoled them, announcing that the auspicious hour most conducive to the journey had arrived. Himālaya, steadying Menā with resolve born of discernment, had a palanquin brought for Śivā to mount; the wives of the brāhmaṇas helped her onto it there, and all — father, mother, and the brāhmaṇas — gave their blessings. Menā and the mountain-lord bestowed queenly gifts and heaps of manifold precious articles, rare even for others. Śivā, bowing to all her elders, her father and mother, the brāhmaṇas and the family priest, then set out together with her sisters-in-law and other women, O sage. Himācala too, wise and overcome with affection, went along with his sons, and they reached the place where the Lord, delighted, was waiting together with the gods; all embraced one another lovingly amid great festivity, and bowed to the Lord with devotion, praising him, as they entered the city. There the Lord, recalling their past births together, reminded Pārvatī of their eternal love in play, calling her his ever-beloved goddess; and Pārvatī, the eternally devoted consort of Śaṅkara, hearing her lord Maheśa's words, smilingly replied that she remembered everything and, falling silent as befitted the moment, asked him to proceed swiftly with what was fitting. Hearing his beloved's words, sweet as streams of nectar, the Lord of the universe, ever attentive to worldly custom, rejoiced exceedingly. Śiva, having gathered all due provisions, fed Nārāyaṇa and the other gods with a wondrous variety of delightful foods, and likewise lovingly fed all the other guests who had come for his wedding with abundant and excellent dishes. Then the gods, adorned with many jewels, having eaten, together with their wives and attendants, bowed to the moon-crested Lord; having praised him with cherished words and joyfully circumambulated him, they departed praising the wedding, each to his own abode. Nārāyaṇa and I, says Brahmā, were bowed to by Śiva himself, following worldly custom, just as Viṣṇu had bowed to Kaśyapa; embracing me, he gave his blessing, and again, before Viṣṇu, considering him the supreme Brahman, he offered excellent praise. Then, taking leave of him, Viṣṇu, with joined hands, joyfully praised that wedding of Śiva and departed to his own supreme abode. Śiva himself remained on his own mountain, sporting joyfully with Pārvatī, and all his attendants attained the utmost happiness, devotedly serving the divine couple. Thus, O dear one, has been narrated this most auspicious wedding of Śiva, which destroys sorrow, generates joy, bestows long life, and increases wealth. Whoever hears this constantly with a pure mind fixed upon it, or causes it to be recited according to the proper rule, attains the world of Śiva. This wondrous account, a source of auspiciousness, has been narrated — it pacifies every obstacle and destroys every disease. It brings fame, heaven, and long life, bestows sons and grandsons, grants every desire here, and ever confers both worldly enjoyment and final liberation. It pacifies untimely death, brings great peace and auspiciousness, dispels every evil dream, and is a means to wisdom and understanding. It should be diligently recited at every festival of Śiva by people desirous of good fortune, out of devotion, for it is the cause of Śiva's pleasure. It should especially be recited at the time of consecration of the gods and the like, and with great devotion at the commencement of every undertaking of Śiva. Whoever, having become pure, hears or recites this auspicious story of Śiva and Śivā, all his undertakings succeed — this is true, truly true, there is no doubt.
