रुद्रसंहिता — कुमारखण्डअथ द्वादशोऽध्यायः
Brahmā continues his narration to Nārada: having seen Tāraka slain, the gods led by Viṣṇu praised Kumāra with devotion, hailing him by many epithets as slayer of great daityas and protector of the afflicted; well pleased, Kumāra granted them boons one by one, and then, turning to the mountains who had also praised him, gladly granted that they should ever be worshipped by ascetics, ritualists, and knowers alike, that they should stand as Śiva's own special and liṅga forms, and that his maternal grandfather Himavat, greatest of mountains, should become a bestower of fruits upon ascetics. The gods, now made happy in every being, moving and unmoving, besought Kumāra to go with them to Kailāsa to see his parents; so, with Brahmā's leave, all the gods, with Kumāra, set out for the mountain amid great celebration, Kumāra riding a resplendent chariot fanned by Brahmā and Viṣṇu themselves while Indra and the other gods attended him on every side, and reached Śiva's mountain amid auspicious sounds and cries of victory. There Kumāra bowed to Śiva and to Pārvatī seated on her throne; father and mother, overjoyed at the sight of their beloved son, lifted him onto their laps, smelled his head, and kissed his face in turn, amid a great festival of wonders in Śiva's abode. Then the gods and sages, bowing again to Śiva together with Pārvatī, offered him a long hymn of praise, extolling him under countless epithets and forms — as the world's creator, sustainer, and destroyer, as the source of all beings past, present, and future, as the syllable Oṃ of all the Vedas, as the very best among mountains, stars, sages, and gods — and confessing that they, of dull understanding, did not truly know how to worship or invoke him, nor grasp his wondrous ways. Pleased and smiling at their praise, Śiva himself spoke, declaring himself ever the protector and refuge of the virtuous and of the gods, the destroyer of the wicked, without change, and bade them turn to him in devotion whenever sorrow should befall them for the sake of their happiness. Thus commanded, the gods and sages, having bowed to Pārvatī, Śiva, and Kumāra, departed rejoicing to their own abodes, praising the delightful fame of the divine parents and their son; and Śiva himself, with Pārvatī and his gaṇas, dwelt joyfully together with Kumāra on that mountain. Brahmā concludes: thus has the whole delightful, divine story of Kumāra and of Śiva been told. ब्रह्माजी नारदजीको आगेकी कथा सुनाते हैं — तारकको मरा हुआ देखकर विष्णु आदि देवताओंने भक्तिपूर्वक कुमारकी स्तुति की और उन्हें अनेक विशेषणोंसे सम्बोधित किया; प्रसन्न होकर कुमारने सबको क्रमशः नये-नये वर दिये, और अपनी स्तुति करते पर्वतोंको देखकर उन्हें भी वरदान दिया कि वे सदा तपस्वियों, कर्मकाण्डियों तथा ज्ञानियोंसे पूजित रहेंगे, शिवके विशिष्ट तथा लिंगरूपमें प्रतिष्ठित होंगे, और उनके नाना हिमालय पर्वतोत्तम तपस्वियोंको फल देनेवाले होंगे। सुखी हुए देवताओंने कुमारसे कैलास चलकर माता-पिताके दर्शन करनेकी प्रार्थना की; ब्रह्माजीकी आज्ञासे सब देवता कुमारको लेकर बड़े महोत्सवके साथ कैलासकी ओर चले, जहाँ ब्रह्मा और विष्णु स्वयं चामर ढुलाते तथा इन्द्रादि देवता सेवा करते हुए साथ गये। कैलासपर पहुँचकर कुमारने सिंहासनस्थित पार्वती और शिवको प्रणाम किया; अपने प्रिय पुत्रको देखकर शिव-पार्वती अत्यन्त आनन्दित हुए, उसे गोदमें बिठाया, सिर सूँघा और मुख चूमा, और शिवके धाममें बड़ा उत्सव मनाया गया। इसके पश्चात् विष्णु आदि देवताओं तथा मुनियोंने शिव-पार्वतीको प्रणामकर एक विस्तृत स्तुति की, जिसमें उन्हें सृष्टिकर्ता, भर्ता, संहर्ता, सभी भूतोंके उद्गम, सब वेदोंके ॐकाररूप तथा पर्वतों-नक्षत्रों-ऋषियों-देवोंमें श्रेष्ठ बताते हुए यह स्वीकार किया कि वे मूढ़बुद्धि उनकी सनातन पूजाविधि और अद्भुत गतिको नहीं जानते। स्तुति सुनकर प्रसन्न शिवजीने स्वयं कहा कि वे सदा सज्जनों तथा देवताओंके रक्षक, दुष्टोंके संहारक तथा निर्विकार हैं, और जब-जब दुःख हो तब-तब देवता उन्हींका भजन करें। तदनुसार देवगण पार्वती, शिव तथा कुमारको प्रणामकर आनन्दपूर्वक अपने-अपने धाम लौट गये, और शिवजी पार्वती तथा गणोंसहित कुमारके साथ उस पर्वतपर प्रसन्नतापूर्वक निवास करने लगे। ब्रह्माजी कहते हैं कि इस प्रकार कुमार तथा शिवका यह सम्पूर्ण सुखद, दिव्य चरित्र कह दिया गया।
१ निहतं तारकं दृष्ट्वा देवा विष्णुपुरोगमाः। तुष्टुवुः शाङ्करिं भक्त्या सर्वेऽन्ये मुदिताननाः॥ १
nihataṃ tārakaṃ dṛṣṭvā devā viṣṇupurogamāḥ | tuṣṭuvuḥ śāṅkariṃ bhaktyā sarve'nye muditānanāḥ 1 ||
तारकको मरा हुआ देखकर विष्णु आदि देवता तथा अन्य सभी लोग प्रसन्नमुख होकर भक्तिपूर्वक शंकरपुत्रकी स्तुति करने लगे।
Having seen Tāraka slain, the gods headed by Viṣṇu, and all the others too, their faces filled with joy, praised the son of Śaṅkara with devotion.
निहतं तारकं दृष्ट्वा (nihataṃ tārakaṃ dṛṣṭvā) — having seen Tāraka slainदेवा विष्णुपुरोगमाः (devā viṣṇupurogamāḥ) — the gods, headed by Viṣṇuतुष्टुवुः शाङ्करिं भक्त्या (tuṣṭuvuḥ śāṅkariṃ bhaktyā) — praised the son of Śaṅkara with devotionसर्वेऽन्ये मुदिताननाः (sarve'nye muditānanāḥ) — as did all the others, their faces filled with joy
२ नमः कल्याणरूपाय नमस्ते विश्वमङ्गल। विश्वबन्धो नमस्तेऽस्तु नमस्ते विश्वभावन॥ २

हे कल्याणरूप! आपको नमस्कार है। हे विश्वमंगल! आपको नमस्कार है। हे विश्वबन्धो! आपको नमस्कार हो। हे विश्वभावन! आपको नमस्कार है।
"Salutation to you of the auspicious form; salutation to you, O well-being of the universe. O kinsman of the universe, let there be salutation to you; salutation to you, O nourisher of the universe."
नमः कल्याणरूपाय (namaḥ kalyāṇarūpāya) — "salutation to you of the auspicious formनमस्ते विश्वमङ्गल (namaste viśvamaṅgala) — salutation to you, O well-being of the universeविश्वबन्धो नमस्तेऽस्तु (viśvabandho namaste'stu) — let there be salutation to you, O kinsman of the universeनमस्ते विश्वभावन (namaste viśvabhāvana) — salutation to you, O nourisher of the universe"
३ नमोस्तु ते दानववर्यहन्त्रे बाणासुरप्राणहराय देव। प्रलम्बनाशाय पवित्ररूपिणे नमोनमः शङ्करतात तुभ्यम्॥ ३
namostu te dānavavaryahantre bāṇāsuraprāṇaharāya deva | pralambanāśāya pavitrarūpiṇe namonamaḥ śaṅkaratāta tubhyam 3 ||
बड़े-बड़े दानवोंका वध करनेवाले, बाणासुरके प्राणका हरण करनेवाले तथा प्रलम्बासुरका नाश करनेवाले हे देव! हे पवित्ररूप! हे शंकरपुत्र! आपको बार-बार नमस्कार है।
"Salutation to you, slayer of the foremost dānavas, taker of the asura Bāṇa's life, O god; destroyer of Pralamba, O one of pure form — salutation, salutation to you, O child of Śaṅkara."
Noteबाणासुर and प्रलम्ब here refer to Kārtikeya's own well-known slayings of these asuras in the wider Purāṇic corpus, not to Viṣṇu's epithets; kept as proper names, addressed to Kumāra as the one being praised in this verse.

४ त्वमेव कर्त्ता जगतां च भर्त्ता त्वमेव हर्त्ता शुचिज प्रसीद। प्रपञ्चभूतस्तव लोकबिम्बः प्रसीद शम्भ्वात्मज दीनबन्धो॥ ४
tvameva karttā jagatāṃ ca bharttā tvameva harttā śucija prasīda | prapañcabhūtastava lokabimbaḥ prasīda śambhvātmaja dīnabandho 4 ||
आप ही इस जगत्के कर्ता, भर्ता तथा हर्ता हैं, हे पवित्रजात! आप प्रसन्न होइये। यह दृश्यमान संसार आपका ही प्रतिबिम्ब है; हे शम्भुपुत्र! हे दीनबन्धो! प्रसन्न होइये।
"You alone are the maker and sustainer of the worlds; you alone are their destroyer, O pure-born one — be gracious. This visible universe is but a reflection of you; be gracious, O son of Śambhu, O kinsman of the humble."
त्वमेव कर्त्ता जगतां च भर्त्ता (tvameva karttā jagatāṃ ca bharttā) — "you alone are the maker and sustainer of the worldsत्वमेव हर्त्ता शुचिज प्रसीद (tvameva harttā śucija prasīda) — you alone are their destroyer, O pure-born one, be graciousप्रपञ्चभूतस्तव लोकबिम्बः (prapañcabhūtastava lokabimbaḥ) — this visible universe is a reflection of youप्रसीद शम्भ्वात्मज दीनबन्धो (prasīda śambhvātmaja dīnabandho) — be gracious, O son of Śambhu, O kinsman of the humble"
५ देवरक्षाकर स्वामिन् रक्ष नः सर्वदा प्रभो। देवप्राणावनकर प्रसीद करुणाकर॥ ५
devarakṣākara svāmin rakṣa naḥ sarvadā prabho | devaprāṇāvanakara prasīda karuṇākara 5 ||
हे देवरक्षक! हे स्वामिन्! हे प्रभो! हमलोगोंकी सर्वदा रक्षा कीजिये। हे देवताओंके प्राणकी रक्षा करनेवाले! हे करुणाकर! प्रसन्न होइये।
"O protector of the gods, O lord, protect us always, O master; O guardian of the gods' very lives, be gracious, O fount of compassion."
देवरक्षाकर स्वामिन् (devarakṣākara svāmin) — "O protector of the gods, O lordरक्ष नः सर्वदा प्रभो (rakṣa naḥ sarvadā prabho) — protect us always, O masterदेवप्राणावनकर (devaprāṇāvanakara) — O guardian of the gods' very livesप्रसीद करुणाकर (prasīda karuṇākara) — be gracious, O fount of compassion"
६ हत्वा त्वं तारकं दैत्यं परिवारयुतं विभो। मोचिताः सकला देवा विपद्भ्यः परमेश्वर॥ ६
hatvā tvaṃ tārakaṃ daityaṃ parivārayutaṃ vibho | mocitāḥ sakalā devā vipadbhyaḥ parameśvara 6 ||
हे विभो! परिवारसहित तारक दैत्यका वध करके आपने सभी देवताओंको विपत्तियोंसे मुक्त कर दिया, हे परमेश्वर!
"Having slain the daitya Tāraka together with his retinue, O all-pervading lord, all we gods have been freed from calamity, O supreme lord."
हत्वा त्वं तारकं दैत्यं (hatvā tvaṃ tārakaṃ daityaṃ) — "having slain the daitya Tārakaपरिवारयुतं विभो (parivārayutaṃ vibho) — together with his retinue, O all-pervading lordमोचिताः सकला देवा (mocitāḥ sakalā devā) — all the gods have been freedविपद्भ्यः परमेश्वर (vipadbhyaḥ parameśvara) — from calamity, O supreme lord"
७ एवं स्तुतः कुमारोऽसौ देवैर्विष्णुमुखैः प्रभुः। वरान्ददावभिनवान्सर्वेभ्यः क्रमशो मुने॥ ७
evaṃ stutaḥ kumāro'sau devairviṣṇumukhaiḥ prabhuḥ | varāndadāvabhinavānsarvebhyaḥ kramaśo mune 7 ||
हे मुने! इस प्रकार विष्णु आदि देवताओंके द्वारा स्तुत हुए प्रभु कुमारने सबको क्रमशः नये-नये वर दिये।
Thus praised by the gods headed by Viṣṇu, O sage, that lord Kumāra granted fresh boons to all of them, one after another.
एवं स्तुतः कुमारोऽसौ (evaṃ stutaḥ kumāro'sau) — thus praised, that lord Kumāraदेवैर्विष्णुमुखैः प्रभुः (devairviṣṇumukhaiḥ prabhuḥ) — by the gods headed by Viṣṇuवरान्ददावभिनवान्सर्वेभ्यः (varāndadāvabhinavānsarvebhyaḥ) — granted fresh boons to all of themक्रमशो मुने (kramaśo mune) — one after another, O sage
८ शैलान्निरीक्ष्य स्तुवतस्ततःस गिरिशात्मजः। सुप्रसन्नतरो भूत्वा प्रोवाच प्रददद्वरान्॥ ८
śailānnirīkṣya stuvatastataḥsa giriśātmajaḥ | suprasannataro bhūtvā provāca pradadadvarān 8 ||
तत्पश्चात् अपनी स्तुति करते हुए पर्वतोंको देखकर वे गिरिशात्मज कुमार अत्यन्त प्रसन्न होकर वर देते हुए बोले।
Then, having looked upon the mountains as they praised him, that son of the Mountain-lord [Śiva], becoming exceedingly pleased, spoke, granting them boons.
शैलान्निरीक्ष्य स्तुवतः (śailānnirīkṣya stuvataḥ) — then, having looked upon the mountains, praising himततःस गिरिशात्मजः (tataḥsa giriśātmajaḥ) — that son of the Mountain-lord [Śiva]सुप्रसन्नतरो भूत्वा (suprasannataro bhūtvā) — having become exceedingly pleasedप्रोवाच प्रददद्वरान् (provāca pradadadvarān) — spoke, granting them boons
९ यूयं सर्वे पर्वता हि पूजनीयास्तपस्विभिः। कर्मिभिर्ज्ञानिभिश्चैव सेव्यमाना भविष्यथ॥ ९
yūyaṃ sarve parvatā hi pūjanīyāstapasvibhiḥ | karmibhirjñānibhiścaiva sevyamānā bhaviṣyatha 9 ||
तुम सभी पर्वत तपस्वियों, कर्मकाण्डियों तथा ज्ञानियोंसे सदा पूजित एवं सेवित रहोगे।
"All you mountains shall be worthy of worship by ascetics, and shall become ever attended upon by ritualists and knowers alike."
यूयं सर्वे पर्वता हि (yūyaṃ sarve parvatā hi) — "you, all you mountains,पूजनीयास्तपस्विभिः (pūjanīyāstapasvibhiḥ) — shall be worthy of worship by asceticsकर्मिभिर्ज्ञानिभिश्चैव (karmibhirjñānibhiścaiva) — and by ritualists and knowers alikeसेव्यमाना भविष्यथ (sevyamānā bhaviṣyatha) — you shall become ever attended upon"
१० शम्भोर्विशिष्टरूपाणि लिङ्गरूपाणि चैव हि। भविष्यथ न सन्देहः पर्वता वचनान्मम॥ १०
śambhorviśiṣṭarūpāṇi liṅgarūpāṇi caiva hi | bhaviṣyatha na sandehaḥ parvatā vacanānmama 10 ||
हे पर्वतो! मेरे इस वचनसे तुमलोग शिवके विशिष्ट रूप तथा उनके लिंगरूपसे प्रतिष्ठित रहोगे, इसमें सन्देह नहीं है।
"By this word of mine, O mountains, you shall become Śambhu's own special forms, and indeed his liṅga-forms too — there is no doubt of it."
शम्भोर्विशिष्टरूपाणि (śambhorviśiṣṭarūpāṇi) — "[you shall become] Śambhu's own special formsलिङ्गरूपाणि चैव हि (liṅgarūpāṇi caiva hi) — and indeed his liṅga-forms tooभविष्यथ न सन्देहः (bhaviṣyatha na sandehaḥ) — you shall become — there is no doubt of itपर्वता वचनान्मम (parvatā vacanānmama) — O mountains, by this word of mine"
११ योऽयं मातामहो मेऽद्य हिमवान्पर्वतोत्तमः। तपस्विनां महाभागः फलदो हि भविष्यति॥ ११
yo'yaṃ mātāmaho me'dya himavānparvatottamaḥ | tapasvināṃ mahābhāgaḥ phalado hi bhaviṣyati 11 ||
जो ये पर्वतोत्तम महाभाग हिमालय आज मेरे नाना हैं, वे तपस्वियोंको फल देनेवाले होंगे।
"This one who is today my maternal grandfather — Himavat, the best of mountains, that most fortunate one — shall indeed become a bestower of fruit to ascetics."
योऽयं मातामहो मेऽद्य (yo'yaṃ mātāmaho me'dya) — "this one who today is my maternal grandfatherहिमवान्पर्वतोत्तमः (himavānparvatottamaḥ) — Himavat, the best of mountainsतपस्विनां महाभागः (tapasvināṃ mahābhāgaḥ) — that most fortunate one, to asceticsफलदो हि भविष्यति (phalado hi bhaviṣyati) — shall indeed become a bestower of fruit"
१२ एवं दत्त्वा वरान् हत्वा तारकं चासुराधिपम्। त्वया कृताश्च सुखिनो वयं सर्वे चराचराः॥ १२
evaṃ dattvā varān hatvā tārakaṃ cāsurādhipam | tvayā kṛtāśca sukhino vayaṃ sarve carācarāḥ 12 ||
इस प्रकार वर देकर तथा असुराधिप तारकका वध करके आपने चराचरसहित हम सबको सुखी कर दिया है।
"Thus, having granted boons and slain Tāraka, lord of the asuras, you have made happy all of us, every moving and unmoving being."
एवं दत्त्वा वरान् हत्वा (evaṃ dattvā varān hatvā) — "thus having given boons, and having slainतारकं चासुराधिपम् (tārakaṃ cāsurādhipam) — Tāraka, the lord of the asurasत्वया कृताश्च सुखिनो (tvayā kṛtāśca sukhino) — you have made happyवयं सर्वे चराचराः (vayaṃ sarve carācarāḥ) — all of us, moving and unmoving beings"
१३ इदानीं खलु सुप्रीत्या कैलासं गिरिशालयम्। जननी जनकौ द्रष्टुं शिवाशम्भू त्वमर्हसि॥ १३
idānīṃ khalu suprītyā kailāsaṃ giriśālayam | jananī janakau draṣṭuṃ śivāśambhū tvamarhasi 13 ||
अब आप बड़े प्रेमसे अपने माता-पिता शिवा और शंभुके दर्शनके लिये गिरिशके धाम कैलासको जाइये।
"Now, indeed, with great love, you ought to go to Kailāsa, the abode of the Mountain-lord, to see your mother and father, Śivā and Śambhu."
इदानीं खलु सुप्रीत्या (idānīṃ khalu suprītyā) — "now indeed, with great loveकैलासं गिरिशालयम् (kailāsaṃ giriśālayam) — to Kailāsa, the abode of the Mountain-lordजननी जनकौ द्रष्टुं (jananī janakau draṣṭuṃ) — to see your mother and fatherशिवाशम्भू त्वमर्हसि (śivāśambhū tvamarhasi) — Śivā and Śambhu — you ought [to go]"
१४ इत्युक्त्वा निखिला देवा विष्ण्वाद्याः प्राप्तशासनाः। कृत्वा महोत्सवं भूरि सकुमारा ययुर्गिरिम्॥ १४
ityuktvā nikhilā devā viṣṇvādyāḥ prāptaśāsanāḥ | kṛtvā mahotsavaṃ bhūri sakumārā yayurgirim 14 ||
ऐसा कहकर विष्णु आदि सभी देवता आज्ञा पाकर बड़ा भारी महोत्सव करते हुए कुमारको साथ लेकर पर्वतकी ओर चले।
Having thus spoken, all the gods headed by Viṣṇu, having received their leave, made a great celebration and set out for the mountain together with Kumāra.
इत्युक्त्वा निखिला देवा (ityuktvā nikhilā devā) — having thus spoken, all the godsविष्ण्वाद्याः प्राप्तशासनाः (viṣṇvādyāḥ prāptaśāsanāḥ) — headed by Viṣṇu, having received their leave [from Brahmā]कृत्वा महोत्सवं भूरि (kṛtvā mahotsavaṃ bhūri) — having made a great celebrationसकुमारा ययुर्गिरिम् (sakumārā yayurgirim) — set out for the mountain, together with Kumāra
१५ कुमारे गच्छति विभौ कैलासं शङ्करालयम्। महामङ्गलमुत्तस्थौ जयशब्दो बभूव ह॥ १५
kumāre gacchati vibhau kailāsaṃ śaṅkarālayam | mahāmaṅgalamuttasthau jayaśabdo babhūva ha 15 ||
सर्वव्यापक कुमारके कैलास (शंकरके धाम) की ओर जाते समय महामंगल छा गया और जय-जयकारका शब्द होने लगा।
As the all-pervading Kumāra went toward Kailāsa, Śaṅkara's abode, great auspiciousness arose, and the shout of victory resounded.
कुमारे गच्छति विभौ (kumāre gacchati vibhau) — as the all-pervading Kumāra wentकैलासं शङ्करालयम् (kailāsaṃ śaṅkarālayam) — toward Kailāsa, Śaṅkara's abodeमहामङ्गलमुत्तस्थौ (mahāmaṅgalamuttasthau) — great auspiciousness aroseजयशब्दो बभूव ह (jayaśabdo babhūva ha) — and the shout of victory resounded
१६ आरुरोह कुमारोऽसौ विमानं परमर्द्धिमत्। सर्वतोलङ्कृतं रम्यं सर्वोपरि विराजितम्॥ १६
āruroha kumāro'sau vimānaṃ paramarddhimat | sarvatolaṅkṛtaṃ ramyaṃ sarvopari virājitam 16 ||
वे कुमार सम्पूर्ण ऋद्धियोंसे युक्त, सब ओरसे अलंकृत, मनोहर तथा सबसे ऊपर विराजमान विमानपर चढ़े।
That Kumāra mounted an aerial chariot of the greatest splendour, adorned on every side, delightful, and shining above all.
आरुरोह कुमारोऽसौ (āruroha kumāro'sau) — that Kumāra mountedविमानं परमर्द्धिमत् (vimānaṃ paramarddhimat) — an aerial chariot possessed of the greatest splendourसर्वतोलङ्कृतं रम्यं (sarvatolaṅkṛtaṃ ramyaṃ) — adorned on every side, delightfulसर्वोपरि विराजितम् (sarvopari virājitam) — and shining above all
१७ अहं विष्णुश्च समुदौ तदा चामरधारिणौ। गुह मूर्ध्नि महाप्रीत्या मुनेऽभूवं ह्यतन्द्रितौ॥ १७
ahaṃ viṣṇuśca samudau tadā cāmaradhāriṇau | guha mūrdhni mahāprītyā mune'bhūvaṃ hyatandritau 17 ||
हे मुने! उस समय मैं और विष्णु दोनों बड़ी सावधानी तथा प्रेमपूर्वक गुहके सिरपर चामर ढुलाने लगे।
O sage, I and Viṣṇu, the two of us together, then became his tireless attendants, holding the chowries over Guha's head with great affection.
अहं विष्णुश्च समुदौ (ahaṃ viṣṇuśca samudau) — I and Viṣṇu, the two of us togetherतदा चामरधारिणौ (tadā cāmaradhāriṇau) — then, holding the chowriesगुह मूर्ध्नि महाप्रीत्या (guha mūrdhni mahāprītyā) — over Guha's head, with great affectionमुनेऽभूवं ह्यतन्द्रितौ (mune'bhūvaṃ hyatandritau) — became, O sage, tireless [attendants]
१८ इन्द्राद्या अमराः सर्वे कुर्वन्तो गुहसेवनम्। यथोचितं चतुर्दिक्षु जग्मुश्च प्रमुदास्तदा॥ १८
indrādyā amarāḥ sarve kurvanto guhasevanam | yathocitaṃ caturdikṣu jagmuśca pramudāstadā 18 ||
इन्द्रादि सभी देवता चारों ओरसे यथोचित रूपमें गुहकी सेवा करते हुए उस समय प्रसन्नतापूर्वक चलने लगे।
All the immortals headed by Indra, performing fitting service to Guha on every side, went along then, rejoicing.
इन्द्राद्या अमराः सर्वे (indrādyā amarāḥ sarve) — all the immortals headed by Indraकुर्वन्तो गुहसेवनम् (kurvanto guhasevanam) — performing service to Guhaयथोचितं चतुर्दिक्षु (yathocitaṃ caturdikṣu) — fittingly, on the four sidesजग्मुश्च प्रमुदास्तदा (jagmuśca pramudāstadā) — went then, rejoicing
१९ शम्भोर्जयं प्रभाषन्तः प्रापुस्ते शम्भुपर्वतम्। सानन्दा विविशुस्तत्रोच्चरितो मङ्गलध्वनिः॥ १९
śambhorjayaṃ prabhāṣantaḥ prāpuste śambhuparvatam | sānandā viviśustatroccarito maṅgaladhvaniḥ 19 ||
शिवजीकी जय-जयकार करते हुए वे शिवपर्वत (कैलास) पर पहुँचे और आनन्दपूर्वक मंगलध्वनि करते हुए वहाँ प्रविष्ट हुए।
Proclaiming victory to Śambhu, they reached Śambhu's mountain, and, joyful, entered it as an auspicious sound was raised.
शम्भोर्जयं प्रभाषन्तः (śambhorjayaṃ prabhāṣantaḥ) — proclaiming victory to Śambhuप्रापुस्ते शम्भुपर्वतम् (prāpuste śambhuparvatam) — they reached Śambhu's mountainसानन्दा विविशुस्तत्र (sānandā viviśustatra) — and, joyful, entered thereउच्चरितो मङ्गलध्वनिः (uccarito maṅgaladhvaniḥ) — as an auspicious sound was raised
२० दृष्ट्वा शिवं शिवां चैव सर्वे विष्ण्वादयो द्रुतम्। प्रणम्य शङ्करं भक्त्या करौ बद्ध्वा विनम्रकाः॥ २०
dṛṣṭvā śivaṃ śivāṃ caiva sarve viṣṇvādayo drutam | praṇamya śaṅkaraṃ bhaktyā karau baddhvā vinamrakāḥ 20 ||
शिव-शिवाको देखकर विष्णु आदि सभी देवता शीघ्रतासे भक्तिपूर्वक शंकरको प्रणामकर हाथ जोड़कर विनम्र हो गये।
Having seen Śiva and Śivā, all of them, headed by Viṣṇu, swiftly bowed to Śaṅkara with devotion, joining their hands humbly.
दृष्ट्वा शिवं शिवां चैव (dṛṣṭvā śivaṃ śivāṃ caiva) — having seen Śiva and Śivā [Pārvatī] tooसर्वे विष्ण्वादयो द्रुतम् (sarve viṣṇvādayo drutam) — all of them, headed by Viṣṇu, swiftlyप्रणम्य शङ्करं भक्त्या (praṇamya śaṅkaraṃ bhaktyā) — having bowed to Śaṅkara with devotionकरौ बद्ध्वा विनम्रकाः (karau baddhvā vinamrakāḥ) — joining their hands, humbly
२१ कुमारोऽपि विनीतात्मा विमानादवतीर्य च। प्रणनाम मुदा शम्भुं शिवां सिंहासनस्थिताम्॥ २१
kumāro'pi vinītātmā vimānādavatīrya ca | praṇanāma mudā śambhuṃ śivāṃ siṃhāsanasthitām 21 ||
विनीतात्मा कुमारने भी विमानसे उतरकर सिंहासनपर विराजमान शम्भु और शिवाको आनन्दपूर्वक प्रणाम किया।
Kumāra too, of humble mind, having descended from his chariot, bowed with joy to Śambhu and to Śivā seated upon her throne.
कुमारोऽपि विनीतात्मा (kumāro'pi vinītātmā) — Kumāra too, of humble mindविमानादवतीर्य च (vimānādavatīrya ca) — having descended from his chariotप्रणनाम मुदा शम्भुं (praṇanāma mudā śambhuṃ) — bowed with joy to Śambhuशिवां सिंहासनस्थिताम् (śivāṃ siṃhāsanasthitām) — and to Śivā, seated upon her throne
२२ अथ दृष्ट्वा कुमारं तं तनयं प्राणवल्लभम्। तौ दम्पती शिवौ देवौ मुमुदातेऽति नारद॥ २२
atha dṛṣṭvā kumāraṃ taṃ tanayaṃ prāṇavallabham | tau dampatī śivau devau mumudāte'ti nārada 22 ||
हे नारद! अपने प्राणप्रिय पुत्र कुमारको देखकर वे दोनों शिव-पार्वती देवदम्पती अत्यन्त प्रसन्न हुए।
Then, O Nārada, having seen that Kumāra, their son dearer than life, those two, the divine couple, rejoiced exceedingly.
अथ दृष्ट्वा कुमारं तं (atha dṛṣṭvā kumāraṃ taṃ) — then, having seen that Kumāraतनयं प्राणवल्लभम् (tanayaṃ prāṇavallabham) — their son, dearer than lifeतौ दम्पती शिवौ देवौ (tau dampatī śivau devau) — those two, the divine couple Śiva [and Śivā]मुमुदातेऽति नारद (mumudāte'ti nārada) — rejoiced exceedingly, O Nārada
२३ महाप्रभुःसमुत्थाप्य तमुत्सङ्गे न्यवेशयत्। मूर्ध्नि जघ्रौ मुदा स्नेहात्तं पस्पर्श करेण ह॥ २३
mahāprabhuḥsamutthāpya tamutsaṅge nyaveśayat | mūrdhni jaghrau mudā snehāttaṃ pasparśa kareṇa ha 23 ||
महाप्रभु शिवजीने उन्हें उठाकर अपनी गोदमें बिठाया, प्रसन्नतापूर्वक स्नेहसे सिर सूँघा और हाथसे उनका स्पर्श किया।
The great lord, having lifted him up, set him upon his own lap, smelled his head with joy and affection, and touched him with his hand.
महाप्रभुःसमुत्थाप्य (mahāprabhuḥsamutthāpya) — the great lord, having lifted him upतमुत्सङ्गे न्यवेशयत् (tamutsaṅge nyaveśayat) — set him upon his own lapमूर्ध्नि जघ्रौ मुदा स्नेहात् (mūrdhni jaghrau mudā snehāt) — smelled his head with joy and affectionतं पस्पर्श करेण ह (taṃ pasparśa kareṇa ha) — and touched him with his hand
२४ महानन्दभरः शम्भुश्चकार मुखचुम्बनम्। कुमारस्य महास्नेहात् तारकारेर्महाप्रभोः॥ २४
mahānandabharaḥ śambhuścakāra mukhacumbanam | kumārasya mahāsnehāt tārakārermahāprabhoḥ 24 ||
महान् आनन्दसे भरे शिवजीने तारकके शत्रु उन महाप्रभु कुमारके प्रति अत्यन्त स्नेहसे उनका मुख चूम लिया।
Śambhu, overwhelmed with great bliss, out of great affection, kissed the face of Kumāra, that great lord, the foe of Tāraka.
महानन्दभरः शम्भुः (mahānandabharaḥ śambhuḥ) — Śambhu, overwhelmed with great blissचकार मुखचुम्बनम् (cakāra mukhacumbanam) — kissed his faceकुमारस्य महास्नेहात् (kumārasya mahāsnehāt) — out of great affection for Kumāraतारकारेर्महाप्रभोः (tārakārermahāprabhoḥ) — the great lord, the foe of Tāraka
२५ शिवापि तं समुत्थाप्य स्वोत्सङ्गे संन्यवेशयत्। कृत्वा मूर्ध्नि महास्नेहात् तन्मुखाब्जं चुचुम्ब हि॥ २५
śivāpi taṃ samutthāpya svotsaṅge saṃnyaveśayat | kṛtvā mūrdhni mahāsnehāt tanmukhābjaṃ cucumba hi 25 ||
पार्वतीने भी उन्हें उठाकर अपनी गोदमें बिठाया और अत्यन्त स्नेहसे सिर चूमकर उनके मुखकमलको भी चूम लिया।
Śivā too, having lifted him up, set him upon her own lap, and out of great affection, having [kissed] his head, indeed kissed his lotus-like face.
शिवापि तं समुत्थाप्य (śivāpi taṃ samutthāpya) — Śivā too, having lifted him upस्वोत्सङ्गे संन्यवेशयत् (svotsaṅge saṃnyaveśayat) — set him upon her own lapकृत्वा मूर्ध्नि महास्नेहात् (kṛtvā mūrdhni mahāsnehāt) — [a kiss] on his head, out of great affectionतन्मुखाब्जं चुचुम्ब हि (tanmukhābjaṃ cucumba hi) — and indeed kissed his lotus-like face
२६ तयोस्तदा महामोदो ववृधेऽतीव नारद। दम्पत्योः शिवयोस्तात भवाचारं प्रकुर्वतोः॥ २६
tayostadā mahāmodo vavṛdhe'tīva nārada | dampatyoḥ śivayostāta bhavācāraṃ prakurvatoḥ 26 ||
हे तात नारद! इस प्रकार लौकिक आचार करते हुए उन शिव-पार्वती दम्पतीका आनन्द अत्यन्त बढ़ गया।
O child Nārada, the great delight of that couple, Śiva and Śivā, then grew exceedingly, as they performed the customary [parental] behaviour.
तयोस्तदा महामोदो (tayostadā mahāmodo) — their great delight thenववृधेऽतीव नारद (vavṛdhe'tīva nārada) — grew exceedingly, O Nāradaदम्पत्योः शिवयोस्तात (dampatyoḥ śivayostāta) — of that couple, Śiva and Śivā, O childभवाचारं प्रकुर्वतोः (bhavācāraṃ prakurvatoḥ) — as they performed the customary [parental] behaviour
२७ तदोत्सवो महानासीन्नानाश्चर्यः शिवालये। जयशब्दो नमश्शब्दो बभूवातीव सर्वतः॥ २७
tadotsavo mahānāsīnnānāścaryaḥ śivālaye | jayaśabdo namaśśabdo babhūvātīva sarvataḥ 27 ||
उस समय शिवजीके धाममें अनेक आश्चर्योंसे भरा महान् उत्सव हुआ और चारों ओर जय-जयकार तथा नमःशब्दकी ध्वनि होने लगी।
Then there was a great festival, full of many wonders, in Śiva's abode; shouts of "victory" and of "salutation" arose exceedingly on every side.
तदोत्सवो महानासीत् (tadotsavo mahānāsīt) — then there was a great festivalनानाश्चर्यः शिवालये (nānāścaryaḥ śivālaye) — full of many wonders, in Śiva's abodeजयशब्दो नमश्शब्दो (jayaśabdo namaśśabdo) — shouts of "victory" and of "salutation"बभूवातीव सर्वतः (babhūvātīva sarvataḥ) — arose exceedingly on every side
२८ ततःसुरगणाः सर्वे विष्ण्वाद्या मुनयस्तथा। सुप्रणम्य मुदा शम्भुं तुष्टुवुः सशिवं मुने॥ २८
tataḥsuragaṇāḥ sarve viṣṇvādyā munayastathā | supraṇamya mudā śambhuṃ tuṣṭuvuḥ saśivaṃ mune 28 ||
हे मुने! तत्पश्चात् विष्णु आदि सभी देवगण तथा मुनिगण प्रसन्नतापूर्वक शम्भुको प्रणामकर शिवासहित उनकी स्तुति करने लगे।
Then, O sage, all the hosts of gods headed by Viṣṇu, and the sages as well, having duly bowed with joy to Śambhu, praised him together with Śivā.
ततःसुरगणाः सर्वे (tataḥsuragaṇāḥ sarve) — then all the hosts of godsविष्ण्वाद्या मुनयस्तथा (viṣṇvādyā munayastathā) — headed by Viṣṇu, and the sages as wellसुप्रणम्य मुदा शम्भुं (supraṇamya mudā śambhuṃ) — having duly bowed with joy to Śambhuतुष्टुवुः सशिवं मुने (tuṣṭuvuḥ saśivaṃ mune) — praised him together with Śivā, O sage
२९ देवदेव महादेव भक्तानामभयप्रद। नमो नमस्ते बहुशः कृपाकर महेश्वर॥ २९
devadeva mahādeva bhaktānāmabhayaprada | namo namaste bahuśaḥ kṛpākara maheśvara 29 ||
हे देवदेव! हे महादेव! हे भक्तोंको अभय देनेवाले! हे कृपाकर महेश्वर! आपको बार-बार नमस्कार है।
"O god of gods, O great god, giver of fearlessness to your devotees — salutation, salutation to you, again and again, O fount of compassion, O great lord."
देवदेव महादेव (devadeva mahādeva) — "O god of gods, O great godभक्तानामभयप्रद (bhaktānāmabhayaprada) — O giver of fearlessness to your devoteesनमो नमस्ते बहुशः (namo namaste bahuśaḥ) — salutation, salutation to you, again and againकृपाकर महेश्वर (kṛpākara maheśvara) — O fount of compassion, O great lord"
३० अद्भुता ते महादेव महालीला सुखप्रदा। सर्वेषां शङ्कर सतां दीनबन्धो महाप्रभो॥ ३०
adbhutā te mahādeva mahālīlā sukhapradā | sarveṣāṃ śaṅkara satāṃ dīnabandho mahāprabho 30 ||
हे महादेव! हे शंकर! आपकी लीला अद्भुत तथा सभी सज्जनोंको सुख देनेवाली है। हे दीनबन्धो! हे महाप्रभो!
"Wondrous, O great god, is your great play, O Śaṅkara, giver of happiness to all good people, O kinsman of the humble, O great lord."
अद्भुता ते महादेव (adbhutā te mahādeva) — "wondrous, O great god, is yourमहालीला सुखप्रदा (mahālīlā sukhapradā) — great play, giver of happinessसर्वेषां शङ्कर सतां (sarveṣāṃ śaṅkara satāṃ) — to all good people, O Śaṅkaraदीनबन्धो महाप्रभो (dīnabandho mahāprabho) — O kinsman of the humble, O great lord"
३१ वयं मूढधियश्चाज्ञाः पूजायां ते सनातनम्। आवाहनं न जानीमो गतिं नैव प्रभोद्भुताम्॥ ३१
vayaṃ mūḍhadhiyaścājñāḥ pūjāyāṃ te sanātanam | āvāhanaṃ na jānīmo gatiṃ naiva prabhodbhutām 31 ||
हे प्रभो! हम मूर्खबुद्धि तथा अज्ञानी लोग आपकी पूजाके सनातन आवाहनको और आपकी अद्भुत गतिको नहीं जानते हैं।
"We, of dull understanding and ignorant, do not know the eternal invocation in your worship, nor indeed, O lord, your wondrous course."
वयं मूढधियश्चाज्ञाः (vayaṃ mūḍhadhiyaścājñāḥ) — "we, of dull understanding and ignorant,पूजायां ते सनातनम् (pūjāyāṃ te sanātanam) — in your eternal worshipआवाहनं न जानीमो (āvāhanaṃ na jānīmo) — do not know the invocationगतिं नैव प्रभोद्भुताम् (gatiṃ naiva prabhodbhutām) — nor indeed, O lord, your wondrous course"
३२ गङ्गासलिलधाराय ह्याधाराय गुणात्मने। नमस्ते त्रिदशेशाय शङ्कराय नमोनमः॥ ३२
gaṅgāsaliladhārāya hyādhārāya guṇātmane | namaste tridaśeśāya śaṅkarāya namonamaḥ 32 ||
गंगाजलकी धारा धारण करनेवाले, सबके आधार तथा गुणस्वरूप, त्रिदशेश्वर आप शंकरको बार-बार नमस्कार है।
"To the bearer of the Gaṅgā's stream, the support [of all], whose nature is qualities — salutation to you, O lord of the thirty gods; to Śaṅkara, salutation, salutation."
गङ्गासलिलधाराय (gaṅgāsaliladhārāya) — "to the bearer of the stream of the Gaṅgā's watersह्याधाराय गुणात्मने (hyādhārāya guṇātmane) — the support [of all], the one whose nature is qualitiesनमस्ते त्रिदशेशाय (namaste tridaśeśāya) — salutation to you, O lord of the thirty godsशङ्कराय नमोनमः (śaṅkarāya namonamaḥ) — to Śaṅkara, salutation, salutation"
३३ वृषाङ्काय महेशाय गणानां पतये नमः। सर्वेश्वराय देवाय त्रिलोकपतये नमः॥ ३३
vṛṣāṅkāya maheśāya gaṇānāṃ pataye namaḥ | sarveśvarāya devāya trilokapataye namaḥ 33 ||
वृषभध्वज, महेश्वर तथा गणोंके स्वामीको नमस्कार है। सर्वेश्वर, देव तथा त्रिलोकपतिको नमस्कार है।
"Salutation to the one whose emblem is the bull, the great lord, the lord of the gaṇas; salutation to the lord of all, the god, the lord of the three worlds."
वृषाङ्काय महेशाय (vṛṣāṅkāya maheśāya) — "to the one whose emblem is the bull, the great lordगणानां पतये नमः (gaṇānāṃ pataye namaḥ) — salutation to the lord of the gaṇasसर्वेश्वराय देवाय (sarveśvarāya devāya) — to the lord of all, the godत्रिलोकपतये नमः (trilokapataye namaḥ) — salutation to the lord of the three worlds"
३४ संहर्त्रे जगतां नाथ सर्वेषां ते नमो नमः। भर्त्रे कर्त्रे च देवेश त्रिगुणेशाय शाश्वते॥ ३४
saṃhartre jagatāṃ nātha sarveṣāṃ te namo namaḥ | bhartre kartre ca deveśa triguṇeśāya śāśvate 34 ||
हे नाथ! हे देवेश! सम्पूर्ण जगत्के संहारकर्ता, भर्ता तथा कर्ता एवं त्रिगुणेश्वर, शाश्वत आपको बार-बार नमस्कार है।
"O lord of all worlds, salutation, salutation to you, the destroyer; to the sustainer and the maker too, O lord of the gods, to the lord of the three guṇas, the eternal one."
संहर्त्रे जगतां नाथ (saṃhartre jagatāṃ nātha) — "to the destroyer of the worlds, O lordसर्वेषां ते नमो नमः (sarveṣāṃ te namo namaḥ) — of all, salutation, salutation to youभर्त्रे कर्त्रे च देवेश (bhartre kartre ca deveśa) — to the sustainer and the maker too, O lord of the godsत्रिगुणेशाय शाश्वते (triguṇeśāya śāśvate) — to the lord of the three guṇas, the eternal one"
३५ विसङ्गाय परेशाय शिवाय परमात्मने। निष्प्रपञ्चाय शुद्धाय परमायाव्ययाय च॥ ३५
visaṅgāya pareśāya śivāya paramātmane | niṣprapañcāya śuddhāya paramāyāvyayāya ca 35 ||
निःसंग, परमेश्वर, शिव, परमात्मा, निष्प्रपंच, शुद्ध तथा परम अव्यय आपको नमस्कार है।
"[Salutation] to the one free of attachment, the supreme lord; to Śiva, the supreme self; to the one beyond manifestation, the pure one; and to the supreme, imperishable one."
विसङ्गाय परेशाय (visaṅgāya pareśāya) — "to the one free of attachment, the supreme lordशिवाय परमात्मने (śivāya paramātmane) — to Śiva, the supreme selfनिष्प्रपञ्चाय शुद्धाय (niṣprapañcāya śuddhāya) — to the one beyond manifestation, the pure oneपरमायाव्ययाय च (paramāyāvyayāya ca) — and to the supreme, imperishable one"
३६ दण्डहस्ताय कालाय पाशहस्ताय ते नमः। वेदमन्त्रप्रधानाय शतजिह्वाय ते नमः॥ ३६
daṇḍahastāya kālāya pāśahastāya te namaḥ | vedamantrapradhānāya śatajihvāya te namaḥ 36 ||
दण्डधारी, कालस्वरूप तथा पाशधारी आपको नमस्कार है। वेदमन्त्रोंमें प्रधान तथा शतजिह्व आपको नमस्कार है।
"To the one with the staff in hand, to Kāla; to the one with the noose in hand — salutation to you. To the foremost of the Vedic mantras, to the one of a hundred tongues — salutation to you."
दण्डहस्ताय कालाय (daṇḍahastāya kālāya) — "to the one with the staff in hand, to Kāla [time/death]पाशहस्ताय ते नमः (pāśahastāya te namaḥ) — to the one with the noose in hand, salutation to youवेदमन्त्रप्रधानाय (vedamantrapradhānāya) — to the foremost among the Vedic mantrasशतजिह्वाय ते नमः (śatajihvāya te namaḥ) — to the one of a hundred tongues, salutation to you"
३७ भूतं भव्यं भविष्यं च स्थावरं जङ्गमं च यत्। तव देहात्समुत्पन्नं सर्वथा परमेश्वर॥ ३७
bhūtaṃ bhavyaṃ bhaviṣyaṃ ca sthāvaraṃ jaṅgamaṃ ca yat | tava dehātsamutpannaṃ sarvathā parameśvara 37 ||
हे परमेश्वर! भूत, वर्तमान और भविष्य तथा जो भी स्थावर-जंगम है, वह सब सर्वथा आपके ही शरीरसे उत्पन्न हुआ है।
"Whatever has been, is, and shall be, and whatever is unmoving or moving, has in every way arisen from your very body, O supreme lord."
भूतं भव्यं भविष्यं च (bhūtaṃ bhavyaṃ bhaviṣyaṃ ca) — "whatever has been, is, and shall beस्थावरं जङ्गमं च यत् (sthāvaraṃ jaṅgamaṃ ca yat) — and whatever is unmoving or movingतव देहात्समुत्पन्नं (tava dehātsamutpannaṃ) — has arisen from your very bodyसर्वथा परमेश्वर (sarvathā parameśvara) — in every way, O supreme lord"
३८ पाहि नः सर्वदा स्वामिन्प्रसीद भगवन्प्रभो। वयं ते शरणापन्नाः सर्वथा परमेश्वर॥ ३८
pāhi naḥ sarvadā svāminprasīda bhagavanprabho | vayaṃ te śaraṇāpannāḥ sarvathā parameśvara 38 ||
हे स्वामिन्! हे भगवन्! हे प्रभो! हमलोगोंकी सर्वदा रक्षा कीजिये, प्रसन्न होइये। हे परमेश्वर! हम सर्वथा आपके शरणागत हैं।
"Protect us always, O lord; be gracious, O blessed master. We have taken refuge in you in every way, O supreme lord."
पाहि नः सर्वदा स्वामिन् (pāhi naḥ sarvadā svāmin) — "protect us always, O lordप्रसीद भगवन्प्रभो (prasīda bhagavanprabho) — be gracious, O blessed masterवयं ते शरणापन्नाः (vayaṃ te śaraṇāpannāḥ) — we have taken refuge in youसर्वथा परमेश्वर (sarvathā parameśvara) — in every way, O supreme lord"
३९ शितिकण्ठाय रुद्राय स्वाहाकाराय ते नमः। अरूपाय सरूपाय विश्वरूपाय ते नमः॥ ३९
śitikaṇṭhāya rudrāya svāhākārāya te namaḥ | arūpāya sarūpāya viśvarūpāya te namaḥ 39 ||
शितिकण्ठ, रुद्र तथा स्वाहाकाररूप आपको नमस्कार है। अरूप, सरूप तथा विश्वरूप आपको नमस्कार है।
"To Śitikaṇṭha, to Rudra, to the one who is the utterance 'svāhā' — salutation to you. To the formless, to the one with form, to the one whose form is the universe — salutation to you."
शितिकण्ठाय रुद्राय (śitikaṇṭhāya rudrāya) — "to the white/dark-throated one, to Rudraस्वाहाकाराय ते नमः (svāhākārāya te namaḥ) — to the one who is the utterance "svāhā", salutation to youअरूपाय सरूपाय (arūpāya sarūpāya) — to the formless and to the one with formविश्वरूपाय ते नमः (viśvarūpāya te namaḥ) — to the one whose form is the universe, salutation to you"
४० शिवाय नीलकण्ठाय चिताभस्माङ्गधारिणे। नित्यं नीलशिखण्डाय श्रीकण्ठाय नमोनमः॥ ४०
śivāya nīlakaṇṭhāya citābhasmāṅgadhāriṇe | nityaṃ nīlaśikhaṇḍāya śrīkaṇṭhāya namonamaḥ 40 ||
शिव, नीलकण्ठ, अंगोंमें चिताकी भस्म धारण करनेवाले, नित्य नीलशिखण्ड तथा श्रीकण्ठ आपको बार-बार नमस्कार है।
"To Śiva, to the blue-throated one, who bears the ashes of the pyre on his limbs; to the ever blue-crested one, to the glorious-throated one — salutation, salutation."
शिवाय नीलकण्ठाय (śivāya nīlakaṇṭhāya) — "to Śiva, to the blue-throated oneचिताभस्माङ्गधारिणे (citābhasmāṅgadhāriṇe) — to the one who bears the ashes of the pyre on his limbsनित्यं नीलशिखण्डाय (nityaṃ nīlaśikhaṇḍāya) — to the ever blue-crested oneश्रीकण्ठाय नमोनमः (śrīkaṇṭhāya namonamaḥ) — to the glorious-throated one, salutation, salutation"
४१ सर्वप्रणतदेहाय संयमप्रणताय च। महादेवाय शर्वाय सर्वार्चितपदाय च॥ ४१
sarvapraṇatadehāya saṃyamapraṇatāya ca | mahādevāya śarvāya sarvārcitapadāya ca 41 ||
सबके द्वारा प्रणम्य देहवाले, संयमपूर्वक प्रणत होनेवाले, महादेव, शर्व तथा सबके द्वारा पूजित चरणवाले आपको नमस्कार है।
"[Salutation] to the one whose body all bow to, who is bowed to through self-restraint; to the great god, to Śarva, whose feet are worshipped by all."
सर्वप्रणतदेहाय (sarvapraṇatadehāya) — "to the one whose body is bowed to by allसंयमप्रणताय च (saṃyamapraṇatāya ca) — and who is bowed to through self-restraintमहादेवाय शर्वाय (mahādevāya śarvāya) — to the great god, to Śarvaसर्वार्चितपदाय च (sarvārcitapadāya ca) — and whose feet are worshipped by all"
४२ त्वं ब्रह्मा सर्वदेवानां रुद्राणां नीललोहितः। आत्मा च सर्वभूतानां साङ्ख्यैः पुरुष उच्यसे॥ ४२
tvaṃ brahmā sarvadevānāṃ rudrāṇāṃ nīlalohitaḥ | ātmā ca sarvabhūtānāṃ sāṅkhyaiḥ puruṣa ucyase 42 ||
आप सब देवताओंमें ब्रह्मा और रुद्रोंमें नीललोहित हैं, तथा सब प्राणियोंकी आत्मा हैं। सांख्यमतवाले आपको पुरुष कहते हैं।
"You are Brahmā among all the gods, and the blue-red one [Nīlalohita] among the Rudras; you are the self of all beings, and are called Puruṣa by the followers of Sāṅkhya."
त्वं ब्रह्मा सर्वदेवानां (tvaṃ brahmā sarvadevānāṃ) — "you are Brahmā among all the godsरुद्राणां नीललोहितः (rudrāṇāṃ nīlalohitaḥ) — and the blue-red one [Rudra] among the Rudrasआत्मा च सर्वभूतानां (ātmā ca sarvabhūtānāṃ) — and the self of all beingsसाङ्ख्यैः पुरुष उच्यसे (sāṅkhyaiḥ puruṣa ucyase) — by the Sāṅkhyas you are called Puruṣa"
४३ पर्वतानां सुमेरुस्त्वं नक्षत्राणां च चन्द्रमाः। ऋषीणां च वसिष्ठस्त्वं देवानां वासवस्तथा॥ ४३
parvatānāṃ sumerustvaṃ nakṣatrāṇāṃ ca candramāḥ | ṛṣīṇāṃ ca vasiṣṭhastvaṃ devānāṃ vāsavastathā 43 ||
आप पर्वतोंमें सुमेरु, नक्षत्रोंमें चन्द्रमा, ऋषियोंमें वसिष्ठ तथा देवोंमें वासव (इन्द्र) हैं।
"Among mountains you are Sumeru, and among the stars, the moon; among sages you are Vasiṣṭha, and likewise, among the gods, Vāsava [Indra]."
पर्वतानां सुमेरुस्त्वं (parvatānāṃ sumerustvaṃ) — "among mountains, you are Sumeruनक्षत्राणां च चन्द्रमाः (nakṣatrāṇāṃ ca candramāḥ) — and among the stars, the moonऋषीणां च वसिष्ठस्त्वं (ṛṣīṇāṃ ca vasiṣṭhastvaṃ) — and among sages, you are Vasiṣṭhaदेवानां वासवस्तथा (devānāṃ vāsavastathā) — and likewise, among gods, Vāsava [Indra]"
४४ ॐङ्कारस्सर्ववेदानां त्राता भव महेश्वर। त्वं च लोकहितार्थाय भूतानि परिषिञ्चसि॥ ४४
oṃṅkārassarvavedānāṃ trātā bhava maheśvara | tvaṃ ca lokahitārthāya bhūtāni pariṣiñcasi 44 ||
आप सभी वेदोंके ॐकारस्वरूप हैं। हे महेश्वर! आप हमारी रक्षा कीजिये। आप लोकहितके लिये प्राणियोंका पालन करते हैं।
"You are the syllable Oṃ of all the Vedas; be our protector, O great lord. And you, for the welfare of the world, sustain and nourish all beings."
ॐङ्कारस्सर्ववेदानां (oṃṅkārassarvavedānāṃ) — "[you are] the syllable Oṃ of all the Vedasत्राता भव महेश्वर (trātā bhava maheśvara) — be our protector, O great lordत्वं च लोकहितार्थाय (tvaṃ ca lokahitārthāya) — and you, for the welfare of the worldभूतानि परिषिञ्चसि (bhūtāni pariṣiñcasi) — sustain and nourish all beings"
४५ महेश्वर महाभाग शुभाशुभनिरीक्षक। आप्यायास्मान्हि देवेश कर्तॄन्वै वचनं तव॥ ४५
maheśvara mahābhāga śubhāśubhanirīkṣaka | āpyāyāsmānhi deveśa kartṝnvai vacanaṃ tava 45 ||
हे महेश्वर! हे महाभाग! हे शुभाशुभको देखनेवाले! हे देवेश! आपकी आज्ञाका पालन करनेवाले हमलोगोंकी रक्षा कीजिये।
"O great lord, O most fortunate one, O witness of the good and the ill, O lord of gods — do nourish and protect us, who indeed carry out your word."
महेश्वर महाभाग (maheśvara mahābhāga) — "O great lord, O most fortunate oneशुभाशुभनिरीक्षक (śubhāśubhanirīkṣaka) — O witness of the good and the illआप्यायास्मान्हि देवेश (āpyāyāsmānhi deveśa) — do nourish and protect us, O lord of godsकर्तॄन्वै वचनं तव (kartṝnvai vacanaṃ tava) — who indeed carry out your word"
४६ रूपकोटिसहस्रेषु रूपकोटिशतेषु ते। अन्तं गन्तुं न शक्ताः स्म देवदेव नमोऽस्तु ते॥ ४६
rūpakoṭisahasreṣu rūpakoṭiśateṣu te | antaṃ gantuṃ na śaktāḥ sma devadeva namo'stu te 46 ||
आपके सहस्रों करोड़ तथा सैकड़ों करोड़ रूपोंका अन्त पानेमें हम समर्थ नहीं हैं। हे देवदेव! आपको नमस्कार है।
"Among your thousands of crores of forms and your hundreds of crores of forms, we have not been able to reach the end; O god of gods, let there be salutation to you."
रूपकोटिसहस्रेषु (rūpakoṭisahasreṣu) — "among your thousands of crores of formsरूपकोटिशतेषु ते (rūpakoṭiśateṣu te) — and your hundreds of crores of formsअन्तं गन्तुं न शक्ताः स्म (antaṃ gantuṃ na śaktāḥ sma) — we have not been able to reach the endदेवदेव नमोऽस्तु ते (devadeva namo'stu te) — O god of gods, let there be salutation to you"
४७ इति स्तुत्वाऽखिला देवा विष्ण्वाद्याःप्रमुखस्थिताः। मुहुर्मुहुस्सुप्रणम्य स्कन्दं कृत्वा पुरस्सरम्॥ ४७
iti stutvā'khilā devā viṣṇvādyāḥpramukhasthitāḥ | muhurmuhussupraṇamya skandaṃ kṛtvā purassaram 47 ||
इस प्रकार स्तुति करके विष्णु आदि सभी देवता सामने खड़े होकर स्कन्दको आगे करके बार-बार प्रणाम करने लगे।
Having thus praised him, all the gods headed by Viṣṇu, standing before him, bowed again and again, placing Skanda in front.
इति स्तुत्वाऽखिला देवा (iti stutvā'khilā devā) — having thus praised him, all the godsविष्ण्वाद्याःप्रमुखस्थिताः (viṣṇvādyāḥpramukhasthitāḥ) — headed by Viṣṇu, standing before himमुहुर्मुहुस्सुप्रणम्य (muhurmuhussupraṇamya) — having bowed again and againस्कन्दं कृत्वा पुरस्सरम् (skandaṃ kṛtvā purassaram) — placing Skanda in front
४८ देवस्तुतिं समाकर्ण्य शिवःसर्वेश्वरः स्वराट्। सुप्रसन्नो बभूवाथ विजहास दयापरः॥ ४८
devastutiṃ samākarṇya śivaḥsarveśvaraḥ svarāṭ | suprasanno babhūvātha vijahāsa dayāparaḥ 48 ||
देवताओंकी स्तुति सुनकर सर्वेश्वर स्वराट् शिवजी अत्यन्त प्रसन्न हो गये और दयालु होकर हँसने लगे।
Having heard the gods' hymn of praise, Śiva, the lord of all, the self-sovereign, became well pleased, and, intent on compassion, laughed.
देवस्तुतिं समाकर्ण्य (devastutiṃ samākarṇya) — having heard the gods' hymn of praiseशिवःसर्वेश्वरः स्वराट् (śivaḥsarveśvaraḥ svarāṭ) — Śiva, the lord of all, the self-sovereignसुप्रसन्नो बभूवाथ (suprasanno babhūvātha) — became well pleasedविजहास दयापरः (vijahāsa dayāparaḥ) — and, intent on compassion, laughed
४९ उवाच सुप्रसन्नात्मा विष्ण्वादीन्सुरसत्तमान्। शङ्करः परमेशानो दीनबन्धुःसतां गतिः॥ ४९
uvāca suprasannātmā viṣṇvādīnsurasattamān | śaṅkaraḥ parameśāno dīnabandhuḥsatāṃ gatiḥ 49 ||
प्रसन्नचित्त होकर परमेश्वर, दीनबन्धु तथा सज्जनोंकी गति शंकरजी विष्णु आदि श्रेष्ठ देवताओंसे कहने लगे।
Well pleased in mind, Śaṅkara, the supreme lord, kinsman of the humble, the refuge of the virtuous, spoke to Viṣṇu and the other best of gods.
उवाच सुप्रसन्नात्मा (uvāca suprasannātmā) — well pleased in mind, he spokeविष्ण्वादीन्सुरसत्तमान् (viṣṇvādīnsurasattamān) — to Viṣṇu and the other best of godsशङ्करः परमेशानो (śaṅkaraḥ parameśāno) — Śaṅkara, the supreme lordदीनबन्धुःसतां गतिः (dīnabandhuḥsatāṃ gatiḥ) — kinsman of the humble, the refuge of the virtuous
५० हे हरे हे विधे देवा वाक्यं मे शृणुतादरात्। सर्वथाऽहं सतां त्राता देवानां वः कृपानिधिः॥ ५०
he hare he vidhe devā vākyaṃ me śṛṇutādarāt | sarvathā'haṃ satāṃ trātā devānāṃ vaḥ kṛpānidhiḥ 50 ||
हे हरि! हे विधि! हे देवगण! मेरा वचन आदरपूर्वक सुनो। मैं सर्वथा सज्जनोंका रक्षक तथा आप देवताओंके लिये दयाका भण्डार हूँ।
"O Hari, O Vidhi, O gods, hear my word with reverence. I am in every way the protector of the virtuous, and for you gods, a treasury of compassion."
हे हरे हे विधे देवा (he hare he vidhe devā) — "O Hari, O Vidhi [Brahmā], O godsवाक्यं मे शृणुतादरात् (vākyaṃ me śṛṇutādarāt) — hear my word with reverenceसर्वथाऽहं सतां त्राता (sarvathā'haṃ satāṃ trātā) — in every way, I am the protector of the virtuousदेवानां वः कृपानिधिः (devānāṃ vaḥ kṛpānidhiḥ) — and, for you gods, a treasury of compassion"
५१ दुष्टहन्ता त्रिलोकेशः शङ्करो भक्तवत्सलः। कर्ता भर्ता च हर्ता च सर्वेषां निर्विकारवान्॥ ५१
duṣṭahantā trilokeśaḥ śaṅkaro bhaktavatsalaḥ | kartā bhartā ca hartā ca sarveṣāṃ nirvikāravān 51 ||
मैं दुष्टोंका संहार करनेवाला, त्रिलोकेश, भक्तवत्सल शंकर हूँ। मैं सबका कर्ता, भर्ता तथा हर्ता होते हुए भी निर्विकार हूँ।
"[I am] Śaṅkara, the destroyer of the wicked, the lord of the three worlds, affectionate to my devotees — the maker, the sustainer, and the destroyer of all, yet ever unchanging."
दुष्टहन्ता त्रिलोकेशः (duṣṭahantā trilokeśaḥ) — "the destroyer of the wicked, the lord of the three worldsशङ्करो भक्तवत्सलः (śaṅkaro bhaktavatsalaḥ) — Śaṅkara, affectionate to his devoteesकर्ता भर्ता च हर्ता च (kartā bhartā ca hartā ca) — the maker, the sustainer, and the destroyerसर्वेषां निर्विकारवान् (sarveṣāṃ nirvikāravān) — of all, yet ever unchanging"
५२ यदा यदा भवेद्दुःखं युष्माकं देवसत्तमाः। तदा तदा मां यूयं वै भजन्तु सुखहेतवे॥ ५२
yadā yadā bhavedduḥkhaṃ yuṣmākaṃ devasattamāḥ | tadā tadā māṃ yūyaṃ vai bhajantu sukhahetave 52 ||
हे देवसत्तमो! जब-जब तुमलोगोंको दुःख हो, तब-तब सुखप्राप्तिके लिये तुम मेरा ही भजन करना।
"Whenever sorrow should arise for you, O best of gods, at that very time do you turn to me in devotion, for the sake of happiness."
यदा यदा भवेद्दुःखं (yadā yadā bhavedduḥkhaṃ) — "whenever sorrow should ariseयुष्माकं देवसत्तमाः (yuṣmākaṃ devasattamāḥ) — for you, O best of godsतदा तदा मां यूयं वै (tadā tadā māṃ yūyaṃ vai) — then, at that very time, do you indeedभजन्तु सुखहेतवे (bhajantu sukhahetave) — turn to me in devotion, for the sake of happiness"
५३ इत्याज्ञप्तास्तदा देवा विष्ण्वाद्याः समुनीश्वराः। शिवां प्रणम्य सशिवं कुमारं च मुदान्विताः॥ ५३
ityājñaptāstadā devā viṣṇvādyāḥ samunīśvarāḥ | śivāṃ praṇamya saśivaṃ kumāraṃ ca mudānvitāḥ 53 ||
इस प्रकार आज्ञा पाकर विष्णु आदि देवता मुनीश्वरोंसहित प्रसन्नतापूर्वक पार्वती, शिव तथा कुमारको प्रणामकर,
Thus instructed, then the gods headed by Viṣṇu, together with the lords of sages, filled with joy, having bowed to Śivā together with Śiva and Kumāra —
इत्याज्ञप्तास्तदा देवा (ityājñaptāstadā devā) — thus instructed, then the godsविष्ण्वाद्याः समुनीश्वराः (viṣṇvādyāḥ samunīśvarāḥ) — headed by Viṣṇu, together with the lords of sagesशिवां प्रणम्य सशिवं (śivāṃ praṇamya saśivaṃ) — having bowed to Śivā together with Śivaकुमारं च मुदान्विताः (kumāraṃ ca mudānvitāḥ) — and to Kumāra, filled with joy
५४ कथयन्तो यशो रम्यं शिवयोः शाङ्करेश्च तत्। आनन्दं परमं प्राप्य स्वधामानि ययुर्मुने॥ ५४
kathayanto yaśo ramyaṃ śivayoḥ śāṅkareśca tat | ānandaṃ paramaṃ prāpya svadhāmāni yayurmune 54 ||
शिव-पार्वती तथा शंकरपुत्र (कुमार) के उस रम्य यशका वर्णन करते हुए परम आनन्द पाकर अपने-अपने धाम चले गये।
— proclaiming that delightful fame of Śiva and Śivā, and of the son of Śaṅkara, having attained supreme bliss, O sage, departed to their own abodes.
कथयन्तो यशो रम्यं (kathayanto yaśo ramyaṃ) — proclaiming the delightful fameशिवयोः शाङ्करेश्च तत् (śivayoḥ śāṅkareśca tat) — of Śiva and Śivā, and of the son of Śaṅkaraआनन्दं परमं प्राप्य (ānandaṃ paramaṃ prāpya) — having attained supreme blissस्वधामानि ययुर्मुने (svadhāmāni yayurmune) — departed to their own abodes, O sage
५५ शिवोऽपि शिवया सार्द्धं सगणः परमेश्वरः। कुमारेणयुतः प्रीत्योवास तस्मिन्गिरौ मुदा॥ ५५
śivo'pi śivayā sārddhaṃ sagaṇaḥ parameśvaraḥ | kumāreṇayutaḥ prītyovāsa tasmingirau mudā 55 ||
परमेश्वर शिवजी भी पार्वती तथा गणोंसहित कुमारके साथ प्रेमपूर्वक आनन्दसे उस पर्वतपर निवास करने लगे।
Śiva too, the supreme lord, together with Śivā and his gaṇas, accompanied by Kumāra, dwelt joyfully and with affection on that mountain.
शिवोऽपि शिवया सार्द्धं (śivo'pi śivayā sārddhaṃ) — Śiva too, together with Śivāसगणः परमेश्वरः (sagaṇaḥ parameśvaraḥ) — the supreme lord, with his gaṇasकुमारेणयुतः प्रीत्या (kumāreṇayutaḥ prītyā) — accompanied by Kumāra, with affectionउवास तस्मिन्गिरौ मुदा (uvāsa tasmingirau mudā) — dwelt on that mountain, joyfully
५६ इत्येवं कथितं सर्वं कौमारं चरितं मुने। शैवं च सुखदं दिव्यं किमन्यच्छ्रोतुमिच्छसि॥ ५६
ityevaṃ kathitaṃ sarvaṃ kaumāraṃ caritaṃ mune | śaivaṃ ca sukhadaṃ divyaṃ kimanyacchrotumicchasi 56 ||
हे मुने! इस प्रकार कुमार तथा शिवका यह सम्पूर्ण सुखद, दिव्य चरित्र कह दिया गया। अब आप और क्या सुनना चाहते हैं?
O sage, thus has all the delightful and divine story of Kumāra, and of Śiva, been told; what else do you wish to hear?
इत्येवं कथितं सर्वं (ityevaṃ kathitaṃ sarvaṃ) — thus has all been toldकौमारं चरितं मुने (kaumāraṃ caritaṃ mune) — the story of Kumāra, O sageशैवं च सुखदं दिव्यं (śaivaṃ ca sukhadaṃ divyaṃ) — and that of Śiva, delightful and divineकिमन्यच्छ्रोतुमिच्छसि (kimanyacchrotumicchasi) — what else do you wish to hear?
इति श्रीशिवमहापुराणे द्वितीयायां रुद्रसंहितायां चतुर्थे कुमारखण्डे स्वामिकार्तिकचरितगर्भितशिवाशिवचरितवर्णनं नाम द्वादशोऽध्यायः॥ १२॥
Thus ends the twelfth chapter, called "The Description of Śiva and Śakti's Story Interwoven with the Story of Svāmī Kārtikeya," in the Kumāra-khaṇḍa of the fourth section of the second Rudra-saṃhitā, in the glorious Śiva Mahāpurāṇa.
॥ इस प्रकार श्रीशिवमहापुराणके अन्तर्गत द्वितीय रुद्रसंहिताके चतुर्थ कुमारखण्डमें स्वामिकार्तिकके चरितसे गर्भित शिव-शिवा (पार्वती) के चरितका वर्णन नामक बारहवाँ अध्याय पूर्ण हुआ॥ १२॥
