Chapter 93·Garuḍa bows to the crow·Verses 1–
Hearing Bhuśuṇḍi's pleasing words, the lord of birds was glad, and spread his feathers. His eyes filled with tears and his mind with joy, and he brought Raghupati's greatness to his heart. He felt sorry for his earlier delusion, since he had thought the beginningless Brahman a man. Again and again he bowed at the crow's feet, knowing him equal to Rāma and raising his love. No one crosses the ocean of becoming without a guru, even one like Brahmā or Śaṅkara. A snake of doubt had swallowed him, with painful waves of false argument; but Rāma, the snake-charmer, in the form of the crow, brought him back to life. By the crow's grace his delusion was destroyed and he knew the matchless secret of Rāma. Praising him in many ways, with bowed head and joined hands, Garuḍa then spoke with humble, loving, gentle words and asked a question of his own ignorance.

No one crosses the ocean of becoming without a guru, even one equal to Brahmā or Śaṅkara. The snake of doubt had swallowed me, friend, with its painful waves of many false arguments.

Lord, from my own lack of discernment I ask you, master; knowing me as your servant, tell me kindly.
