Sages like Nārada and Sanaka come to Ayodhyā every day to see the lord of Kosala, and forget their detachment on seeing the city. Its houses are built of gold and gems, with floors of many colours. A lovely wall runs round the city with battlements of many colours, like the nine planets surrounding Amarāvatī. The ground is set with glass that makes the sages' minds dance. White palaces touch the sky and their pinnacles shame the sun and moon. Lamps of jewels shine in every house. The stanza describes pillars and walls of gems, courtyards of crystal, and doors of gold set with diamonds. In every house are lovely picture halls with the story of Rāma painted so well that it steals even a sage's mind.

It looked as if a host of the nine planets had come and surrounded Amarāvatī. The floor was of coloured glass in many hues, at which the minds of the best of sages danced.
