Chapter 22·The greatness of his kingdom·Verses 1–
The earth with its seven seas for a girdle has one king, Raghupati of Kosala. In every pore of his skin are countless worlds, so this lordship is small. To tell it is to make it less. Yet those who know his greatness still delight in this play, the fruit of knowing. Great sages say so. Even Śeṣa and Sarasvatī cannot tell the wealth of Rāma's kingdom. All are generous and do good to others, serve brahmins; all women keep a single husband's vow in mind, word and deed. The dohā says the rod is only used by ascetics, and difference is only in the dance; conquering the mind is heard of only in Rāma's rule.

The earth, girdled by seven seas, has one king: Raghupati of Kosala. Countless worlds lie in every pore of his skin, so this lordship is a small thing to him.

To think of his greatness and then speak of this is to make him smaller. Yet those, king of birds, who have known that greatness still find joy in this story.
Verse 3

This play is the fruit of knowing him, say the great sages who rule their senses. The wealth of Rāma's kingdom cannot be told even by Śeṣa or Sarasvatī.
Verse 4

All were generous, all did good to others, all were servants at the feet of brahmins. Every man kept to one wife, and every woman was true to her husband in mind, word and deed.

The rod was for ascetics only; difference was only in the dancers' troupe; and 'conquer the mind' was something one only heard, in the kingdom of Rāmacandra.
Explanation
Rod, difference and conquest are words with another sense: a stick carried by ascetics, a distinction of notes in dance, and a victory of the mind. The verse says that those were the only places in Rāma's kingdom where punishment, discord or conquest were known.
