Hanumān says that anyone who knows such a master and still forgets him is bound to be unhappy. As he speaks of Rāma's virtues, he finds a rest beyond words. Vibhīṣaṇa then tells him how Sītā is kept. Hanumān asks leave to see Mother Jānakī. Vibhīṣaṇa tells him the way, and Hanumān takes the same tiny form and goes to the Aśoka grove where Sītā is. He sees her from afar and bows in his mind. Night passes as he sits there. She is thin, her hair is in one braid, and she is repeating Rāma's virtues in her heart. Her eyes are fixed on her own feet, and her mind lost in Rāma's feet. Seeing her so sad, the son of the Wind is deeply grieved.हनुमान कहते हैं कि ऐसे स्वामी को जानकर भी जो उसे भूल जाते हैं, वे दुखी क्यों न हों? इस तरह राम के गुण कहते हुए उन्हें अनिर्वचनीय विश्राम मिला। फिर विभीषण ने सारी कथा बताई कि जनकसुता वहाँ किस प्रकार रहती हैं। हनुमान ने कहा, भाई, मैं माता जानकी को देखना चाहता हूँ। विभीषण ने सब युक्ति बताई और हनुमान उनसे विदा लेकर चले। वही छोटा रूप धरकर वे उस अशोक वन में पहुँचे जहाँ सीता थीं। दूर से देखकर उन्होंने मन में प्रणाम किया। बैठे-बैठे रात का एक पहर बीत गया। सीता का शरीर दुबला था, सिर पर एक वेणी की जटा थी और वे हृदय में रघुपति के गुणों की माला जप रही थीं। उनकी आँखें अपने ही चरणों पर टिकी थीं और मन राम के चरणकमलों में लीन था। उन्हें इस हाल में देखकर पवनपुत्र बहुत दुखी हुए।

'ऐसे स्वामी को जानते हुए भी भूल जाने वाले दुखी क्यों न हों?' इस तरह राम के गुण कहते-कहते हनुमान को अनिर्वचनीय विश्राम मिला।
'Knowing such a master and still forgetting him, how can they not be unhappy?' So speaking of Rāma's virtues, he found a rest too deep for words.

फिर विभीषण ने सारी कथा सुनाई कि जनक की पुत्री वहाँ किस तरह रह रही थीं। तब हनुमान ने कहा, 'सुनो भाई, मैं माता जानकी को देखना चाहता हूँ।'
Then Vibhīṣaṇa told him the whole story, how Janaka's daughter was kept there. Hanumān said, 'Listen, brother, I wish to see Mother Jānakī.'

उन्हें देखकर हनुमान ने मन ही मन प्रणाम किया। बैठे-बैठे रात का एक पहर बीत गया। सीता का शरीर दुबला था, सिर पर बालों की एक वेणी थी, और वे हृदय में रघुपति के गुणों की माला जप रही थीं।
He saw her and bowed in his mind. As he sat there, a watch of the night passed. Her body was thin, her hair in one braid, and in her heart she was telling over the strings of Rāma's virtues.

उनकी आँखें अपने ही चरणों पर टिकी थीं और मन राम के चरणकमलों में लीन था। जानकी को इस दीन दशा में देखकर पवनपुत्र बहुत दुखी हुए।
Her eyes were fixed on her own feet, and her mind was lost in Rāma's lotus feet. Seeing Jānakī in such sorrow, the son of the Wind was very grieved.
