Again and again the Lord tries to raise him, but Hanumān, lost in love, does not wish to rise. Remembering the Lord's hand on the monkey's head, Śiva, lord of Gaurī, is lost in that state. Steadying his mind, Śaṅkara goes on with the lovely tale. The Lord lifts the monkey, holds him to his heart, takes his hand and seats him near. He asks how he burnt Laṅkā, ruled by Rāvaṇa and a fortress hard to take. Knowing the Lord pleased, Hanumān speaks free of pride: it is a great thing for a monkey to leap from branch to branch. That he crossed the sea, burnt the golden city, killed the demons and wrecked the garden, all this is the Lord's power and not his own. For one on whom the Lord is kind, nothing is out of reach; by his power even cotton can burn the undersea fire.प्रभु बार-बार उठाना चाहते हैं, पर प्रेम में मग्न हनुमान को उठना अच्छा नहीं लगता। हनुमान के सिर पर प्रभु का कर-कमल याद करके गौरीपति शिव उसी दशा में मग्न हो गए। फिर मन को सावधान करके शंकर बहुत सुन्दर कथा कहने लगे। प्रभु ने हनुमान को उठाकर हृदय से लगाया और हाथ पकड़कर अपने बहुत निकट बैठाया। उन्होंने पूछा, कपि, बताओ रावण से पालित लंका जैसे अत्यन्त विकट किले को तुमने कैसे जलाया? प्रभु को प्रसन्न जानकर हनुमान अभिमान रहित वचन बोले: बन्दर की बड़ी मनुष्यता यही है कि वह एक डाल से दूसरी डाल पर चला जाए। मैंने जो समुद्र लाँघा, सोने का नगर जलाया, राक्षसों को मारा और वन उजाड़ा, वह सब आपके प्रताप से हुआ है, मेरी कोई प्रभुता नहीं। जिस पर आप अनुकूल हों, उसके लिए कुछ भी दुर्गम नहीं है; आपके प्रभाव से रुई भी बड़वानल को जला सकती है।
