Rāvaṇa asks who the monkey is, on whose strength he laid the forest waste. He asks if he has not heard of him, and why he killed the demons, and says he has no fear for his life. Hanumān answers: the power by which Māyā has made the whole universe, by which Brahmā, Hari and Īśa create, protect and destroy, by which Śeṣa holds the whole world on his head; the one who takes many forms to protect the gods and teaches fools like Rāvaṇa; who broke the hard bow of Śiva and crushed the pride of the kings; who killed Khara, Dūṣaṇa, Triśirā and Vālī, all of unequalled strength.
