Keeping Rāma's lotus feet in his heart, the son of the Wind sets out, saying how strong he is. There a spy tells Rāvaṇa the secret, and Rāvaṇa goes to the house of Kālanemi and tells him. Kālanemi shakes his head again and again. Who can stop the path of one who burned the city as Rāvaṇa watched? He advises Rāvaṇa to worship Raghupati for his own good and give up empty talk. Rāma's body is lovely, dark as a blue lotus, a delight to the eyes: keep him in the heart. Give up 'I' and 'mine' and folly, and wake from the sleep of the night of great delusion. Can one who is food for the snake of Time win a war even in a dream? Hearing this, Rāvaṇa is very angry. Kālanemi thinks it is better to die at the hands of Rāma's messenger than at the hands of this wicked man.

Hearing this the ten-necked one was very angry. In his mind Kālanemi thought, 'Better to die at the hands of Rāma's messenger than at the hands of this wicked man, absorbed in his load of sin.'
