Lakṣmaṇa comes into the field, red-eyed, broad-chested, his body like the snow mountain. Rāvaṇa sends out warriors with all kinds of weapons, and the monkeys run to meet them with hills, nails and trees, crying victory to Rāma. Pair meets pair, and both sides have a great wish to win. They bite and strike with fists, kicks and teeth, and the victorious monkeys strike and then threaten. The cries of kill, seize, break the head and tear off the arm fill the nine regions, and headless trunks run about. The hosts of gods in the sky watch, sometimes in wonder and sometimes in joy.
