Rising into the sky, Meghanāda rains down embers, while streams of water burst out of the earth. Many piśācas dance and cry, kill and cut. He rains filth, pus, blood, hair, bones, and sometimes stones. He rains dust and makes a darkness in which no one sees his own outstretched hand. The monkeys are distressed by the illusion, thinking that the end has come for all. Rāma smiles at the sight, knowing the monkeys are afraid. With one arrow he cuts the whole illusion, as the sun clears a mass of darkness. He looks kindly on the monkeys and bears, and they grow strong, so that they cannot be stopped in the field. Taking Rāma's leave, Lakṣmaṇa goes out angry, bow and arrow in his hand, with Aṅgada and other monkeys.
