Meghanāda calls out: where are the two brothers, the lord of Kosala's famous archers? Where are Nala, Nīla, Dvivida, Sugrīva, Aṅgada and Hanumān, the limits of strength? And where is Vibhīṣaṇa, the traitor to his brother? Today he will kill them all by force. He sets hard arrows to the string and draws them to his ear in great anger. He begins to loose a mass of arrows like many winged serpents flying. Monkeys fall everywhere, and none can face him. Monkeys and bears flee in all directions and forget all wish to fight. There is no monkey or bear in the field that he does not leave with only a remnant of life. He shoots each of them with ten arrows, and the monkey heroes fall to the ground, and the strong, steady Meghanāda roars like a lion.मेघनाद पुकारता है कि कोसलराज के दोनों भाई कहाँ हैं, जो सब लोकों में प्रसिद्ध धनुर्धर हैं? नल, नील, द्विविद, सुग्रीव, अंगद और बल की सीमा हनुमान कहाँ हैं? भाई से द्रोह करने वाला विभीषण कहाँ है? आज मैं हठपूर्वक सबको मारूँगा। यह कहकर उसने कठोर बाण साधे और अत्यन्त क्रोध से उन्हें कान तक तान लिया। वह बाणों का समूह छोड़ने लगा, मानो बहुत से पंख वाले साँप दौड़ रहे हों। वानर जहाँ-तहाँ गिरते दिखाई देते थे, उस समय कोई उसके सामने नहीं आ सका। वानर और रीछ जहाँ-तहाँ भाग चले और सबको युद्ध की इच्छा भूल गई। रण में ऐसा कोई वानर या भालू नहीं दिखा जिसके प्राण उसने शेष न छोड़े हों। उसने सब पर दस-दस बाण मारे, वानर वीर धरती पर गिर पड़े, और बलवान, धैर्यवान मेघनाद सिंहनाद करके गरजा।
