Rāvaṇa calls Aṅgada a monkey's cub and tells him to watch his words, for he is a fool who does not know him as the enemy of the gods. He asks his name and by what bond a friendship is claimed. Aṅgada says he is Vālī's son; had Rāvaṇa ever met Vālī? Rāvaṇa is embarrassed and remembers Vālī, then says Aṅgada is born to destroy his family like a fire in a bamboo grove, and that he might as well not have been born, calling himself an ascetic's messenger. He asks after Vālī's welfare. Aṅgada laughs: in ten days he will go to Vālī and ask himself, embracing his friend. Vālī will tell him how things go for those who oppose Rāma. Aṅgada says only one who has no Raghubīra in his heart is divided in mind. In the dohā he says that if he is the destroyer of his family, Rāvaṇa is the protector of his, for even a blind and deaf man would not say so with twenty eyes and ears.रावण अंगद को वानर का बच्चा कहकर चेताता है कि सँभलकर बोल, मूर्ख, तू मुझ देवताओं के शत्रु को नहीं जानता। वह नाम पूछता है और कहता है कि किस नाते से मित्रता मानी जाए। अंगद कहते हैं कि वे बालि के पुत्र हैं; क्या रावण कभी बालि से मिला था? सुनकर रावण सकुचा जाता है और याद करता है कि बालि वानर था। फिर वह कहता है कि अंगद बाँस के वन में आग की तरह अपने कुल का नाश करने को जन्मा है, उसका गर्भ में ही नष्ट हो जाना अच्छा था, जो अपने मुँह से तपस्वी का दूत कहलाता है। वह बालि की कुशल पूछता है। अंगद हँसकर कहते हैं कि दस दिन बाद बालि के पास जाकर मित्र को हृदय से लगाकर कुशल पूछ लेना; राम से बैर की कुशल कैसी होती है, यह वह सब सुना देगा। जिसके हृदय में रघुवीर नहीं हैं, उसी के मन में भेद होता है। दोहे में अंगद कहते हैं कि मैं कुल का नाश करने वाला हूँ और तुम कुल के रक्षक हो, ऐसा तो अन्धा और बहरा भी नहीं कहेगा, जबकि तुम्हारे बीस आँखें और बीस कान हैं।

'तो तू बालि का बेटा है, अपने बाँस के वंश के लिए आग, कुल का नाश करने वाला! तू गर्भ में ही नष्ट क्यों न हो गया, जो अपने ही मुख से तपस्वी का दूत कहलाता है।
'So you are Vālī's boy, born to destroy your family, like a fire in a bamboo grove! You might as well never have been born. You call yourself, in your own mouth, an ascetic's messenger.

'सच है, मैं अपने कुल का नाश करने वाला हूँ और हे दशशीश, तुम अपने कुल के रक्षक हो। बीस आँख-कान होते हुए भी तुम्हें अन्धा-बहरा भी ऐसा नहीं कहेगा।'
'It is true, I am the destroyer of my family, and you, ten-headed one, are the protector of yours. Even a blind and deaf man would not say that, with your twenty eyes and ears.'
