Chapter 114 · The fallen monkeys revived · Verses 1–

Rāma tells Indra that his monkeys and bears killed by the night-rangers lie on the ground; they gave up their lives for his sake, so revive them all. Garuḍa, hear: this saying of the Lord is very deep; sages and the wise know it. The Lord could kill and revive the three worlds, but gave the honour to Indra alone. Raining nectar, Indra revived the monkeys and bears, and they rose glad and came to the Lord. The rain of nectar fell on both sides, but only the bears and monkeys lived, not the night-rangers: their minds had become like Rāma's, and so they were freed from the bonds of rebirth. All the monkeys and bears were partial incarnations of gods, and they lived by Raghupati's wish. Who is so kind to the humble as Rāma? He freed all the night-rangers; Rāvaṇa, wicked, a home of filth, given to desire, got the state that the best of sages cannot get. Raining flowers, all the gods left in beautiful airships, and seeing the right moment wise Śambhu came to the Lord. With greatest love, hands joined, lotus eyes full of water, body bristling, voice choked, the slayer of Tripura made his prayer.

Who is such a friend of the humble as Rāma? He freed all the night-rangers. Rāvaṇa, wicked, a home of filth, given to desire, got the state that the best of sages do not get.
