Indra praises Rāma as the home of beauty, giver of rest to those who take refuge, holder of the lovely quiver, bow and arrows, whose arms have fierce strength. He is the foe of Dūṣaṇa and Khara, crusher of the night-ranger host, and by killing this wicked one all the gods have a protector. He takes away the earth's burden and his greatness is boundless; he is the enemy of Rāvaṇa and he made the night-rangers helpless. The king of Laṅkā, proud of great strength, had brought gods and gandharvas under his power, and pursued sages, siddhas, men, birds and serpents. Given to harming others, very wicked and sinful, he got the fruit of it. Indra says: 'I was very proud, thinking no one equal to me; now, seeing your lotus feet that remove pride and give sorrow, my pride is gone. Some meditate on Brahman without qualities, unmanifest, as the Vedas sing; but the form of Śrī Rāma, king of Kosala, with qualities, pleases me. Together with Vaidehī and your brother, make your home in my heart; know me as your servant and give me devotion, O abode of Ramā.' I bow to Rāma, who takes away fear and gives happiness to those who come for refuge, the home of joy, of beauty like many Kāmas, the Lord of the Raghus. Delighting the crowds of gods, destroyer of dualities, taking a human body, of unequalled strength, served by Brahmā and Śaṅkara, I bow to Rāma, tender in mercy. 'Now look on me with kindness, merciful one, and give me a command. What shall I do?'
