Viṣṇu jokes that the procession does not suit the groom, so the gods ride apart. Śiva smiles to himself and calls his own attendants through Bhṛṅgī. They come in every odd shape: with no face or many faces, no hands or many arms, many eyes or none, fat, thin, pure and impure, with skulls in hand and the faces of donkeys, dogs, pigs and jackals. Ghosts, spirits and bands of yogis dance and sing and speak in strange ways.

'This procession does not fit the groom, brothers; you will be laughed at when you go to another's city.' Hearing Viṣṇu's words the gods smiled, and each went apart with his own army.

Maheśa smiled to himself, for Hari's mocking words could not pass unnoticed. Hearing his dear one's very pleasing words, Śiva sent Bhṛṅgī and called all his attendants.

Hearing Śiva's command, they all came and bowed their heads at the lotus feet of the Lord. Seeing his own company, with its many vehicles and many dresses, Śiva laughed.

Some were thin and some fat, some pure and some impure, wearing fearsome ornaments, skulls in hand, their bodies smeared with fresh blood. With the faces of donkeys, dogs, pigs and jackals, the attendants wore countless dresses, who can count them? Spirits and ghosts of many kinds and bands of yogis: they cannot be described.
