Chapter 89·Śiva agrees; the sages go to Pārvatī again·Verses 1–दोहा 89

Brahmā asks Śiva to do something so that all may feast their eyes on this festival, and to give Rati a boon after burning Kāma. Lords first punish, then forgive; that is their nature. Pārvatī has done boundless penance: accept her now. Hearing Brahmā's plea and knowing the Lord's word, Śiva says gladly, let it be so. The gods then beat drums, shower flowers and cry victory. Seeing the right time the seven sages come; Brahmā sends them quickly to the mountain's house. First they go to Bhavānī and speak sweet words, wrapped in play: you did not hear us when we spoke of Nārada's advice; now your vow is proved false, Maheśa has burned Kāma.ब्रह्मा कहते हैं कि यह उत्सव आँख भरकर देखा जाए, मदन के मद को मिटाने वाले, ऐसा कुछ कीजिए। कामदेव को जलाकर रति को वर देना, हे कृपासिन्धु, आपने बहुत अच्छा किया। प्रभु लोग पहले दण्ड देते हैं, फिर कृपा करते हैं; हे नाथ, प्रभुओं का यही सहज स्वभाव है। पार्वती ने अपार तप किया है; अब उन्हें अंगीकार कीजिए। ब्रह्मा की विनती सुनकर और प्रभु की वाणी समझकर शिव ने प्रसन्न होकर कहा, ऐसा ही हो। तब देवताओं ने नगाड़े बजाए, फूल बरसाए और जय-जय कहा। उचित अवसर जानकर सप्तर्षि आए और ब्रह्मा ने तुरन्त उन्हें गिरिराज के भवन भेज दिया। वे पहले वहाँ गए जहाँ भवानी थीं और छल से भरे मधुर वचन बोले: तब तुमने नारद के उपदेश पर हमारा कहा नहीं सुना; अब तुम्हारा प्रण झूठा पड़ा, क्योंकि महेश ने कामदेव को जला दिया।

'हे कामदेव के मद को मिटाने वाले, ऐसा कुछ कीजिए कि हम इस उत्सव को आँख भरकर देखें। कामदेव को जलाकर रति को वर दिया, हे कृपा के सागर, यह आपने बहुत अच्छा किया।

Hearing Brahmā's plea, and understanding the Lord's word, Śiva said gladly, 'Let it be so.' Then the gods sounded drums, rained flowers and cried, 'Victory, lord of the gods!'

४4अवसरु जानि सप्तरिषि आए। तुरतहिं बिधि गिरिभवन पठाए ॥प्रथम गए जहँ रही भवानी। बोले मधुर बचन छल सानी ॥

Knowing the right time, the seven sages came, and Brahmā at once sent them to the mountain's house. First they went where Bhavānī was, and spoke sweet words mixed with play.
