मानस अगम
Those who sing this story with care are the clever guards of this lake. Men and women who always hear it with respect are the rightful gods of the Mānasa. The very wicked, the sensual, the herons and crows, never go near this lake, unlucky as they are. Here there are no snails, frogs or weeds; no talk of the senses as rich flavour. So the poor, lustful crows and herons lose heart on the way. Getting to this lake is very hard and cannot be done without Rāma's mercy. Bad company, a wrong road, and terrible things are on the way: their words are tigers, lions and snakes. The many troubles of household tasks are great, hard mountains; the forest of delusion, pride and conceit is wild, and the rivers of false argument are many and fearful. The dohā says that for those who have no food of faith for the road and not the company of saints, who do not love Raghunātha, the Mānasa is very hard to reach.जो इस चरित को सँभालकर गाते हैं, वे इस सरोवर के चतुर रखवाले हैं। जो स्त्री-पुरुष सदा आदर से सुनते हैं, वे देवताओं में श्रेष्ठ इस मानस के अधिकारी हैं। जो अत्यन्त दुष्ट और विषयी बगुले और कौए हैं, वे अभागे इस सरोवर के पास नहीं जाते। यहाँ घोंघे, मेंढक और सेवार जैसे विषयों की अनेक रसों वाली कथा नहीं है। इसीलिए बेचारे कामी कौए और बगुले आते हुए हृदय में हार जाते हैं। इस सरोवर तक आने में बड़ी कठिनाई है, और राम की कृपा बिना कोई आ-जा नहीं सकता। कठिन कुसंग और कुपंथ भयंकर हैं, और उनके वचन बाघ, सिंह और साँप हैं। घर के काम और अनेक जंजाल अत्यन्त दुर्गम बड़े पर्वत हैं; मोह, मद और मान बहुत भयंकर वन हैं, और अनेक प्रकार के कुतर्क भयंकर नदियाँ। दोहे में कहा गया है कि जिनके पास श्रद्धा रूपी पाथेय नहीं और जिनका संतों का साथ नहीं, जिन्हें रघुनाथ प्रिय नहीं, उनके लिए मानस अत्यन्त अगम है।

For that reason the poor lustful crows and herons lose heart as they come. Getting to this lake is very hard, and no one can come here without Rāma's mercy.
