With great love in his heart the king placed his sons and all his wealth before the guru and begged. The chief of sages took his fee and gave many blessings. Keeping Rāma with Sītā in his heart, the guru gladly went to his house. The king called all the Brahmins' wives and dressed them in lovely clothes and ornaments. Then he called the married women and gave them gifts as he thought fit. The traditional receivers took their dues, and the jewel of kings gave each as pleased him. He honoured well those he knew as dear guests and worthy of honour. The gods, having seen Raghubīra's wedding, rained flowers, praised the joy, and then, beating their drums, went to their own cities, content, saying Rāma's fame to one another, and love did not fit in their hearts.
