Chapter 292·The messengers tell of the bow·Verses 1–
The messengers say your sons need no question; they are lions among men, lights of the three worlds. Before their fame and prowess the moon seems dim and the sun cool. Of such men, Lord, how would we tell how we knew them? Would one look at the sun with a lamp in the hand? Many kings had gathered for Sītā's choosing, warriors each stronger than the last. No one could move Śambhu's bow, and all the powerful heroes lost. The proud ones in the three worlds all had their strength broken by Śiva's bow. Even one who could lift Meru gave up in his heart and went round the bow, and the one who had lifted Śiva's mountain in sport met disgrace in that assembly. There, you may hear, great king, Rāma of the Raghu line broke the bow without effort, as an elephant breaks a lotus stalk.

The one who could lift Meru and who once lifted Śiva's mountain is Rāvaṇa, though the verse does not name him.
