Chapter 291·The messengers tell of the sons·Verses 1–
Hearing the letter, the two brothers thrilled, and their love overflowed. Seeing Bharata's pure love, the whole court was specially glad. The king seated the messengers close by and spoke sweet, winning words: 'Brothers, are my two boys well? Have you seen them well with your own eyes? Dark and fair, bow and quiver in hand, young, with Kauśika the sage: do you know them? Tell me their nature.' Overcome by love he asked again and again, 'Since the day the sage took them away, only today have I got true news of them. Tell me, how did Videha come to know them?' Hearing these loving words the messengers smiled and said, 'Hear, jewel of kings: no one is as blessed as you, whose sons Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa adorn the world.'
