The sage says his hand will not move though anger burns his chest; the king-slaying axe has gone blunt. Fate has turned against him, his nature has turned; how else could mercy come into his heart? Today pity makes him suffer unbearable pain. Hearing this, Lakṣmaṇa laughed and bowed: the image of mercy is surely favourable, and his words fall like flowers. If his body burns with mercy, then God only knows how it would be kept in anger. He tells Janaka to look at this foolish boy who is set on going to Yama's house, and to put him out of sight at once. Lakṣmaṇa laughed and said to himself, 'Close your eyes and there is nobody anywhere.' Then Paraśurāma, with great anger in his heart, said to Rāma, 'You broke Śambhu's bow, fool, and now you try to teach me!'

If the sage's body burns even with mercy, then in anger, God only knows how the body would be kept. Janaka, see how this foolish boy by his own stubbornness wants to go to Yama's house.
