Lakṣmaṇa says, 'I am your servant, king of sages; give up anger and show mercy. A broken bow does not join by anger. Please sit down, your feet must be tired. If it is very dear to you, find a remedy and call some great craftsman to join it.' Janaka grew afraid as Lakṣmaṇa spoke and said, 'Be quiet; it is not right to say such improper things.' The men and women of the city trembled: the young prince is small but his fault is great. Hearing Lakṣmaṇa's fearless words, Paraśurāma burned with anger and lost strength. He told Rāma, 'I spare your younger brother for your sake. His mind is foul though his body is fair, like a golden pot filled with poison.' Hearing it, Lakṣmaṇa laughed again, Rāma glared at him, and Lakṣmaṇa gave up his rude speech and went shyly to the guru's side.
