Sītā shone among her friends like great beauty among beauties. In her lotus hand was the victory garland that carried the glory of the whole world's victory. Her body was shy and her mind full of joy, and her deep love could not be seen by anyone. Going near, she saw Rāma's beauty and stood as if drawn in a picture. A clever friend told her to put on the lovely garland. She raised it with both hands, but love overpowered her and she could not place it. It looked like two lotuses with stalks offering a garland to the frightened moon. The friends sang as they watched, and Sītā put the garland on Rāma's chest. The gods rained flowers seeing it; the kings shrank like lilies at sunrise.सीता सखियों के बीच ऐसी शोभित थीं जैसे बहुत-सी छवियों के बीच महाछवि। उनके कमल जैसे हाथ में सुंदर जयमाला थी, जिस पर सारे विश्व की विजय की शोभा छाई थी। शरीर में संकोच था, मन में बड़ा उत्साह था, और उनका गूढ़ प्रेम किसी को दिखाई नहीं देता था। पास जाकर उन्होंने राम की छवि देखी और चित्र में खींची हुई-सी रह गईं। चतुर सखियों ने यह देखकर समझाकर कहा कि सुंदर जयमाला पहना दो। यह सुनते ही उन्होंने दोनों हाथों से माला उठाई, पर प्रेम के वश वह पहनाई नहीं जाती थी। वे ऐसी शोभित हो रही थीं जैसे नालसहित दो कमल डरे हुए चंद्रमा को जयमाला दे रहे हों। सखियाँ यह छवि देखकर गाती थीं और सीता ने जयमाला राम के हृदय पर डाल दी। रघुवर के हृदय पर जयमाला देखकर देवता फूल बरसाने लगे और सब राजा सकुचा गए जैसे सूर्य को देखकर कुमुद-समूह।

शरीर में संकोच था पर मन में बड़ा उत्साह था; उनका गूढ़ प्रेम किसी को दिखाई नहीं देता था। पास जाकर उन्होंने राम की छवि देखी और जैसे चित्र में खींची हुई कन्या हों, वैसी ठिठक गईं।

A clever friend saw and told her gently: 'Put on the lovely garland.' Hearing this, she raised the garland with both hands, but overcome by love she could not put it on.
