Chapter 240·The crowd gathers at the arena·Verses 1–दोहा 240
रंगभूमि आए दोउ भाई
The sage says they should go and see Sītā's choosing of a husband, and see to whom the Lord gives the honour. Lakṣmaṇa says only the one on whom the Lord's grace falls is the fitting vessel. The sages are glad to hear these fine words and bless the brothers, taking joy. Then the merciful Rāma, with the company of sages, sets out to see the bow-sacrifice hall. The city's people hear that the two brothers have come to the arena and go, forgetting their household work, children, young people, old people, men and women. Janaka sees the great crowd and calls his trusted servants, telling them to go to the people and give everyone a fitting seat. With gentle, humble words they seat the men and women according to their place.मुनि ने कहा कि चलकर सीता का स्वयंवर देखें, ईश्वर न जाने किसे बड़ाई दे। लक्ष्मण ने कहा कि हे नाथ, वही पात्र है जिस पर आपकी कृपा हो। यह श्रेष्ठ वाणी सुनकर सब मुनि हर्षित हुए और सुख मानकर सबको आशीर्वाद दिया। फिर कृपालु राम मुनिवृंद सहित धनुष-यज्ञ की शाला देखने चले। जब दोनों भाई रंगभूमि में आए तो सब नगरवासियों ने यह समाचार पाया। बालक, जवान, बूढ़े, स्त्री-पुरुष सब घर के काम भूलकर चल पड़े। जनक ने भारी भीड़ देखी तो अपने सब विश्वासी सेवकों को बुलाया और कहा कि तुरंत सब लोगों के पास जाओ और सबको उचित आसन दो। उन्होंने कोमल और विनीत वचन कहकर स्त्री-पुरुषों को बैठाया — उत्तम, मध्यम, नीच और छोटे सबको अपनी-अपनी योग्य जगह पर।
