जाइ देखी आवहु नगरु
Lakṣmaṇa has a strong wish in his heart to go and see Janakapura, but fears the Lord and is shy of the sage, and only smiles to himself. Rāma knows his brother's mind, and his love for devotees rises. Very humble, shy and smiling, he speaks after the guru's leave, saying that Lakṣmaṇa wishes to see the city but is too shy to say so, and that with the sage's command he will show him and bring him straight back. The sage answers lovingly that Rāma, who guards the bridge of righteousness, has kept right conduct and shows love to his servants. He tells the two brothers to go and see the city and make everyone's eyes fruitful.लक्ष्मण के हृदय में विशेष इच्छा थी कि जाकर जनकपुर देख आएँ। पर प्रभु के भय और मुनि के संकोच से वे कुछ नहीं कहते थे, बस मन में मुसकाते थे। राम ने अनुज के मन की गति जान ली और उनके हृदय में भक्त-वत्सलता उमड़ी। अत्यंत विनीत, सकुचाते और मुसकाते हुए उन्होंने गुरु की आज्ञा पाकर कहा कि नाथ, लक्ष्मण नगर देखना चाहते हैं, पर प्रभु के संकोच और डर से कह नहीं पाते; यदि आपकी आज्ञा पाऊँ तो नगर दिखाकर तुरंत ले आऊँ। मुनीश ने प्रेम से कहा कि राम, तुम नीति की रक्षा क्यों न करोगे? तुम धर्म की मर्यादा के पालक हो और प्रेम के वश सेवकों को सुख देने वाले हो। उन्होंने कहा कि सुख के निधान दोनों भाई जाओ, नगर देखकर आओ और अपने सुंदर मुख दिखाकर सबके नेत्र सफल करो।

राम ने अनुज के मन की गति जान ली, और उनके हृदय में भक्त-वत्सलता उमड़ आई। अत्यंत विनीत, सकुचाते और मुसकाते हुए वे गुरु की आज्ञा पाकर बोले।

३3नाथ लखनु पुरु देखन चहहीं। प्रभु सकोच डर प्रगट न कहहीं ॥जौं राउर आयसु मैं पावौं। नगर देखाइ तुरत लै आवौ ॥

'हे नाथ, लक्ष्मण नगर देखना चाहते हैं, पर प्रभु के संकोच और डर से कहते नहीं। यदि मैं आपकी आज्ञा पाऊँ तो नगर दिखाकर तुरंत ले आऊँ।'
'Lord, Lakṣmaṇa wishes to see the city, but out of shyness and fear of you he does not say so. If I may have your command, I will show him the city and bring him straight back.'

४4सुनि मुनीसु कह बचन सप्रीती। कस न राम तुम्ह राखहु नीती ॥धरम सेतु पालक तुम्ह ताता। प्रेम बिबस सेवक सुखदाता ॥

यह सुनकर मुनीश ने प्रेम से कहा, 'हे राम, तुम नीति की रक्षा क्यों न करोगे? हे तात, तुम धर्म की मर्यादा के पालक हो और प्रेम के वश सेवकों को सुख देने वाले हो।
Hearing this, the chief of sages said lovingly, 'Rāma, how could you not keep to right conduct? You are the guardian of the bridge of righteousness, my dear, and in your love you bring joy to your servants.

दोहा २१८दोहा 218जाइ देखी आवहु नगरु सुख निधान दोउ भाइ।करहु सुफल सब के नयन सुंदर बदन देखाइ ॥ २१८ ॥
